@AllStarBugler Thats for sure hes' got the groove always locked down with super human snare rifts' seen him many time live total inspiration for drummers
My first "jazz" recording - Crosswinds. Bought on the recommendation of a review in "Stereo Review" magazine. Still amazing after all these years, and I'm still playing jazz. Still inspired by Brecker, Cobham, McLaughlin, Miles, Jaco, Evans, Shorter, Chick, Tony, Trane, La Faro, Bird, Duke, Mingus, Elvin, Oscar, PC, Wes...
Mike Brecker already developed a unique own sound in his teens. Check the album score by his brothers and the early Dreams albums. Regards, Louis Gerrits
@ewi4000 I love those Dreams albums. You could hear him getting it together on those, but in this clip, you can definitely hear that his mature style is already in place.
My god i didnt know that michael had that much identity that early on. I always thought he acquired that uniqueness in the 80's, but hell no, there he is ripping it up in the early 70's
@usetheforce207...I know man, it's insane. He was 25 here. My dad told me something when I was about this age and wanting to be a legendary sax player like Brecker and all my other musical heroes. I hated to hear it at the time but this video is proof that he was right, in my opinion. He said 'If you were one of the greats, it would already be happening." And he was right. The greats come out of the gate with something unique and their own that they continue to develop throughout their career.
@usetheforce Stanley Turrentine didn't open up till he was in his 30s. Its not that the greats come out with something special... its that if you were gonna work hard enough be become one of the greats, you probably would have done it by your 20s.

@usetheforce207 ... You should hear him with the Hal Galper Band and with Dreams (the tune New York City kills). He had it way back then.

Actually this song is called Pleasant Pheasant if I am not mistaken. It is from the Crosswinds album. Great song!!
It would be great to have this entire concert on a DVD. Great band. I think I saw this band play at least 4 or 5 times back in that time frame.
