  • Thanks so much for posting. This brings back good memories from when I was a kid, life was simple and all I had to worry about was homework and what was for supper.

  • A wonderful song! Very uplifting !

I thought i can never hear it again!!!...until now i have got this chance to listen to it again...VERY NOSTALGIC SONG...MEANT A LOT TO ME!!! MANY THANKS TO WHOM MADE THIS SONG RE-SURFACED...TQ...........

  • This series and theme song is ace in billions of ways.

  • i should post the other version

    the televisions greatest hits version

  • thumbs up if your here cause of love honour and obey

  • OK, over 100,000 now. Still cool. I heard a punk/metal cover of this on WRCT today, Carnegie Mellon U's station. It was "play-it-loudable". Most people wouldn't like it, though. Never did get to hear who did it. Party on, folks!

  • I watched this after school and on Saturday mornings! I loved this song so much I tried to find it on a 45 back then . . . now I have it on Youtube :)

  • I loved Steve Zodiac --- so many good Satuday mornings !

  • from little acorns a massive success grows salute the anderson's and barry gray.don spencer, you are a hero

  • i use to wait for the theme tune so i could sing along, love it!

  • I remember watching this TV show ,My Favorite Martian and many others in 1965 when I was six years old. Pulled the power/volume knob on the TV set and left the living room (only one TV in the house) to do something because it would take about five mins. to warm up enough to see a picture! My, oh my, how technology has IMPROVED since then!

  • takes me back to my younger days oh how I miss those strings

  • I believe that if you could play that on the guitar and sing this song to the one you love it would make you everything that a woman could possibly ask for . That's only my opinion . But hey it worked for me. LOL thanks for posting.

  • craig ferguson brought me here im sorry but he did

  • It's kinda cool there are over 90,000 views of this song! Are we all getting old & regressing into the past? I'm only 54, I ain't dead yet! Kimba is on u tube too. Holy crap!!!

  • This show was on channel 11(I think) in Pittsburgh when I was little. There was no cable then, so that channel had "ghosts" and was a pain in the ass to watch. The sound came in ok, but I didn't really get to watch this show much. The song has been in my head for about 45 years though! My little Sarah likes it now, & she's 10. Some cable TV channel needs to bring this stuff back. So pure & timeless.

  • What an upbeat song - thanks for posting

  • Anyone remember them Venus dolls, the one's with the green boots made (the boots) out of tinplate?

  • Timeless song thank you for posting.

  • Memories.....sing this along with the programme back in the day

  • i remeber seeing this on tv in india-beautiful song indeed

  • Born in '55 and grew up watching this show - thanks for bringing back great memories!!! (Geoff from Brisbane, Australia!)

  • This song has been in my head for almost 50 years. Saturday morning cartoons on the black and white Magnavox.

  • Hi, Pinkletoony, thanks again for posting this. This song persists.

The version with characters seeming to sing it themselves is findable, though the current copy takes a while to load. Sometimes you have to search merely on "Fireball XL5", sometimes on "Space City Special".

  • Oh, yeah, this was The Business in '62 & '63, when I was 5 & 6...

  • this is by steve race for people who dont know

  • Written by you mean? The vocalist is Don Spencer.

  • i listened this song in opening of an episode of Tom Hanks Series "From Earth to the Moon." Very good piece of sixties space-themed song.

  • Nice one!

  • A great song from the earliy 1960s by Don Spencer

I hunted for it for years before I found a copy at a car boot sale It was released on the HMV label. Theses days you should be able to pick it up on ebay without to much difficulty

  • mp3 down load on UFO home page

  • wish I could find this single or download it!

    Gr8 memories!

  • UFO Home page

Barry Gray music sampler mp3 download

  • my dad loves this song.Thankyou for your post.x

  • Love the song, it's fantasticly catchy. Ferguson did a groovy version of it on his show. :D

  • @deenyloop Sorry, what Ferguson are you referring to? Craig?

