Thanks DC, for uploading this. I downloaded this game last night and had a blast. I'm looking forward to subsequent playthroughs to get different endings.
You know when you load up the game and it shows Iji standing over a dead tasen? Well I was like "woah!" when I started a pacifist run and it changed to Iji, throwing down her weapon.
I've beaten the game twice myself. Once while killing only enough to level up to max each stage, and once in total pacifist. Always meant to do a RAMPAGE! and kill everything game.
I really love how you play relatively obscure indie titles. In fact, you're the main reason that I really began to play these kinds of games. You're the reason why I've become so interested in the indie game community. Nowadays Iji and Cave Story are two of my favorite games (along with piles of other indie titles I stumbled upon in the process).
Thanks for rescuing me! I'mma go play some Chalk...and maybe some Sonny.
If you ever see this and have the time, a question:
To what degree does dialogue change due to actions? A brief example:
Most games give you A and B(Good, Evil) in 'alignment checks'(Such as how many X you've killed). Possibly A, B, or C(Good, Evil, Neutral).
How far does this go here? How many times would someone have to go through to say they've seen it all in terms of text variations, or at least personality variations for Iji?
Evildeceasedcrab got the song in my head so every time you say I'm deceasedCrab! i start humming the Evil leauge of Evil application song in my head :(
I'm doing a pacifist run now, and I gotta say, you really have to get creative with finding ways to indirectly kill enemies. It's also really hard to keep your level on par.
thank you DC the moment I heard the music of this game I went and downloaded / beat it took me 3 hours took alot of damage but got past it without killing anyone ^_^
DC you are the man! I purchased a 360 to get in on the latest games I had been missing out on (I've been gaming since Sega Master System) and that damned tripe killed the (touted) online experience for me. I have since reverted to golden oldies i.e. games that don't suck. Keep it up, big guy. I await your Fallout 3 LP good sir
Have you extracted the game, and are you playing it from the local harddrive? Iji REALLY doesn't like running from the zipped archive or remote media.
It's kinda like Deus Ex, in that you play a super-awesome nanomachine-person-guy and you don't have to kill anyone. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the voice acting of Deus Ex. What a shame.
I played through this as soon as you told me to. I played as a kill-crazy sociopath, and I kinda hope you don't do the same thing. If you do, I don't mind, because giant igniting lasers are awesome.
Don't you just hate it when you spend four days convincing your parents to let you go to this concert and then when the time finally comes it rains lasers? I do.
People that are asking you to do a pacifist run clearly didn't watch the video, or don't care. You have already kicked a guy to death, unless kicks don't count or something.
You sir are a genius and deserve a medal for showing us this jewel! It has been a long while since I played a game as complex and well thought out as Iji.
I remember requesting this about four months ago, as I'm sure plenty of other people did. I won't say thank you for listening to my suggestion, but I am thankful that your taste in games is evidently quite similar to mine! I can't get enough of this game. 2008 GotY. Not just Indie either.
Looking forward to watching your playthrough of the game. I love how many ways there is to play this. Good choice on showing the text too.
just out of curiosity whats you favorite nano overdose effect? I hav to say xplosiv shotgun, mix that with the buster gun an you get rapid fire explosions
DeceasedCrab, I think you should put out more, unique titles that haven't been shown to the internet yet. Why spend your time playing that which has been played?
Imbecile. Have you been reading the comments? Look at all these people who haven't heard of this game before this video! Iji is a game more people need to hear about and play!
If the next comment from you isn't "I apologize for being so thoroughly wrong", I don't want to hear it.
I would have to agree with you. Deceased Crab does what he wants when he wants it and that is why he is good. Nobody better question him. we mustbe thankful he is even willing to share his game playing experiences with us. Without Deceased Crab's way of doing things this would suck and all LP'dom would explode.
I wouldn't agree with this statement. LPs would go on without me, and while I'm glad you're enjoying what I do, it's not the end-all be-all way of doing things.
It's just that when I do things, I do them my way. I do take suggestions, but ultimately, I decide what I LP. There's a long list of games I won't LP (too popular or terrible), and this game isn't on it. For all its popularity, Iji is a bit of a sleeper hit. It still needs more attention.
Went ahead & played it before I watched. I really like it, the music, the gameplay, the crazy explosions. I was thinking there was some sort of no-kill option when I read a message about my slaughterings & pillagings. I'm such a monster.
Well, THIS is going to be an interesting one. Then again...which one of your LP -isn't-?
I might actually do something different and play the game for myself...considering there are multiple branching paths and different endings for this. I usually don't play the games you LP. It's -almost- like watching a movie version of a book you didn't read. Kinda makes you not wanna read the book.
But, then again, I guess some things are best experienced for yourself by yourself, if that makes any sense!
Heh, I followed your advice and played the game before watching. I'm at the start of sector 7 now, and I have all but the really ridiculously strong weapons, and I have most of the super weapons. Wow, this game is amazingly fun. It gets really hard though. Is six health too little, do you think?
Sector 7 was too hard with just six health, at least for me. I died several times but eventually got through to one of those health increase things and put it up twice. The last boss was fun, though it lagged like heck.
Also, the MPFP Devastator is way overpowered. So is the Velocitor. But, then, the Velocitor should be, as it is a super weapon made from the two best normal guns. The Devastator is just way too strong; my attack stat is pretty low, but Anhilators are dying in 4-5 hits.
Iji! Oh how I love this game DeceasedCrab! I can't explain to you how jubilant I am for seeing you Let's Playing this game! I can't wait to see what you do through your playthrough of the game! But I can say that it is a good thing to see more people like yourself showing the world this amazing game!
Time. Also I managed to get it working windowed. Also, I needed to shut you guys asking me to LP this game over and over and over up. A distraction tactic. It's a good game and I hope it will make for a good LP.
...Well, that great - it appears I can't play this game. Within the first two sets of breakable crates, the game crashes so bad it forces the PC to restart, and reading about this error on the website, it looks like it's unfixable...
downloaded this game after watching the video, just beat it a few minutes ago, fantastic game, really look forward to seeing how you play it (i only got 33 kills so it was a pacifist run)
So, I assume you're going to play the peaceful route and hardly kill anyone? I did that, t'was fun. I need to play through again to get the posters and save you know who, though.
I tried Iji when I first heard about it, I did my time. But man, I could not stand how stiff the controls are. I can understand WHY in a fictional sense, considering that Iji is not a trained soldier, and the rest of the game from what I saw was definitely polished, but I just couldn't get wrapped around controlling someone who moved like that. Ah, well. The story is still interesting, and I want to see how it ultimately unfolds.
I actually got up to sector 3 before I realized that there might really be something to doing a pacifist run. I'm almost done with it too. I'm looking forward to seeing how the game plays out differently.
It occurs to me that my original comment was vaguely worded. Clarification: Played up to sector 3 normally, started a pacifist run, almost done with pacifist run, looking forward to seeing the at this point obviously very different non-pacifist plotline. Also I'm sorry for continuing to comment to clarify minor details.
I basically played this the same way- all Strength and Cracking, then I went after weapons.
I didn't actually beat it, though... unfortunately all that stuff can be kinda useless against certain obstacles, to keep from spoiling anything. I should probably try de-assigning and trying that part again.
Wonderful! Although I've only heard of and played this game recently, it's struck me as a masterpiece not only because of its gameplay and premise, but also due to its plot twists (depending on how the game is played) and the good level design.
I would agree with DC's statement that the viewer should ideally play the game right now, because the story is quite compelling the first time around.
Good choice! I'll be interested to see how the rest of the game develops for DC.
Oh Iji, I remember this game. Yeah, I agree with you DC. If no one has played this game, you guys really need to get it yourselves. It's a great game.

