Republicans are dumb as hell... More Republicans voted against the bill than Democrats. While McCain was in Ohio claiming Victory, Republicans in Washington were voting against him and Bush. FACT: More Democrats voted for the bill than Republicans. The results show, Republicans said f*ck McCain and Bush! lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol Bush/McCain/Palin = America's Top Dumbasses! lol lol lol lol lol lol COMPLETE MORONS!!!
born2flesh... McCain's blonde aide who's always attacking everyone on tv- Nancy Pfutenhauer is married to Kurt Pfotenhauer, who is the TOP Lobbyist for the Mortgage Industry. He and Bush worked together to block the Predatory Mortgage Lending Practices Reduction Act of 2007, which died in the Senate. Last year, Pfotenhauer testified before Congress against the Emergency Home Ownership and Mortgage Equity Protection Act which would have allowed judges to restructure toxic mortgages. NICE huh?
Americans are angry and so are my colleagues, they don't want to have to vote for a bill like this so we are going to blame the tone outside the room and the speakers partisan voice that poisoned our conference...?
the speaker "gave a partisan voice that poisoned your confidence"?? really? a woman just had to say a few words and it poisoned your opinion? I'm a dem but don't like Pelosi either. but for republicans to complain that she poisoned their view with a speech is just pathetic.
she might have said something but you're the one who voted!! wow we have some incredible morons in congress. who elected these ppl? seriously !
It the house republican fault this didn't pass crying about a speech really. They were going to pass it then the heard a speech that hurt there feeling what are they two. Grow-up get a pair and act like men. Not babies. I hope every last one of them lose is this and the next election.
I'm a Democrat, but I don't like her either. Still, I'm going to cut her some slack on this one. If you read the text of her speech, the only partisan attack was a fleeting reference to the Bush Administration's failed economic policy. Which is accurate -- Bush's idea of deregulation is dangerous.
In fact, the only time Pelosi used the word "Republicans" was when she was talking about how both parties were able to come together.
that ballsy blaming the DEMS. when the replubican are the one that didn't pass the bill. Way to go!! hooray!! Lets party in the poor house. Fuck you GOP!!!
Nancy has to stop hurting republican's feelings! Just look what she did to our country's economy in one day with her partisan rhetoric. Nancy should have known that conservatives can become hurt by insinuating that they may actually be...socialistic in their economic motivations. Heaven forbid!!!
frightening. i don't understand how people can be so partisan while speaking about bipartisanship, but i forgot they're not people, they're politicians...
Many, many Americans demanded their representatives NOT pass this bailout! What the hell are they blaming for? Representing their constituents? This makes no sense. They must be trying to cover McCain who was going to get everybody to vote for it-then failed!
Their feeling were hurt so they didn't pass this bill? Give me a break. Blaming the Democrat's when the Republican's were the majority that didn't pass it (and thankfully, tax payers money should NOT go to bailing out wealthy CEO's), 133 Republican's OPPOSED this measure, the GOP were the majority in opposition. Now these school boys are crying and blaming Pelosi?! They're JUST AS BAD AS HER. Give me a break. GROW UP.
How about dividing up 70 billion and letting American people each have a share. About $450,000 apiece? It's ours anyway! That would certainly turn things around eh? Pay off mortgages, cars, credit cards, send children to college, buy things, etc. etc. Do something real!!!!
Idiots. Unbeleivable that they are playing small politics in a time like this. They deserve the collapse, it's just sad that they're dragging the people of their own country as well as the whole world with them.
Increased taxes vs your home, your salary, your job and your chances of getting a loan - plus of course increased interest rates on the money you already owe. Food prices will go up and gas prices will skyrocket. Sounds like a good deal to me. Or maybe not.
"That bill was a HUGE step towards socialism! I don't not want this government turning into a socialist welfare mortgage company!"
The point was this government already does many things you would seem to consider socialist. Forcing banks (or drivers) to have insurance; regulating the food you eat, the water you drink, and even the air you breathe.
None of this is necessarily bad. The difference between us and the USSR is democracy. We have it (sort of) and they didn't. Socialism alone /=/ bad.
Fine, but you don't seem to understand how this works.
Like many other Americans, you also seem to have a pretty distorted idea of what socialism actually is. Why exactly is socialism the end of the world as you know it? Isn't in fact the US already socialist?
People all over the world are now paying the prize for American folly. Why should the rest of the World want to do business with the US ever again?
niki877: Please tell me what Socialism is. Then tell me how the bailout is a HUGE step towards Socialism.
And then explain to me how the Scandinavian countries like Sweden(where I live), Norway and Denmark who has universial healthcare, general ban on guns, no Death Penalty, free school etc works.
After that explain to me how a country with no universal healthcare, 2 million people in jail, pro deathpenalty, against abortion, patriot act and two party system can call itself a free country?
