I'm sure pcfaulkner, If he plays at all, can only duplicate what's already written...a copycat, if you will. It takes much more to create and improvise. As awesome as the original is, I almost think this is better. It's definitely more exciting. Keep playing in your basement, pc, and let your family lie to you by telling you it sounds really good, but know this..you actually are not good and never will be!
@pcfaulkner You obviously didn't know Al. If he'd wanted to, he could have played the original solo note perfect, he was playing " Shadows " instrumentals note perfect when he was 13. This solo, played live to a live audience, is proof of what an amazing and inventive guitar player he was.
Everyone who knew him misses him and the amazing talent he was. To say he fucked it up says more about your ignorance of playing the guitar.
@pcfaulkner Well who did you expect? you really aren't that bright are you?
Now come on sunshine, stop being the nagging wife who has to have the last word... I think you should finally shut up, you've proved to all what a whining willy you are, (but I don't think you can! ha! ha!)
@pcfaulkner "Pissy Faulkner" now you have shown your true nature.I will probably die before you as I'm beginning to suspect you are a child. You aren't Scottish or English as we are more articulate and can write the english language as it should be. You certainly aren't Cornish as someone would have smacked your bottom before now .Give it up, and accept the fact you are a talentless twat who thinks he can criticise true skill and wriggles and turns when someone pulls him ( or her) on it.
@teepriest plus read again what i put........i am saying that the original was so good it does not need any improvising, messing with you have gone off one one without thinking
Thanks for uploading this! It's so beautiful. I have seen few people play with that kind of feel. I mean you can feel it comin from so deep inside! I'm really surprised this video has so less views. People, please share this video as a tribute to the great man. RIP Al.. Miss you even though I didn't know you..
i usually hate it when people change awesome solos but omg this is fuckin amazing you should totally put up a vid on how to do this rendition of this solo. i honestly like it better than the original!
FABULOUS MUSICIAN ! Always inventive, Al could leave 99,99% of guitarists glued to the starting blocks, always at 150%. Man blended with his instrument. An important note.... he learnt to play by having his dad whistle him tunes to copy on the spot..He had ears like Jodrell Bank..
This MAN was the greatest and an AWESOME guy......Would watch him perform in Plymouth Devon.......Would play the music from Benny Hill so Fast his hands where a blur....GREAT GREAT Man..............
Awesome to see him perform again may a new age of fans enjoy his music...
Lost for words watching this..Having had the pleasure of working with Al on the road & in the studio. His musical abilities were on par with his generosity of spirit..The kind of man who would buy sweets for your kids when you the parent forgot..Bless him. Mike Cahen
Proper Job! Saw Al many times in Exeter and you could never turn up to one of his gigs and sit still....fantastic showman, brilliant guitarist. And a really funny guy.
"BIG" Al was an inspiration to both kids and fellow music lovers all over the world.
I was VERY fortunate in knowing AL.
In 1995 i remember sitting at the bar and drinking with the "BIG" man at the Spinning Wheel pub in Paignton Devon, he was both a gentleman and a scholar...
Keep it rockin Al......"The best is yet to come"....
best on youtube. damnit best solo i ever heard in my life theres so much damn feeling. i dont think anyone can make it sound as good, mabe they can play the nots exact but deffinitly not the same way he plays them
Hey Peeps. Any of you who have some vidoes od al please put them i want to remenber the good all days, i have loads of cds, recordings that arent on cds and many pics of me and him but i need to see some videos to remenber him. Been over a year since he left us but he is still there in my mind he will never be forgotten. R.I.P Al Hodgexxxxxxxxx ps Jake put some more Videos on, hey remenber ths gd old days when dad and james did the sound!!!!
I met Al Hodge in Tavistock when he was playing guitar with The Fabulous Jaguars, in 1963/64. I became friendly with him (saw him play many times, and I played guitar with a band), but lost touch around 1965 when I moved up country.
Met up with him again in '72 when I went moved to Bodmin. He was the most incredible guitarist/singer/songwriter.
The world is a worse place without him. R.I.P Al, you were a legend in your own lifetime, and a legend today. Miss you, buddy :(
my dad is dave quinn, he was godfather to al's kid aswell as band member for many years, they were in mechanics aswell as leo sayer band together...i'll ask where he's hidin all the footage! ; )
Mate not only was Al An awsome guitarest and vocalest but your dad (dave quinn) is an awsome bass player also. I followed the mechanics for alot of years and would love to get hold of the cd mechanics @ work if you know where i could get hold of it then please let me know???
Lovely man. I was taught by him until his illness got too much. So friendly. I'll never forget the day he actually made me pay him 20p for a new string lol.

The most creative and emotional playing I've heard of this song so far. I agree, few players have this much feeling and emotion in their playing.

You wrote,
" the original was written and it was classic, you just fucked with it and fucked it up".
The original IS a classic, you were right there, no-one would argue with that, but explain " you just fucked with it and fucked it up" .