  • The important thing to remember about this song is that when the guy sings about what it would be like to "land upon the moon", no one had ever done it. This was roughly the days of the Mercury program. And landing on the moon and flying to Jupiter were equally fantastic.

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful! Why do i feel romantic... Hunny...!

  • Could be that at least one couple had this as their first dance at their wedding reception... That couple includes me...

  • Classic

  • Craigs version was quite epic! but it would have been better without it being introduced by Paris Hilton though. the puppets even took part <3 <3 <3

  • just saw Craig Ferguson's intro using this track, wondered what it was from. actually a really catchy track, anyone know the band it was by?

  • lol me too. that was great=]

  • it was written by barry gray and sung by don spencer

  • I used to have single, the B side " I'm all alone again"

  • haha same here!

  • takes mi bak ?? great daze lol ..

  • Ahhh how I miss those days as a little kid watching this show !!

  • Fireball, a fireball

  • XTC did an amazing version of this in their early days, they had it on one of their demos/rough studio cuts. I heard it in '77 and haven't heard it since. I wonder if anyone has a copy of it knocking around?

  • This is the song Trev and Sean sing in Love, Honour and Obey. <3

  • i like this song thanks for posting it

  • There is a new version of this song. Who would have thought it after all these years. It's sung by a guy called Dominic Halpin. You can find him on myspace and he has his own website too. Worth a listen.

  • always will i remember this song from my innocent childhood days!!!! only wish i was there now!!!!

  • I was6 in 1962 when this first aired. Happy, innocent days. Great song as well, hated it when an episode was over, couldn't get enough. Even had a plastic ray gun like Steve's, mum bought it for me from Woolies, probably some of the first commercial merchandising of a TV show. Happy days!!!

  • Funny how you missed out The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, The Yardbirds etc etc etc

  • I Love this tune. I would love to shake a leg with it. Would anyone know where I could get the karaoke or instrumental version?

    Elvis England

  • gyes offcourse i'm pisssed why else would i send you this.......

  • Go Steve Zodiak! Troy Tempest?

Captain Scarlett would kick all their Asses. Then the Tunderbirds would show up and we'd have a free-for-all.

  • ahahahahahaha!

    very funny.

  • I liked the video.

    It's very Avant-garde.

    Especially around the 1:03 mark

  • Classic, Cheers!

  • Amazing! This is what's great about the internet. No matter how unique we are, there's always somebody who like what you like. If you hate something, there's another group with you on that. Ain't life grand?

  • George Noory played this on Coast and it jarred ancient memories from 40-45 years ago.

  • could steve zodiac beat troy tempest in a fight?

  • absolutely not!! steve was a bit wet! Troy beats him handsdown in everyway ,plus he was far more hamdsome than steve, and marina was more beautiful than venus!!

  • I agree marina was much better looking than Venus but her personality let her down

  • naughty! naughty! are you implying that she was dumb???

  • she was a mute slut.

  • Composed by Barry Gray and sung by Don Spencer

  • I used to watch Fireball XL5 when I was a kid mainly just to hear the closing theme. Of course, an announcer would talk through most of it and what I did hear was through a three inch speaker located on the side of the old black and white tv set. Who would have thought that decades later I would hear the entire song unterrupted, on a computer, and through Bose speakers. Thank you Pinkeltooney and Youtube for making this possible.

  • me to

  • and I remeber all the words of the end credit theme even now

  • really remember my schoool days ...wht a rocking song...keeps ur feet tapping all the while!!!!

  • true

  • my son watched "love honour and obey" and said hey mum do you know this song... couldnt believe it after all these years - wonderful.

    Thanks for posting

    Cx

  • thx and np

  • @ladyloveslilac Hahahahahaha! Ah, too funny.

