I did not know Hollywood made films like this anymore. And ever since SPR, films seem to follow that all too familiar formulaic shallow triumphalism. Thank you for uploading this!!!!! Brilliant film, brilliant war film! Made my day;)
To listen to the English I have difficulties, but I could not see subtitles for the film and understand the logic of the film. Congratulations! This movie shows a battle unknown to most people.
thanks for posting this film. I am a bit of a war movie aficionado but had never heard of it...I agree with some of the comments about the flame thrower, and do believe it was a weapon that required some special training, not something that a grunt like Warren would just be able to pick up and use. The attack on the tanks would have been more realistic if ordered by the always clean Lt.Col Yoakam (must have been in his contract)...nice bit at the end..all in all very enjoyable...thanks again
Hoped you enjoyed it, thanks for watching and do click on the video sidebar if you want to see how the Hurtgen forest battlefield looks like in the present day!
i understand that the end was kinda like the beginning, but i dont get what he meant when the guy asked him what was so funny and he said "you." can someone please tell me?
@newagain13 He knew he was going to die. And the guy carrying him kept saying he was going to take him home. And that everything would be alright. It was one last laugh before he died. And also he thought it was funny because the guy had changed his ways and became a true soldier. The last person he would have thought would be carrying him home...
@RegistrationCop It was ironic, but I highly doubt he was laughing because of changing his ways or becoming a true soldier. He never was what would be thought of as a "true soldier" at any time through this story. He was painfully aware that his situation was dead square in the middle of a death factory and he was doing everything he could to survive. He went from hanging back to pushing for a section 8, then when that fell through took a shot with a mission that had a chance of survival.
@newagain13 because he was what he used to be. Manning said the same thing when he was a private in the beginning when he was carrying a dying man from his platoon "home". He knew he was going to die just like the man he had carried.
@kenken8765 did u see him bleeding theres no way in hell hed make it half a mile to a medic and live long enough to get patched up, he was dead and he knew it
I actually like this movie better than Saving Private Ryan. SVP is brilliant and all that, but still... I don't know. I guess I like the extremely depressing atmosphere in here. And I feel more sorry for Darren and Manning than I did for Miller.
I remember a b/w anti-war film from over 40 years ago at the end of which an American soldier was executed for desertion in WW II, though I can't remember the title. Whilst this was happening Bing was, similarly ironically, also crooning, but the song was "Have yourself a merry little Christmas", not "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas".
An American soldier excecuted in World War Two? That would be Eddie Slovik, if im not wrong - Christmas is often a time for peace & reflection, goodwill towards men, and he was possibly suffering from shellshock aka PSTD from what would scare the bravest men out there... RIP Slovik, a very sad story indeed.. " the war to end all wars"?
@NotesCollector Eddie Slovik was not a guy as how you think, though. Although, casesof execution like the Baxter guy in the movie happens all the time. And who knows if more of that had happened in the war?
@mrstarwarsfan102 "End of story"? Millions died, were crippled, or captured. Did you expect another Hollywood-made epos? Most of the war movies you get to watch today are just what the war movies back then were: propaganda. Watch part V of this movie, 5:00 to 7:40, if you are looking for a "point" to a war movie. Don't look for a "happy" ending or something.
I never herd of this battle before, thanks for the upload... i had a great-uncle in the war, really wish he was still alive today... and again, thanks for the upload
pretty good war film from with unusual anti hero characters. however, I am not a big fan of the music and the gun sound effects are just awful. the m1 garand sounds like an airsoft rifle in this movie.
Only bad part is the part where he jumps out, "Ah, I'm mad!" and threw grenades all over. He may have done it but he probably wouldv'e shown more emotion.
the red blotches on their helmets is the insignia of their division, the 28th infantry... but its in bad condition so its disfigured but it should be the same as their shoulder patch
3 questions, in the end was it really like that, like did it really end like it began or was that just for the movie? question 2 ; where in the hell did that snow come from and soo much of it?? did it take them THAT long to get out of the forest or soemthing? i mean 1 minute he's getting shot no snow on the ground, and next thing u know the ground is covered with snow? and 3 ; wouldnt the big red dot on mannings helmet be an obvious target? idk maybe its not as noticeable as i think
Answer to question two. I don't know about you, but I'm from Sweden and trust me snow can appear that fast (and disappear...). From a cinematic point, though, maybe they are alluding to the battle of the bulge that will follow.
i have a question, if you know please please answer this for me, the big red dot on david's helmet, wouldnt that be like a good target for the germans or something? idk maybe it wasnt as noticeable as i think it is but im just curious
One of the best war movies ever made. I thought it was very clever how the movie went full circle. I did wonder though where all the snow came from. I guess it was to show us how much he was bleeding.
There might be better actors and more money for more realistic tankdummys but the horrors the soldiers had to deal with are shown in a very absorbing way. Thanks for posting.
u surely r. i thought this movie is really great. it explores another aspect of soldiers. not herorism like most of common war movies but the genuine urge of not getting killed. i dont know how to explain this. the end was another form of call of duty.
There's zero character development, and narratively it's a mess. it's a series of moments that don't even coherently string together into a larger picture. And the dialogue is painful. It really is a pity, because there are some genuinely good actors in this, but they're struggling with poorly written material. A lot of comments on here are about how "gritty" it is, by which they seem to mean "bloody". But gritty alone does not make a great film.
This movie was excellent! It had a much more realistic element to it over saving private ryan. This movie is one of my new faves, thank you for posting this!
Saving private Ryan sucked. It was all fiction. This movie however was awsome. It is also cool that they dont really have any famous movie stars which made this movie even better

Only problem I have is the gun fire sounds - sounds like airsofts, and the actors look like they had no weapons training. Otherwise a good film
