The opening for me felt a little slow (the "il approche, il s'avance" section in french) but like you said maybe it had to do with the language... or maybe my cast just likes the piece so much that we get excited and speed it up :p

This is wonderfully sung, but didn't you guys find the tempo awfully slow? We're doing this opera at my university this year and I must say, we take this particular part at a much quicker tempo.
Anyway. it sounds great and the costumes are hilarious!

Thank you for your comment! Are you referring to the tempo of the opening section or the can can?? We felt the opening section was a good tempo right there. Can can - it is on slow side, but since we were singing in English, we knew we could not compete tempi-wise to the French versions, and took the fastest we could to spit out the diction cleanly.
