i grew up in bitburg and made it to koln a few times.. and allways went up the dom.. what a view. and you bier is almost as good as Bitburger pilsner..lol
What is the name of the train ticket that you bought that allowed you to travel 4 days within a month as you said? I'm asking because I'll get there in October and I'm exploring the options around by train. You went there in which month? Was it too cold?? Anyway, great video!!! :)
You can take the train as often as you like within one weekend, anywhere in Germany, and on any local train (no Intercity Express).
The ticket costs 35 Euro and is valid for up to 5 persons traveling together. We were there in March. The weather wasn't too cold but definately colder than Florida where we live.
@juril001 the Schönes Wochenende Ticket (Happy Weekend ticket) is actually only valid for one day, either Saturday OR Sunday, from midnight until 3am the following morning.
@KazAlphaville sad that it has changed. When we were there in 2007 it was for the entire weekend. That is what made it such a good deal. I guess it is still a good deal but it was nice when you had two entire days of travel. We went to Cologne and to Trier as day trips from Bacharach.
Thanks guys for a great video! And checked your channel and subscribed! Your take seems objective and not business focused! Also pretty educational! I had looked for channels of that nature as I hate being sold stuff all the time! I want to be educated and entertained! I loved my visit to Cologne, and think it beat6s Berlin hands down, in the way that it's not as scary as foreboding Berlin! Thanks again!
Thanks. I just do this for fun so no selling stuff. I figure if anything ever happens to the house I would still have my memories accessible to me online. Glad that you have enjoyed them.
My grandpa comes from Cologne too! I loved Cologne, and it's so much more affordable than my mum's Ireland and Britain where I lived for ages! Do check it out, it's a fantastic city. Easy to get to, get around and so much to do there. It's Germany's media city so that's a huge part of it. You can get amazing stuff for so cheap! Like they had an amazing hammock with a wooden structure beneath for €40 in one shop! We thought of shipping it to England, but never did. I wanna go again soon!
my next door neighbor was born in cologne in 1940,married a soldier from the usa, divorced after coming here and never made enough money to go home,i love the stories, all of them, the city, the war, reality vs common myths
I remember the Cologne Cathedral when i was stationed in bitburg germany in the air force. My buddies and I would take frequent train trips up to cologne on the weekends and party. I remember the Cathedral being one of the most incredible things i had seen in all of Germany.

The dome of cologne is one of the most impressive buildings I've ever seen. Imagine it took over 600 years to finish this building!