  • xl love it

  • Oh Yes, you're right,.. Just took a look at the DVD-box. And it is one of the best episodes ^^

Bpught the box here in Germany for about 20 to 30€ i think. Found it for 19.99$ @ amazon (internetional) I think that payys off, cause its the best documentary on that topic. It takes you to the past and gives you a little feeling of the efforts, made to "achieve the goal"... But now I run offtopic..

  • "bpught" lol... Should have been "bought"

  • First time heard this song in one of the parts of the BBC documentary "From the Earth to the Moon" (presented by Tom Hanks). Seemed to be a newer recording, but it sure gave a little of the feeling of being a kid again dreaming of space. In german TV the series never was shown I think, but I found it on the net. It's great...

  • That is correct, the song was heard during the episode called "Spider", in honor of the engineers at Grumman who designed and built the LEM. In my opinion, the best episode of the series, I wish they would show the series again!

  • still think i am a kid when i hear this song

  • Not heard the second verse brill thanks.

  • no probs

  • @cannockchase haha

  • I like it, and this version also. Thank you for posting.

  • no probs

  • I LOVE this song!!!! Where can I get a copy of it?

  • don't know... a mate got it from a peer 2 peer site.. but they are clamping down on free tunes now :(

  • I've got this song on my iPod! Twice! I never knew the third verse existed until I downloaded the mp3 from a site about Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's TV shows a few years ago. Shouldn't be too difficult to find in a Google search.

  • Twice??? isn't that being greedy :)

  • I'm not knocking other cool music but is this a beautiful song or what? The mistake was using it for the cartoon and not putting it out there for the rest of the music world to get off on. Thanks!

  • it's sad that so many songs/tunes appear on tv/films and never go anywhere after

but that's the way it is

  • Agreed! Mostly...it's not a loss. With this song it truly was. Once the show is cancelled, this great song was lost for 30 years in my life until you came along. Thanks so much! Note: I got about 20 episodes off EBAY which came and worked perfectly. Make no mistake, these string puppets and the bizarre soundtracks are some of the creepiest things I ever saw in my life! Note II ; Puppet theater is rare in the states. Nothing like what you enjoy in Europe. Nothing!

  • This song was commercially released and was successful and in the days of saturday morning pictures any child that sang the song during the live amature section would win the prize to great cheers as the child was voted by the audience

  • A lovely song from my childhood.

  • Thanks very much for posting

  • Nice one m8, thank you for posting 5*****

  • even if it's just a blue screen ???

    thanks

  • Your very welcome m8, after all it's all about the music at the end of the day thank you :)

  • thanks all the same

  • Your welcome ^_^

  • brill 'issy

  • who sings this?

  • I don't know for sure but someone has said in a comment that his name is Don Spencer

  • Yes, it is Don Spencer.

  • Awesome tune, thanx for sharing Annie :)

  • when times were better

  • The guy who sang this used to be a presenter on Play School.

  • awesome! i love this song! i was crazy about it when i was a kid! thanks so much for posting it! :-)

  • I remember the tv series when I was little back in the 60s.

  • it's back to the 70's for me....lol

  • Besides being one of the catchiest songs ever, this was one creepy production for the USA. Puppet theaters were never big here like Europe, but this is a fantastic show. I wasn't lucky enough to collect the whole series, but I got a batch of the shows a while back in auction and they still blow the mind. Thanks!

  • Sorry to disappoint you midnightcaller77, but Fireball XL5 was an English (Gerry Anderson) production. The puppets were given American accents to appeal to the US market (most of the American accents were done by Australian actors :))

  • Sorry to disappoint you, BubCar2, but you've misread his message. He said it was a creepy production FOR the USA, not OF or FROM. He said it was creepier here than in its country of origin.

I don't think it was creepy, and it's available on DVD for under $20.

  • god this song takes me to my childhood im 19 now but my dad loves this he played it all the time when i was little :) thanx for posting (((gd ripples)))

  • Fantastic, I love this song!!! Is there a CD available with this original version? Thanks so much for posting it.

