We cover your ass in Kunuri Battle .( 1950-1953 Korea war ) . Usa infantry retreat because of chinese - norhern korea force attack . @CEMOLTU I was just reviewing the stand of the Turkish Brigade in Korea. Great job done by your guys. First SAS also used silent attacks in WWII, and captured many prisoners. Recently in Iraq, the USMC did a bayonet charge, and drove away some Arab terrorists hiding behind civilians. I used to teach bayonet, having been taught it at West Point, and supplemented it, with study of civil war manuals in the library. Modern night vision devices, assault weapons make bayonet charges difficult today.

The British Army trains soldiers to scream like a seriously deranged person in bayonet drill. And we use the bayonet charge more often, even in Iraq and afghanistan. Scares the crap out anybody who faces it.

Wooden stick simulating rifle & bayonet? Protective stuff in front of body? My! How lucky they were. When I was serving my national service (not ROC) 36 years ago, we used real M16 rifles with real bayonet attached to it. No protective clothing either, just normal uniform and combat gear (no body armour then). Only safety precaution was bayonet had scabbard attached and tied to rifle. 1 guy in my platton admitted to hospital for broken jaw due to butt stroke by his counterpart.

because regardless of technology we will always need infantry, and they need to be able to kill the enemy in extreme close quarters. not to mention for less than leathal purposes (eg. capturing a prisoner for intel, lets sees you try that with a rocket!)

Don't discount the effective use of bayonet in modern warfare. The brits did a bayonet charge in Iraq sometime ago in close quarters fighting. They dislodged the terrorists in the action.
