  • I just had a flashback! Did I actually do this for 4 years?

  • I was a Fightin' Texas Aggie in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University.

College kids like THESE you see here are the best in America -- best in the world.

    Gig 'em.

  • @1geniuz

delta dicks are long enough to drag because you're only about 3 feet tall...just saying...

  • from a perspective VMI cadet, why weren't you marching down, isn't everyone required to go at the same time?

don't rail me, i obviously don't know shit bout the place because i haven't attended yet lol

  • @MrGreenknight11

... some people are on guard, others have late SRC, etc.

  • @MrGreenknight11

Some people have guard duty, others have late SRC, and still yet more are granted optional SRC.

  • @bnctaj ahh, got it, thank you

  • lol i remember always having a watery eye on the way down cuz of my contact lenses so it was hard to focus lol XD fun memories though, marchdowns were my favourite activity.

  • Outstanding from a Norwich Grad!! Our marchdowns weren't nearly that good.

  • You are so correct. Norwich was great during the 70's-80's but has changed. I am a Norwich Grad, "77" My son is currently at VMI because he wanted a true military experience that Norwich seems to be slacking on these days. I liked the days of Regimental Commander Robert G Glass. Again, outstanding VMI Cadets!

  • I miss the beat.

  • I'm a Citadel grad, but I have to say that is how you go to the mess hall! precision.

  • Anyone here going to VMI next year? I definitely wanna get in touch with some people that are accepted before STP or Matriculation Day.

  • hey man, i'm going to STP.

  • im going next year, but not to STP

  • This motivates me. I don't know why but it does. I'm going to have to go to this school. I was debating on VMI, Norwich or the Citadel but I think VMI is the winner.

  • P.S. Does this school only commission only Army officers?

  • VMI commissions officers for the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. I believe there is even a limited program for the Coast Guard.

  • No coast guard.

  • VMI wins hands down... founded in 1839 and has a battle record!

  • Rah Virginia Mil, Rah Rah Rah. Rah Rah, VMI, '12, '12, '12!

  • Yea for Stonewall Jackson!

  • been there, dont that, about a thousand times...

  • yeah we all saw you hobbling along

  • I think I did that like 4000 times, lol.

  • i cant wait to do that in 3 years

  • My cousin left for matriculation at VMI literally about and hour and a half ago, I hope he does well, we worked his butt of to get into college. I hope to go to VMI one day, but I've got an enlistment with the army to finish, 11B HOOAH. FISHBURNE MILITARY SCHOOL Scientia Est Potestas, (closest thing i ever go to attending VMI.).

  • Today's matriculation at VMI was a wonderful ceremony with some real traditions/history behind it. Rah Virginia Mil.

  • Was this by any chance shot from room 401? That was my room Rat Year, and I recognize the view.

  • Close...403! Pretty similar view though.

  • @onemondaynight

401 is this rats room right now. What class are you?

  • @jackattack502 I was Class of '90. You must be 2011 + 3.

  • @jackattack502 WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING ON YOUTUBE RAT... NAME AND INITIALS!!!

  • Any word on waitlist? How many get in and when?

  • I don't have a clue about VMI? I've been a cadet there for the past 3 years. I know it's called SRC; I wrote "march-down" because most people in the general public wouldn't know what SRC is.

  • haha are you serious?

  • I'm seeriouzz

  • thats cool but I was asking wittigpoq

  • well if we don't "march down" to crozet hall during SRC then what the hell would you call it wittigpoq?

  • Class of 90, here. SRC and the march down are two diffeent things. After SRC, Retreat, and the firing of the evening gun, upperclassmen were allowed to fall out if they wished. The rest marched down. Many is the evening I walked down later. Many is the evening I fell out and walked downtown to Spanky's (to eat) or to Estelle's (to get drunk).

  • 1st and 2nd classmen can fall out at the bottom of the hill after marching to crozet nowadays. The only time anybody is able to fall out before marching down are the first classmen right after BRC.

  • Interesting. A lot of things have changed, I am sure. I have no idea what it is like now with females in barracks. I would be interested to hear.