In case you don't make it back - here's my answer! "Yet many Swedes complain that their health care system is a bureaucratic nightmare, with long waits for doctors appointments and even surgeries, and little choice for patients when it comes to things like choice of doctor."
"As Swedens government keeps growing, and Swedens citizens continue to expect it to do more and more, the rest of the world will be watching to see if it means a Utopia or an economic disaster."
Sounds like you copying from some sort of twisted Article.
First of, we do not have that long line for surgeries. Ofc there are cases when emergency rooms have been understaffed etc but not more then anyone else. Who the hell let someone be waiting for surgery when their life is threaten? Unless they can't afford it ofc.
Swedish gouverment growing?Utiopia? Rest of the world?
Dude, I sincerely believe that you should travel some. And btw: The world is Watching USAs economic disaster...
Pelosi's speech is what NOT to do in terms of PR (public relations). It was a good speech, but not something you want to say before you ask someone to vote for something you've just spent 15 minutes bashing and convincing them it's a bad idea.
no kidding.. two press conferences of BS, political posturing, and finger pointing. And NOT ONE COMMENT ON THE MERITS OF THIS BILL IN THE FIRST PLACE.
WTF are these people doing? no really WTF are they doing?!!!!
idea for you ladies regarding halloween: the slutty sarah palin. they have slutty policewomen and firewomen. why not slutty potential vice presidents?
reminds me of my grandsons kindergarten class. She was mean to me so I would not cooperate. Canton is the worse. I bet their pensions and futures are all ok
Because Pelosi gave a partisan speech, the Republicans voted against the bill? So it was a bad speech, what does that have to do with the functionality of the bill? That doesn't make any sense to me. I would welcome any explanation.
Eric Cantor, WRONG AGAIN! The most unproductive year in the history of the House
was when you right wing republicans voted to give an enormous tax cut to the rich. And what did your preoccupation for the well being of the rich get us, Eric?
Are these whiners aware that Americans have been bombarding their representatives with calls and emails AGAINST the bailout? Perhaps the representatives who voted against the bailout did so out of regard for their constituents, not because they were mad at Pelosi.
they went in with the word of the house leaders it would be 50/50 in votes, you know, that whole bipartisan thing, so they went ahead thinking it would pass based off the leaders word
turns out theyre full of shit and go back on their word and blame democrats
DING!, DING!, DING! ... we FINALLY have a winner!!! ... all Congresspeople who voted FOR the bill ignored their constituents, and went ahead and voted how their lobbyist told them to ... three cheers for the folks who voted against it!
In all the interviews I have watched thus far regarding the republicans and their voting motives, there seems to be an assumption that if the bailout went through it would have been good for the country. That may be debatable but what is interesting is that they blaim the failure on Pelosi's "partisan" speech. It would logically follow that many republicans believe an action was for the good of America but voted against it simply to spite the democrats. This is going to back fire on them.
How come the house Republicans all have a twang in their accents? Are they just hicks in suits? They brought this on us, reaganomics and de-regulation! Cantor is liar and was owned by Chris matthews the other night! Politics at its finest! These guys couldnt solve the cow tipping dilema in macon county georgia in less than 6 months!
LMAO, Everything that the Republican Party has said, done and not done was predicted 100% by The Young Turks broadcast (on YT) over a week ago when the negotiations were first initiated. I personally am against the Bill/Bailout Plan for other reasons than politics... So to see politics (special interest gains) play any role in this is sad and I wouldn't consider anyone who had acted as such a responsible leader.
This is just a bunch of whining - Barney Frank nailed them.
"My feelings are hurt, so I'm going to vote against the future of the country" - that's pretty much what they're saying.
Oh, Waaaaahhhh, she brought up the fact that Bush is a fuck up. Don't most of this agree?
Do they really want to argue against the points in her speech? No. They want to whine about the fact that she made it and draw attention to the action, not the substance.
They're blaming their unwillingness to reach a compromise on a speech that the speaker gave? Are they seriously that petty? This is outrageous. If they have a problem with the bill as it stands, then they can say so. They don't have to politicize the issue like this.
The Republicans need to address what the exact percentage of the population this bill helps. Not point fingers because of one speech. The truth is that this bailout is top heavy. It has names attached to it. Not the millions of unnamed Americans who would have to foot the bill. We just need to make sure bailing out the business does not bail out the people responsible for the failure. Ultimaly we have to look who is losing here and why.
EXACTLY!!! its pissing me off... i am pro-obama (and voting for him), but i am sick of everyone saying "we don't need partisanship... "the other side" is injecting partisanship". HELLO!!! they both are and they need to get the eff over it. mccain should have stayed the eff out of it in the first place b/c his move forced both his and obama's hand. sad sad sad.

