The guy asking me abotu eth Varadero vs Vstrom. The answer to your question is simple. Try the m both. Go out of rides and simply try them. The onethat feels better to you is the one you shouild buy.
Also try to remember that neither are really meant for pure off road use without heavy modification. These are touring bikes! Sure mild dirt roads are included in that, but they are not motorcross bikes. If you want to pure motorcross bike, take teh KTM 990 Adventure!
@goldwing1964 It's not much better, actually it's not better: it's heavier and the V-Strom 1000 engine is more sport like. Further than that, not very different.
The 2nd rider makes a big mistake by keeping his feet down along the ground. Not only is he anticipating falling over, but he risks injury to his feet & ankles.
Yeah, you need your feet (at least your right foot) for the rear brake. He got spooked and grabbed the front brake, which sent him down. Remember the back brake, folks!
:) you're obviously a suzuki man. But they are actually very different bikes, while the Varadero is more of a comfortable tourer for long distances and bad shape roads, the V-strom is a lighter, more uncomfortable bike, better on short distances than on long hauls, but that has more offroad capabilities... so they don't really compete. The rider that fell was a rookie, any bike, even a goldwing would be capable of doing that patch of road.
i Like the Vstrom, even considering it to be my first adenturure move from my Sv1000Sz, but your point is valid, the test is only fair if they use THE SAME RIDER, The Honda is lovely bike, Costly if it's dropped though magazine tests point out, which may of made this test bit pricy LOL
I like both bike, I think they are good at what they were meant to do. I'm even considering buying the V-strom some time from now when I can sell my fireblade. I have a doubt though. Which Vstrom do you prefer? The 1000cc or the other? :) Thanks!
Hopefully this still means something... go for the 650... the only advantage of the 1000 is going over 210 kmh and the weight does change. I have a 650 and its an all around. Would never change it for a 1000.
@BearGuardian Nope, the main advantage of the 1000 is better acceleration and more horsepower in low RPM. Main disadvantages is higher weight and fuel consumption.
hahahahaha.. hey,it can heppen to anyone. im laughing because they say the vstrom cant do dirt roads, and the great honda fell down. ,,i have fallen many times on my DL1000
thats not vstrom vs varadero... thumbs down...

Newby Veradero rider! Both are excellent bikes. I'd love a Verodero, but a 650 V-Strom is MUCH less expensive to buy...

this video is crap
You are not comparing bikes, you are comparing a good rider with a bad rider.
My wife has 2005 Vstrom 650 and i have 2003 xl100v Varadero. Having ridden both bikes, I can say they each have their strong and weak points.

the varadero is FAR superior. I have owned both
hussaruk 4 years ago
No fault on the Vara, the driver doesn't have experience... those legs should be on the footpegs and he should be standing.
pdcouto 4 years ago
Standing? Not worth it. He just needed to be able to ride in a straight line. Probably better sitting with some weight on the pegs.