  • @wittigpoq

what a fag. everyone calls it marchdown too.

  • class of 2012 most def

  • Community college. Took a year and got a bunch of classes out of the way.

  • Where are you transfering from?

  • No, I still go through the ratline and everything, but I take the sophmore classes since I took the Freshman ones and a few others this year.

  • I went to the open house overnight visit for potential cadets this Friday to Saturday. Got to see some parades and marches. Ate in Crozet Hall. All very cool.

  • Yeah, I got in too with the class of 2012, but since I'm a transfer I'm graduating with the class of 2011.

  • How does that work? Transfer in and avoid the ratline? How will the class of 2011 even accept you if you haved experienced the ratline with them?

  • I got accepeted! I'm looking forward to some cadences too... can't wait!

    -> August 23, 2008

  • I hated having to march down to the mess hall. I want my hay!!!

    MG VMI'92

  • I got in. Class of 2012 baby! Drummer too, so looking forward to RCs and anything else involving a cadence led march.

  • I hope i get accepted :(

  • EFF U! god

  • I hope that I get accepted for next year. I'm a snare drummer so I might be playing that cadence next year!

  • ur appling for vmi? that seems like a great skool

  • Why do all military schools style their uni's after West Point's?

  • Because military colleges like VMI and military high schools in the US were founded by retired military officers who were West Point graduates. One of their school's founders was Major General Francis H. Smith, a West Point alumni, who served as Superintendent at VMI for 50 years. One of their former college physics professor was General Stonewall Jackson, a West Point alumni, who lead VMI cadets in battle during the American Civil War.

  • mabey cuz their uni is good

  • thats freakin awsome :P

  • you just hate it cuz you were so weak you couldn't do it.

  • Whats the matter, 1gen, are you out of Midol again?

  • Well... your an ass.

  • bunch of fags

  • This video gives me a hard on just listening to it...gives me good memories of LCWB...Class of 2000. Looks like it could have been filmed out of my old room 401 or 403. Cold Steel Charlie baby...

  • who was your dike? I was class of 97

  • Josh Ballew, Jason Straculursi, and Joe Back-his name shall not be mentioned within the halls of the institute AGAIN! Mine was Back unfortunately...

  • yeah, that kid got rolled IIRC.

  • Cold Steel Charlie?! C'mon, everybody knows you got to roll with Mad Dog Delta. Although, you guys did have Pridigen for RDC rep.

  • Mad Dog What?! I thought is was more like Dick Draggin' Delta....lol.

  • this appears to have been filmed in the room next to where I lived as a 3rd classroom, which was right above the Washington Arch.

  • back in the Old Corps, we didn't have the gay bagpipers.

  • Well it's a good thing the gay bagpipers are neither wearing their kilts nor playing their bagpipes in this video, I suppose.

  • That's just the Rat Battallion. No doubt the rest of the Corps formed up in nasty grey polyester instead of ducks & fell out at the top of the hill.

Say what you want about the drill quality, at least VMI has its own Band Co--West Point just has some Army guys do it for them.

  • Actually, that's the entire Corps....the Rats had already integrated with the upperclassmen at this point. But I will agree that VMI is pretty good about letting cadets run the Corps, including the Band.

  • Okay, you would know since it's your video, but that looks like 200 cadets, 300 at most--did you start 3/4 of the way through the march-down, or are 3/4 of the Corps on some kind of permit?

    Btw, great video!

  • The reason there are only 300 or so is because last year there were three different SRC formations. One for 1st Batt, one for 2nd Batt and one for athletes. This was done because with the renovations to Crozet Hall. This year there are only two one for the Regiment and then one for the athletes.

  • Very nice to see they're still doing that. We used to march to class in the 80s.

  • I saw a lot of people out of step...

  • That would make you the only one then...

  • no entiendo

  • the second guy to the back in the fourth squad of the second company itches himself..

  • You have to march to dinner?! ... That's crazy! What discipline! ... yeah, you guys looked way good. Cool vid. :)

  • yes you need to learn discipline if u want 2 go to the military!
