I know this sounds stupid, but I have 2 adults right now, who apparently just had 17 babies. And my question to you is, how do I overcome my fear of roaches enough to where I can just handle them like you do. I want to, but am deftly afraid to try it. Any suggestions......?
@jettajason24 try putting gloves... like latex gloves that way you wont actually touch them they will be on yur glove... do some research and just know they dont bite or fly or hurt you in any way. If you can get yourself to just go and do it with the gloves then it wont seem so bad since you know they cant hurt you... then once you are comfortable just pick up a smaller one and BING its not so bad
@Swingarwolf1 I actually did in the time between when I wrote that post to now, learn to hold them without anything. That is a very good idea though Swingarwolf. And you're right, and just as I thought, once I did it, it's not so bad anymore. I actually kind of "enjoy" holding them for whatever reason now, LOL. I guess just because I can. I'm so glad I as able to overcome my fear of roaches...... :)
Canabalism, I never thoguht of that, i read about 50 guides and non ever said anything and i could not figure out why over 6 months I got a whole 10 more roaches. How can O get the protein in their diet up then? i've been using a combo of dog food and cricket diet...
If you have correct ambient and basking temps you should be fine with feeding them to bearded dragons. Impaction is blown completely out of proportion and is normally due to incorrect temps/basking/substrate.
I have never gotten a lizard simply because crickets are a pain in the ass. These seem much more manageable, though! I think I just might see myself with a bearded dragon in a few months ^_^
By accident I grabbed the 2 hour shut off ones and they dont accept returns so now i'm out 35$ -.- My colony is going nice I started off with 45 nymphs now I have over 1000 with about 35 adult females :D by the summer I should be up to a few thousand
Eh, I'm not too sure but if I had to estimate I'd say somewhere around 4-6 months. Too feed that many mouths 25 just won't cut it. It will take forever!! I recommend trying to get a batch of 200+ mixed sized nymphs or adults if you can.
I buy in bulk from a company called Watersorb. Just google the name to find them. But you can also purchase them already hydrated from most pet stores.
could a gecko handle these? or they to hard shelled

nice vid but most of the stuff is totally unnecessary
i keep mine in a 30x20x20cm plastic terrarium with 1cm of really really dry turf and 2 egg cartons
i simply put the plastic terrarium on top of the light box of my pacman frog's terrarium for warmth
no water/water crystals whatsoever, only oats & fresh salad twice a week, and never more than they eat in 2h
works like a charm (as you can see in my vid)

can you feed the just born cockroaches to just born cresteds or are they too big?
donius22 2 years ago
do you mean crested dragons or geckos?
i got a crested gecko who's just a few months old and he's doing fine with the newborn roaches
a freshly hatched crested gecko might be too small tho
a crested dragon should do just fine...

What brand are the heaters you bought? I'm starting a colony and trying to find some decent heat pads online.

Do they breed quicker than crickets?
And are they good for chameleons? I'm getting a bearded and my dad is getting a chameleon, and to say money I want to breed.

do you need heat to breed or will it just take a little longer
geckokid94 2 years ago
As long as the temps in your house stay relatively warm you will be fine but heat helps to speed the process up.
jerseytimebomb 2 years ago
how many times do they molt a month/week?
i juss got 200 mixed at an expo a couple hours ago

What setting do you set your heatpads at, and do you put them under the whole enclosure?
Im starting to breed them for my beardie,
and just wondering becuase yours look pretty happy
m1or2t3e4 2 years ago
Just under 1 side of the enclosure. Try to create a heat gradient as you would for a reptile.

how much was the breeding container

You can just goto walmart and buy a 15 court ben. Shouldn't cost more than 5 bucks.