  • Thanks for your comment......I got this song from a friend... who got it from some sort of peer 2 peer client

but no doubt there is a CD out there somewhere with it on

  • Good! I love it too!

  • I was able to download it from Rhapsody, 100 greatest TV themes, the whole version

  • i wish i was a fireball simply the best ever with joe 90 close 2nd then captain scarlet kids dont no they born these days

  • yeah ...classic british kids tv

better than the crap i see my dauther watching these days

  • I'm going to record a cover of this for my solo album, with the 4th verse, because I love the damn thing so much.

  • good luck with that

  • WHAT 4TH VERSE??????

Far as I've been able to discover, there's only 3 verses!

Post all 4 verses, if you would....PLEASE?

  • sorry this is the only version i have of this song .... but ppl have been saying there is a 4th verse.... read other comments for details

  • Thank you so nuch for replying! Another fan has posted the missing verse; gotta figure where it would be placed.

My older sister gave me the boxed dvd set last Christmas...have not been able to bring myself to open it yet. Guess I'm too chicken to break that 'magic moment', when at last I'll be able to see every remembered episode in digital quality.

    Again, thanks for the reply!

    --DockWolf

  • no probs.... and it looks like your in a bit of a pickle there....lmao

  • The fire in my heart will never die!

  • always been available on limewire

  • Wow. I couldn't find the original version on iTunes. Thanks so much for this. I love Fireball XL5. 6/5 stars.

  • Well actually all who are obsessed with the moonlandings like me love this song.

  • 6/5 eh! ...well now don't go over the top.....lol

  • Nice theme, love it

  • no probs ... glad you liked it ... even if it's just a blue screen

  • i love anything to do with fireball xl5 thanks for this its great to remember the song

  • Not heard it for a week come back for another fix awesome

  • LMAO

  • Brings back the past, love it...thank you

  • no probs

  • worth five stars in my book

  • Woahhh!!!...Midnightcaller77! -I was just 'Jeevesing' you (Acting the pompous English twit!).- Most Yanks enjoy the friendly Transatlantic teasing about cross-cultural confusions!! -I thought you'd chuckle, but you took me too seriously!!! -Regards.

  • Okay, the French video was posted at least twice and one of them is blank. Both have the comment "...op" -- so try the one that isn't blank. (In reference to my previous comment).

  • No video, just a song, but still rates 5 stars as the song is so awesome.

  • thanks

  • I just found yet another version of Fireball -- the closing theme sung in French, for a French version of the show. At Google Video do a search on Fireball XL5, and click on the video where the comment is "...op" . It's at some Chinese site. It has both the opening and closing theme, wait for the closing theme.

You can hear the words "Fireball," and "yeux" ("eyes"), among other things. Something about galaxies.

  • Hey...Jackson, I ask a polite and legitamite question. Lacking an answer, you gotta shoot your mouth off anyway huh toad? And just jolly good that mate.

  • sorry don't know much about the guy

maybe if you do a search on google you can find out more info

  • America gave us its great language; Americans must forgive us, if -despite our best efforts to be British- we sometimes lapse & disintergrate back into our original 'American' accents....

  • Is this vocalist English? If so, note consistent with all english vocalists, the English accent disintergrates in song, and reverts to "American". Stangest thing I ever saw. With no one ever able to explain or even address. Note II: U.S. southern accents survive clearly in country music.

  • Great song i raced home from school to watch this cult programme in the early 1960s, the song by Don spencer was a UK hit record around 1962.- Many thanks for posting!

  • glad you enjoyed revisiting your childhood...lol

  • I was a kid when I used to enjoy the Firball XL 5 on Indian Television and was happy to hear the song once again. Thanks and three cheers to childhood and youth which never comes back again in anyones life.

  • oh so true

  • Good to hear from persons of similar thought and incidently of the same age.

  • Did you know? Don Spencer is Russel Crowe's father in law.

  • no i didn't ..but thanks for the info
