  • Wow, what a great choir!! Beautiful performance, best version on youtube.

  • HE is JESUS CHRIST!!!!

  • what is that little soft endpeice there at 3.38. Ive never heard it before and why do a lot of versions leave it out?

  • @Malloyism It is called Pifa (a pastoral symphony) and in fact is not an endpiece but rather an introduction to the next part.

  • @Garichek Thanks so much for that, It seems to all fit now. Im learning about this wonderful style of music more and more.

  • @siobonic: in the case of this song, it's the long, slurred fast notes sung to the word "born". Best wishes to you!

  • what a great performance

  • Superb! Spectacular execution at this tempo: seemingly effortless melisma!

  • @tchatchka what do you mean 'melisma'?

  • Isaiah 9:7

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

  • @WorshipInSpirit YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Superb music and performance.

  • big diction

  • wow. very good. and I have sung and played this countless times.

  • @chazzaktaz Great performance. Is it something wrong in 1:50, though? At the part where they sing "...the Prince...", I think the pitch is wrong, I m not sure though, what do you think, as a more experienced member of choir? thanks

  • @avdenego It a D major Chord but only the sopranos have the root

  • EXCELLENT ! :D !

  • This is the best I have heard...Handel is rejoicing before the Lord!!!!

  • Is this performance in a different key than the original??

  • @MidniteHasStruck nevermind that comment, I assume they are baroque instruments..?? maybe.. and tuned differently? I don't know.

  • @MidniteHasStruck Yes, they use baroque instruments. I'd guess the pitch is A=415Hz, which is about a semitone below modern pitch.

  • @michaeldotsmith Thank you for that clarification =D

  • Did they have copyrights in Handel's day? Awesome performance.

  • Wow... Goosebumps! Awesome performance!

  • Wonderful, beautiful song during this season.

  • Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've sung under Anthony Walker before. He's a fantastic choir conductor. Brings the best out of everyone

  • Wonderful rendition of this incredible work of Handel's musical creation of Isaiah. Praise Jesus Christ, the Son Who was given to us. Wonderful Counselor. The Everlasting Father! Hallelujah!

  • This is excellent!

  • i'm gonna sing that at my Christmas Concert! For Unto Us! is co fast! and so complicadet!!! i'm very nervous!

  • There are no words to describe what this makes me feel inside my heart.

How in the world can two people not like this amazing interpretation of this God glorifying, wonderful, soul-lifting and precious music?!!!

  • Świetne wykonanie, chyba jedno z najlepszych jakie słyszałem,

no i to tempo żwawe, wszystko czysto wyśpiewane :)

  • Ich liebe diese Musik. Wunderbar gemacht........

  • where are the trumpets and the timpani. This song sounds so majestic when they are included.

  • @flightcruiser1 I like it like this, it's so much more intimate.

  • The ULTIMATE Christmas carol

  • Maravilloso!

  • HE LOOKS SO HAPPY =D

  • HELP ME PLS. Is there any instrumental music for this? Pleeeaaasseee...Badly needed for my choir...

  • @merson21concha I know there is a piano accompaniment.

  • @jackg453 can you pls send me the url...thanx

  • the melismas are done very well in this version

  • right finally sung at a proper tempo. Finally I've found the interpretation that I like. Gratulation!

  • fantastic! wonderful performance

  • I hear this with tear in my eyes. I remember a concert of a choir where i was a member. In all the rehearsals we had a tempo of 80-90, but in the live-concert the conductor took near 120. The most members of the choir are shocked, i felt a mixture of shame and fear. But we managed it! Since this experience i can't listen this part of Messiah without tears - tears of happiness.

  • i like the conductor he looks happy not serious

  • Perfect in every way!

  • A small taste of Heaven!!!

  • a quien no le gusto es muy dificil de crer es perfecto es lo mejor q ha hecho el hombre

  • Listening in June- gives me goose bumps. Beautiful and beautifully done!

  • What is its metronome please?

  • @merson21concha around crotchet = 120

  • @googoo0202 Thanx...

  • I haven't ever heard it performed at such a fast tempo but it works, I think.

  • what a joyous interpretation! i like it, sometimes the tone is too sombre and serious, not uplifting

  • maravilhosos músicos!!!! muito bom! adoro cantar essa peça...

  • I'm singing Händel's piece in my school choir, and it's beautiful !

  • that's not Colin Davis - who is it? jnf1@live.com

  • @johnhagermusic it's antony walker with cantillation - based in sydney, aus :)

  • I love this song...

  • Dear Carosaxone Thanks for reminding me who is my favourite composer. Have you tried Andrew Manze, Academy of Ancient Music, the hornpipe from the Bb major concerto grosso? Few things more glorious in music exist. :-)

  • You can buy the whole DVD from the ABC shop. I listened to the whole thing last night. It is all radiant, awesome, the best.

  • i have not heard this type of tempo for this song before. absolutely a beaute!

  • This is how it should be done...love it.

  • I just love Handel's work....

  • I did not know that there's a faster tempo of this...I like the way the conductor conducts...

  • This is how it should be done! I LOVE IT!

  • PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

  • flawless

  • toooooo fast

  • I like this! The greatest news mankind has ever received. The temp is fast, joyful, your heart thrills. Even the conductor has a bright joyful expression. He's really getting into it.

  • Thanks for uploading this, have heard about 50+ versions and this is by far my favourite, if you hadn't uploaded it I never would have purchased it. I managed to track it down on iTunes, the recording is on an album called 'Hallelujah: A Celebration of Baroque Choruses' for anyone who is interested.

  • So.... perfect....

  • I wouldn't say this is the "proper" tempo, but it does add a different dimension to the music. It is very crisp and joyful.

  • wonderful - finally a choir that cares about clear diction.

  • "too fast"? You clearly have no clue. Who are these people? Does it say so anywhere?

  • This is the best performance of this song I've heard...so joyful and inspiring!

  • Beautiful, music and voices bursting with life! What an inspiring conductor...

  • Way too fast

  • @hunt05 Well then go back to listening to your crusty, lifeless, slow-ass Deutsche Grammophone records.

  • Of course you are infringing neighbouring rights. You always are unless you've been explicitly given permission. Check the Wikipedia entry on related rights. If you're worried about it, remove the text, and consult a lawyer. But it's a nice performance.

  • Absolutely gives me goosebumps. Does this group have the hallelujah chorus? Awesome conductor! The best Choir and orchestra I've heard in years!

  • Thank you for putting this up. Awesome conducting and a great performance!

  • Finally--sung at a proper tempo! This is a joyful song, after all, not a dirge.

  • right comment. I agree and I have searched a interpretation with the proper tempo.

  • @jstyles1948

I totally agree! I have looked and listened to several clips of this piece and this is the best! Have Joyous Christmas!

  • look at the conductor! the state he is in) the guy rocks

  • What a fresh air into the Messiah performance tradition. Thanks for the video.

  • OMG !!!!!

    so fucking awesome !!!

  • Lovely. . .and this really puts me in a holiday mood! :-)
