you cover everything but leave the top and bottom open, this prevents your current from passing anywhere but between the plates. I increased production by a factor of about 5 by doing this.
Wouldn't it keep the current from shorting in the bottom area if you sealed the bottom up too? With the bottom open current can short between the whole cell.
I use either a plastic machine head screw or a plastic threaded rod. Each of those are a quarter inch and standard thread size. the machine screw can be purchased at lowe's the rod I had to order from mcmaster carr.
everywhere the electrolyte comes into contact with the stainless steel it looses voltage and current, by wrapping the cell stack you prevent leakage where it does no good and keep it to where it does do the job. If it leaks off the edges or the backs of the stack it produces very little gas but looses lots of current and voltage making the system inefficent. you will produce 5x the gas by wrapping.
The closer you have them together the more gas you seem to make. I use plastic hanger tape from Lowe's to make spacers. It isn't much thicker than a piece of paper, I just drill it out to the size of the plastic rod.
You will also need less KOH or NaOH when using closer spacing. Which is also better as there will be less risk of it getting to the engine.
Actually it is kinda fun. LOL I only made this second vid because the first one did show as well as I would have liked. These videos are the first time I used this camera since I got it about 5 years ago. LOL
what a great idea~!

how hot is that?

the heat gun gets very hot. A hair dryer will work in a pinch but takes a lot longer.

Sweet, thanx for sharing this ( outsch it's still hot ) uhh . Keep it up Bro!

So, What is the whole theory behind encasing the stack in plastic??
Or do you only cover the middle part, not the total ends of it??

the electrolyte has to flow from bottom to top like a chimney.

How do you hook your plates together on the hydrogen cell?

wow,
i never thought of that!
thank you so much

i'm new at this and i was wondering why do you shrink the plastic over the plates? does that make it better? thanks

LOL, love it. The KISS principle at it's best.

Nothing simpler ;-)

Does it matter how close the plates are? Is it better to have them closer together, or further apart?
GREAT WORK BTW

I could watch you wrapping cells all day long.
Of course this does not mean that I would recommend you make a television series out of it. ;-)
Very nice work.