Ah, well. The story is still interesting, and I want to see how it ultimately unfolds.

So what playthroughs do you plan to achieve? I know I spent a good bit of time myself trying to find all of the hidden material.

Are you kidding? I downloaded this just last week, and have yet to play it.

This game looks awesome, DC. I can already tell this is going to be a good LP.

Are you going for a pacifist run?
CaradosNuax 3 years ago
Do I LOOK like a pacifist?
DeceasedCrab 3 years ago
Hopefully you'll show off every weapon? might want to save prior to a couple of them.

Maybe. Maybe not.

I hate laser rain. It always makes the roof leak and no one enjoys leaking roofs.

Facts: Iji means determination.
Tasen is similar to taisen, which means war.
The more you know.

Damnation DC, I was gonna LP this, and Hero. Why you gotta do me like that?
hiei48 3 years ago
Me LPing it shouldn't stop you from doing it. I'm not going to care. You shouldn't either.

I actually got up to sector 3 before I realized that there might really be something to doing a pacifist run. I'm almost done with it too. I'm looking forward to seeing how the game plays out differently.
gryffinp 3 years ago
Sector 3 actually changes completely in a pacifist run.
DeceasedCrab 3 years ago
I noticed! I'm actually really close to the ending.
But anyway, I do have one request: Please make sure that you die at least once to show off the incredibly awesome death screen.
gryffinp 3 years ago
It occurs to me that my original comment was vaguely worded. Clarification: Played up to sector 3 normally, started a pacifist run, almost done with pacifist run, looking forward to seeing the at this point obviously very different non-pacifist plotline. Also I'm sorry for continuing to comment to clarify minor details.

I basically played this the same way- all Strength and Cracking, then I went after weapons.
I didn't actually beat it, though... unfortunately all that stuff can be kinda useless against certain obstacles, to keep from spoiling anything. I should probably try de-assigning and trying that part again.

I tried to do it with 0 kills a while ago... ended up with a grand total of two, which was really annoying.
brashup2 3 years ago
That's the minimum on version 1.2 and below. 1.3 allows 0.
DeceasedCrab 3 years ago
Unfortunately, it was due to my own error rather than the game's; I do have 1.3.

Looks like rain!
Laser rain.

You better get all the posters.

I refuse. The stuff you have to do to get them all is ridiculous. Also, I don't take orders from you. Also, I do what I want.
DeceasedCrab 3 years ago
I order you to disobey me!
Beat that.

Contradictory statements make me blocky. Choose your words carefully.

This game looks and reads like a webcomic brought to life.

Downloaded it this morning! Yes, this game is awesome. Already at sector 9, but I can't get past the boss's second form.

The visual style reminds me of Another World/Out of this World, the old PC/console game.
Tempted to check this one out too!

I completely agree, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the first cutscene picture. Also an excellent game by the way!

Will you be showing us the no-kill ending? I'm sure this is stupidly obvious, but I have to ask.
WatcherCCG 3 years ago
Heehee, nope! I won't! Eat that!
DeceasedCrab 3 years ago
I don't believe you. It wouldn't be a complete LP if you didn't. :P

Oh this game looks really good. Looking forward to the next update or maybe even playing it.

Oh Iji, I remember this game. Yeah, I agree with you DC. If no one has played this game, you guys really need to get it yourselves. It's a great game.

This game took 6 months to make, apparently.
I think it shows.

I beat this. Fun game, but the final boss has some SERIOUS bullet time. And by bullet time, I mean lag. Esp
