  • at39 minutes he says nVidia wants their driver to run better on bsd than on linux ??

    thats great news !

to bad i got an ati card, and it took me a week to get opengl working smoothly

  • i like it so far just keep getting disk is full unable to boot sometimes just reloaded the OS and it is loading again given my root 1.9 GB space hoping this helps it is at 30% used any ideas why i get that message sometimes and how to fix it

  • Why is there no Gnome support?

  • @Givarius upcoming version. And you can install anything from the ports of course.

  • FreeBSD is very usable for the desktop. I have just finished playing the DRAGON AGE 2 demo on my Freebsd via wine.

most windows users don't ever install their desktop software

FreeBSD does have a network setup that requires lots of googling and forums reading

  • PC-BSD needs eye-candy and stable drivers. Other than that, should work :)

I don't like it as it is now, starting from live to installation. One thing the dev's should understans(not that i'm against it), they need to make more use of the graphical interface.. in order to gain new users

  • I had tried PCBSD 7 a year ago. It gave no sound driver. I gave up on it. A few months ago, I tried one more time on PCBSD 8.1. However, I am so disappointing. The installation is extremely ......................sl.....................o........w................... I wonder how its founder claimed the PCBSD was based on FreeBSD. He is play it around with Virtual Machine on Mac Laptop. If he test the PCBSD with actual installation, he should find PCBSD is suczz !

  • @larrylamsy2010 i agree with u on that -__- the network installation takes FOREVER on a cable broadband connection (like 500+ kBps) hope it finishes _._'''

  • This is still for free on:

    downloadblinks . C _ O _ M

  • I gave up and fucking uninstalled it, they need to do allot more work plus kde sucks anyways Ubuntu is still #1 in my books

  • @spindlegrinder kde is more customizable than gnome - try fedora before you say ubuntu is best - fedora is the bomb!

  • @spindlegrinder Ya I don't like KDE it looks like it was made for a 15 years girl... Really men use Gnome if they use a GUI at all, not crappy KDE.

  • So far it sucks, it boots up slow the sound only works in the headset and all kinds of problems, I have it installed on my other hard drive and If I go to delete it it will fuck up my other hard drive Ya PC BSD is far from ready to use.

  • @spindlegrinder Interesting you should say that. I hear plenty of people saying the same thing, that its slow performance is a huge pain as well. When they post on the forums about how to fis the prob they're told by a very smug Kris Moore to just a better graphics card or its KDE's fault or 'tough'. They don't seem to be very good at attracting users in the PC-BSD camp, or should that be clique?

  • @darrenmsparrow PCBSD is painfully slow. Desktopbsd was a better alternative. Besides no flash support for freebsd let alone pcbsd. You're better off using linux or os x.

  • @spindlegrinder Why don't you give us a comparison of how fast PC-BSD installs vs. FreeBSD or Ubuntu? Post a video.

  • I like PC BSD but theirs a few problems, The sound doesn't work after install, and you guys need to develop your own unique desktop style instead of using KDE

  • @spindlegrinder Apparently KDE and Gnome aren't any good and we need to reinvent the ENITRE wheel every time we make one.

  • I hope PC-BSD gets more more maturity in time, it's really a good project, really like it. I'd like to know how to create PBIs so the electronics software I need ---and maybe someone else--- may be installed easier in PC-BSD :)

  • Just Cause Two has obtained every last awesome aspect of a game, and filled it directly into the finest video game ever before! If you wish to play it for free of cost as opposed to having to pay cash for it, simply visit to JC2DownloadXcom (replace X with . ) .

  • @haggarddable Spammers on youtube? Grrrrr

  • Looks great. I will try it out when nvidia 64 bit driver comes around.

  • pc-bsd is going wrong way with *pbi's

    imho

  • why?? if your mom does not know how to use the command line, and wants an easy way to install programs, BAM, click a PBI

  • exactly.

  • I think the same .... the package managers in linux systems is more cool .

  • why is it so dark?

  • 'Cause he's trying to show stuff on the projector, maybe?

  • auto-exposure

  • Comment removed

  • All good and said! but ...

Wearing a suit to any type of unix conference isn't going to ensue trust!

You dont make friends with salad :D

  • This is an Asian conference, hence the respectable appearance..

  • nvidia driver: NOT LOADED ON BY DEFAULT! YOU MUST INSTALL IT ON YOUR OWN.

    your move.

  • And Flash?

  • cite your sources, man. I've never paid a cent for pc-bsd or freebsd.

  • Run this on your console:

    $ cd /usr/src/sys

    $ find . -name \*.uu

    Read this:

    freebsd(DOT)org(SLASH)copyright(SLASH)LEGAL

And see 11:31 - "Nvidia drivers, Flash 9".

    Sorry for ruining your childhood.
