I had the same thoughts about backwards gliding at idle speed, I have never heard of a single engine piston prop reversing, except on a Lake Amphibian where it makes sense, not on a STOL.
You've been had!! An aircraft backing up under reverse pitch doesn't move at engine idle. You need power to get it to move especially on skis. Odds are it is a trick of the camera and the slope of the ground causing the aircraft to slide downhill. The pilot would have needed to go into reverse pitch and pull a fair bit of power to back up. Nice trick video thou...
@kazakhpilot In case you misunderstand what I am saying kazakhpilot, I'm calling you out!! I am saying right here, right now that this video is a fake. No aircraft is going to back up in reverse thrust at ground idle on skis. Go ahead and prove me wrong. I Googled Zenair 701 reverse prop and the only thing I could find were links to this video that have been posted all over the place. Nice try buddy!!
@brainmaker I presume the prop pitch adjusts enough to permit the reverse thrust. Obvious disadvantage (to me at least!) is accidental potential for reverse thrust whilst flying leading to mishap.
