  • Hi, just wanted to say I love watching your videos, very informative. x

  • I like your videos. If people are not willing to put embarrassment aside, then I would never know what NOT to do, or what to expect. I am getting ready to schedule my surgery and I need all the information I can get. I really appreciate your time and your thoughts you have shared. I have learned so much today from watching these videos. I think I will make videos as well. It will be good to see the transformation.

  • Thanks Karen for the information - I will try to remember this once I´ve had the VSG surgery, but just to make sure, this video is landing in my favorites. Your vids are so informative. Sorry you had to learn the "hard way" and hope it never happens to you again. Hugs, Jill

  • I know what you have gone through. I have the same reaction whenever I eat anything with high fat. Its a awful feeling and you do feel totally drained once its over. It just happened to me while I was driving from florida to R.I. I had to eat some rest stop food and ending up stopping at least 3 times after each rest stop to the bathroom.

  • Oh how awful. At least I was in the privacy of my own home. Guess we learned a big lesson there.

  • I have had sleeve "dumping" syndrome just from taking a few sips of Crystal lite, and then another time from a few sips of Sobe flavored water, while I am still recovering from surgery. Cold clammy pop out sweats, nausea, sick headache, feeling like I needed to puke and poop at the same time, and just overall "I wish I could go unconscious until this is over" feeling. You have my total empathies.

  • Wow. So there really is a VSG "dumping syndrome". I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, but I'm sad to hear others have had to learn lessons this way too.

  • So glad you are feeling better and gotten back to basics! It was great to see your update :)

  • Thanks so much.

  • P.S HAPPY NEW YEAR! :D

  • You look great! So sorry that you had to feel rotten while you had this learning experience...but it looks like you are right, that there is a dumping for sleevers too. Glad you are feeling better!

  • We all have to learn the hard way sometimes.

  • crazy stuff! i guess we all have to learn things the hard way sometimes. the best thing about this is that you paid, got back on track and the scale is moving back down. way to jump back on it, follow the rules and track your nutritional stuff. keep trucking!

  • Isn't that the truth...the hard way. Bariatric surgery is NOT the easy way out! It's only a tool.

  • Karen - I am so sorry you went through this. Unfortunately, the same thing happened to me last week. I did, however, force myself to throw up (as I did when pregnant - just to get it over with!) Not a good feeling! It was mostly from being TOO full and then eating a little more! And then... drinking Coke on top of it. YUCK!

Thanks for reinforcing again just how bad snacking is! Keep preaching that, sister!

You are doing so well... even with bumps, vgs is still the best thing we've ever done!

  • No kidding?!! You did the same thing...wow! I know what you mean about eating too much and then a little more. What is with us that we do that? Why do we feel the need to eat more. I really miss eating a huge plate of food.

Coke...oh man, that had to take you over the edge. I have tried my beloved Rootbeer but it tastes nasty to me now. Thank goodness. Yes, the VSG still is the best thing we have done for ourselves.

  • your video made me hungry :D of course, grease makes me sick so that puts paid to that

i heard someone else say they dumped with vsg... wish i could remember who, but found that very interesting

    happy new year!

  • I guess the tools are doing what they are supposed to do if we get sick with the evil foods. :) It's a good thing! Happy New Year to You too Janie.

  • Hi Karen, Happy New year... I have not been on for quite a while. You are looking fab. I can totally relate to your account of your symptoms. I refer to it as a type of dumping too. It can be horrendous & go on for a couple of days sometimes. I am seriously having a rethink about the "old habits" sneaking back in. I am still loosing, all be it slowly, but the digestive difficulties is motivation enough to stay on the straight & narrow. Kind Regard Robyn

  • I've been stuck at the same weight for a over a month and up and down the same 2-3 pounds. Those "old Habits" are always lerking in the background. We still have to do the right things.

  • Wow Karen that sounds like it was awful...I am so sorry you had to go through that! I think you did great to maintain over the holidays. That is awsome...way to go!

  • Thanks...I just wanted to warn people that our bodies will retaliate. Thanks for your comments.

  • I never had all the other symptoms. I did throw up every few days simply from ingesting to much food the first few months. It sounds gross but is wasn't too bad...it was quick and harmless...but I worried about stretchuing my stomach. I don't think it caused a porblem but I did have about 6 months of on and off throwing up after meals before it settled down and I felt nowrmal again.

  • Thanks for the warning that dumping can happen to sleevers too

  • Just follow the rules and you can't go wrong.

  • my surgeon told me that if i eat to much i will get sick and it will eventually stretch my pouch. the pains in the intestine also sounds like you didnt chew up your food enough and it just got stuck :(

    hope this helps.

  • I do have a fear of stretching my stomach also. I think you are right about chewing. I need to make that a goal for this year to chew, chew, chew. Thanks

  • Thanks for being Honest and this awesome story, I dumped in the begining and Dont want to ever do it again, Keep up the good wrk,

  • I hear ya. I don't ever want that to happen again either.

  • well I know to well what you went through so sorry sweetie but I have had to learn the hard way many many times thinking its ok to eat it just a small bite won't hurt ...and its funny sometimes nothing wont get sick and other times oh my goodness....it so crazy!!..thanks for sharing love rosemary

  • I know what you mean. All my RNY friends talk about how one day they can eat something with no problema and then the next time they so sick. Amazing how your body reacts isn't it. It sure knows how to tell us we are bad.

  • The Pain you Described sounds like a Gallbladder attack?

    FYI:

Do you still have a Gallbladder, when that happens I Get in a Scolding HOT Bath and thats the only thing that helps. If it is a Attack you will Vomit!

  • I do have a gall bladder but I don't think that was what it was. I watched an old boyfriend go through a couple of attacks and through surgery and it wasn't like that. I could actually feel the pain move from side to side and lower and lower along with the gurgle. It think it was my intestines just getting the "waste" out of which I had a lot.

  • oh, karen.... on of my favorite things in life is baileys and buttershots... oh how i miss it. but there is so much sugar in that drink, that i have written it off for life :(. sorry about all your pain. i am glad that you are feeling better.

  • I'm sure the sugar in the 'buttery nipples" was a terrible thing to have. I have never been a sugar person...used artificial sweeteners all my life. So I gave my body a double whammy with all that sugar.

  • Sounds awful! Kinda how I felt until I started taking prilosec

  • It's stories like this that make me happy to have the LapBand..lol Thank goodness for the new year and fresh starts. Best of luck!

  • you poor thing no more pizza for you hehehehe
