@thescientist73 What a very kind and humbling comment. David is an incredible talent but moreover he is a great friend to all and I am very proud that I was able to share some of his works with everyone here. Thanks again and Happy Holidays !!!
yeah i have been working on this song also to play for christmas or some even but like sometime my left hand screws up inbetween thats one of my biggest problem and it takes too much thinking lol..
To play it consistently it took me about 6 months. To play it with good dynamics and consistently that is. The thing about learning music is that the notes are not hard to learn. Its finding the meaning, emotion, and the story behind the notes. I still play this song today and to me it sounds better now than it did when I put this video up almost 3 years ago. I am always trying to get better and I know that I made more than a few mistakes on this video. :)
To answer the other part of your question the most challenging part for me was being consistent with the tempo's at the beginning of Desert Rain. The left and the right hand are in a kind of dace here and after I learned all of the chord changes with the left hand well the tempo got better. The tendency here is to either slow way down because you are not sure where the notes are or to speed way up after you figure it out.
You might try it a few different ways. The most important thing to learn when playing someone"s music is to try and make it your own. Get past the notes themselves and start to feel the music. I like to mix it up a bit because anyone can copy a performance. I write a lot of my own music and I always love to hear people play it differently. Music is organic and that is what makes it so fun. Happy playing !!!
it started when i was thinking of a music that would best suite the video being edited... its so hard to know a tune but dont know the music title. then i searched and searched youtube and found your performance!
hope to see you in a suite when u play piano... :D
Great music perfectly performed by cool players makes me fly. I have KR 107 but unfortunately, I'm just starting to learn how to play it. I'm already 38 y.o. Do you think I should stop it and just listen to your music?
no!!!!!!!! I just got a KR 107 as well. Keep playing and practicing and it will come. I can not tell you how many nights I wanted to quit while trying to learn a song. Frustration turns into satisfaction, eventually. Happy playing.
The piano in this is a Roland HP 520. I just upgraded to a Roland KR107 which has near perfect piano sampling capabilities. I also upgraded my web equipment and should be posting more stuff on the web soon.
When I first saw this clip, I decided to purchase a C2 Yamaha, buy a David Lanz's song book and I started to play piano til now, it's almost a year. I did play Return to the Heart, Dream of the forgotten child, and this song.
At age 45, it took me at least 3 months (4 hrs/day) to play 1 song of David Lanz .Every time, I got stuck in notes; I visited your clip, it inspired me.
I am glad that you enjoyed the videos. It is exciting that you are playing often and way to go on the commitment to David's music. I hear you when it comes to practicing songs for a long period of time. I play Heartsounds and parts of Vesuvius nearly every day as part of my warm up and practice routine. I compose alot of my own piano solo music and will be adding more videos soon. Have you posted any of the songs that you have learned?
@c3dmf4s Hi, Just stop by and say hello. I has been 4 years now, I am still playing this song every morning before hitting the freeway I now finished about 15 songs of David Lanz My current one is Valencia, this song really hur hurts my arms :)) Thanks for inspiring me into David Lanz music Regards Qlan
This is one of my favorite pieces and the first I learned by Lanz. You look like you're enjoying yourself, which makes the music flow in a much more natural manner. Pretty much how I always feel when I play this piece. Nicely played.
