A little boy fell in to a gorilla "hole" at the zoo an hi hit his head an something.

A female gorilla took him into her arms an kept the other gorillas away.

She protected him an took care off him.

So, i think it is has alot to do with her motherly instincts. :)

The leapord does not know of agony, for it has no capacity to. Only human beings are capable of such emotions, for better and worse. If you watch documentaries on large cat species, you will often see them bring live prey to their young. Just today, I saw a program showing a mother cheetah bringing a baby gazelle to her cubs for them to kill. It is how all cat species teach their young the skills necessary to eat!

I must revise my opinion after having finally seen the documentary on National Geographic. However, my opinion that it has nothing to do with devine mercy stands. This is a young female leopard, and it is not uncommon for them to be confused and express motherly instinct towards the young of other animals. I saw another documentary showing similar behavior towards a gazelle. It is a well known behavior, and their is nothing really special about it.

How can such an animal become "confused"? You're making no sense. IT cant just become CONFUSED. ITs motherly instinct did however trigger and said to her that that is an animal(the young) unable to take care of itself.

Because the animal was going through a hormonal change into potential motherhood, so it experiences two contradicting instincts, one to kill and feed, and one to care. If you watch an older leapard in the same situation, it would just kill the baby baboon outright.

I've seen a cheetah do the same thing once, and it too was a young female. You will never see a male animal do this, unless it is to capture live prey for the young to practice hunting! I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I must insist that this is a known behaviour amoung female cat species.

I have seen animals from different species tend to show feelings towards each other. But i mean, this is good, because it shows you how merciful the female cat is.