At least some republicans had the stones to stand up to the Bush/Obama socialist agenda.
Video such as this simply shows that Bush was in no way a fiscal conservative.
Some republicans have been doing their job to try to stop this for a while.
Those who supported this monstrosity will be voted out of office next election.

I can hardly believe these guys really exist.
I mean, you can love the $ and still not be it's slave.
You can forsake knowledge and admit it.
You can dislike your fellow beings and still have no wish to harm them.
You can love freedom over law and yet not disdain law when it's for the greater good.
You can be wealthy without treating the poor like scum.
You can even become a billionaire without stealing to become so.
All these people I have seen here account for the contrary.

2handsclapping 3 years ago
the speaker "gave a partisan voice that poisoned your confidence"?? really? a woman just had to say a few words and it poisoned your opinion? I'm a dem but don't like Pelosi either. but for republicans to complain that she poisoned their view with a speech is just pathetic.
she might have said something but you're the one who voted!! wow we have some incredible morons in congress. who elected these ppl? seriously !

Increased taxes vs your home, your salary, your job and your chances of getting a loan - plus of course increased interest rates on the money you already owe. Food prices will go up and gas prices will skyrocket. Sounds like a good deal to me. Or maybe not.

QuirksMode - I would rather lose my house, my job and be penniless in a free society then maintain the status quo in a socialistic society!

YEAH! And I'd NEVER want to live in a country where the government (ew!) did SOCIALIST things like guarantee the money I had in the bank!

Oh wait...
Not to be mean, but socialism/capitalism isn't a line so much as a continuum. We are both at the same time, and either extreme would suck.
baseballnolie34 3 years ago
base - "YEAH! And I'd NEVER want to live in a country where the government (ew!) did SOCIALIST things like guarantee the money I had in the bank!""
It's called insurance. Banks have to pay the insurance which guarantees the backing.
Just like medical insurance. I pay every month in case I ever need it and if I do, I can choose my doctor. I can also choose not to pay it too.
I don't have to pay 50%-60% taxes and the government decides which doctor I go to.
Niki877 3 years ago
"That bill was a HUGE step towards socialism! I don't not want this government turning into a socialist welfare mortgage company!"
The point was this government already does many things you would seem to consider socialist. Forcing banks (or drivers) to have insurance; regulating the food you eat, the water you drink, and even the air you breathe.
None of this is necessarily bad. The difference between us and the USSR is democracy. We have it (sort of) and they didn't. Socialism alone /=/ bad.
baseballnolie34 3 years ago
Fine, but you don't seem to understand how this works.
Like many other Americans, you also seem to have a pretty distorted idea of what socialism actually is. Why exactly is socialism the end of the world as you know it? Isn't in fact the US already socialist?
People all over the world are now paying the prize for American folly. Why should the rest of the World want to do business with the US ever again?
QuirksMode 3 years ago
niki877: Please tell me what Socialism is.

In all the interviews I have watched thus far regarding the republicans and their voting motives, there seems to be an assumption that if the bailout went through it would have been good for the country. That may be debatable but what is interesting is that they blaim the failure on Pelosi's "partisan" speech. It would logically follow that many republicans believe an action was for the good of America but voted against it simply to spite the democrats. This is going to back fire on them.
Orlan54 3 years ago 2
How come the house Republicans all have a twang in their accents? Are they just hicks in suits? They brought this on us, reaganomics and de-regulation! LMAO, Everything that the Republican Party has said, done and not done was predicted 100% by The Young Turks broadcast (on YT) over a week ago when the negotiations were first initiated.

Lame
Deweydecible 3 years ago 4
They're blaming their unwillingness to reach a compromise on a speech that the speaker gave? Are they seriously that petty? This is outrageous. If they have a problem with the bill as it stands, then they can say so. They don't have to politicize the issue like this.

quagles 3 years ago
oh, and one more... the minority whip keeps sighting the 94 dems that voted against, but here are the numbers:
of 233 dems, 94 voted against the bailout.
of 202 repubs, *133* voted against the bailout.
based on numbers alone, i do see partisanship, but not on the part of the house majority. thoughts?
kaycem 3 years ago 3
The Republicans need to address what the exact percentage of the population this bill helps. Not point fingers because of one speech. The truth is that this bailout is top heavy. It has names attached to it. Not the millions of unnamed Americans who would have to foot the bill. We just need to make sure bailing out the business does not bail out the people responsible for the failure. Ultimaly we have to look who is losing here and why.
