  • Syd barrett ;-)

  • swill owns this song now

  • I agree that Stan Rogers's version is the best, but I love hearing The Corries sing it :)

  • Not as good as the original.....

  • Sweet mercy, im sure these guys are talented but this is supposed to be a tankard swilling, shout it out sea shanty! These guys sing it like they are performing for geriatrics, check out Stan Rodgers for the origional version the way it was supposed to be sung.

  • I think they would make stan rogers proud with this version

  • I want the Real McKenzies version of this song! They performed it live in Amsterdam as an opening to their gig, it was AWESOME! Paul McKenzies voice is so right for this song!

  • @JJJur Stan Rogers' version is not only the original but the best.

  • What is all the comotion about, It's about the story being told not how or who sings it. Listen to the words and you can here the pain and anguish of a man who was used by king and country to be a privateer and who had been maimed by listening to others instead of staying home.

  • AHH they ruined it !!!

  • @kimmysco Ruined it? How so? It's more singable and less harsh and more in tune with this Corries version. Definitely better than Stan Rogers's original.

  • @beckels89 you don't sing it with a guitar , and they changed the lyrics as well . sounds so lame and really not good at all ..it sounds more like a lullaby that you would sing to a baby ! blahh

  • @kimmysco did it ever occur to you that most of the crews of privateers were either scotish or irish and the corries meant no disrespect to the original, when they do a cover they always attributed it to the song writer, they merely adapted it for a scotish audience

  • @sechs1983

That's not true, most sailed out of Bristol, plymouth & London and towards the end Liverpool.

  • @beckels89 @beckels89 it is not meant to be sung like a a lullaby to a baby . it is meant to be sung like this below !! this is such a bad version . the fact that they change the lyrics is one thing . From Halifax CANADA to SCOTLAND it makes no sense at all look at what the man who wrote it has to say !

  • @kimmysco Whatever the man who wrote it has to say applies only to people who like his version. He wrote it; he can't determine how another artist will perform it.

Listen, kimmysco, to each his/her own, right? If you like the power of Stan Rogers's original, by all means listen to that one. I prefer the care and beauty of the Corries' version.

  • @kimmysco FUCK OFF N DONT WRITE SHIT!!

  • @TANTRIK21 take it your not Canadian! @sechs1983 i can see were you comming from but im true to the man !@ endora60 yes you are right in a way and i do see what your saying .

  • This is just wonderful, firefly!

A real treat for me - "live"

    Splendid!

    Many thanks for posting!

  • brilliant!

  • I like the Cories a lot, but they have gentle sweetness that doesn't quite convey the anger of a guy who's lost both legs and six years of his life to a stupid misadventure. Stan's version is not as pretty, but a lot stronger.

  • The Corries' versions always seem to sound better than the originals :)

  • Definitely not in this case :-(

  • Well UISTMAN59, everyone has thier own personal musical taste! Would be a boring word if eveyone liked the same things, wouldn't it ;)

  • I know this is a bit heretical, but I actually like the Corries' version better than the original.

  • I never saw this one! Great quality video,

    Thanks for posting!

  • Whoa!

I hear this tune pretty much every day,but Stan Rogers...

I had no Idea the Corries did this...

    GREAT!
