@RollaArtis "Record" has more than one reason. This device was intended to record the waveform on paper for scientific study. This modern realization, however is wrong. It is being played back at twice the correct speed and it is in fact the voice of De Martinville himself. If you check out the website firstsounds.o r g everything will be explained. Also it is not the first waveform recorded as examples survive from 1857. This uploader has not done his research.
