ok: QUESTION! and i need an answere from someone who definitely knows!!!!!

the sound after throttling: comes from

a) external wastegat (diaphragm)

b) compressor surge?

c) an external bov?

@surlograsp Compressor surge is bad, no such thing as external bov, you can replace your bpv with a bov, but unless you're pushing your bpv past its limits stick to stock (talk with tuner to find out when you have to replace it), external wastegate can be tuned for, so if you're doing an engine build and want that sound I would get one, but its really not necessary until ~400+ hp (at least for my car).

@surlograsp Well when you shift all of the boost that was being pushed into the engine has no where to go. If you don't deal with it it will hurt your engine, so with a bpv it takes the air and moves it back into the system where it won't hurt the engine. Bov does the same, but it just vents that air into the atmosphere. Bov vs. bpv has been around for decades, and what people don't understand is that by changing your car from stock (bpv) to aftermarket part (bov) you are changing something.

@MetroidSavior And unless you change how the engine thinks/behaves, you are pulling a rug out from the ecu's feet. Whether that change is significant is up to each person, but before purchasing a bov make sure its not some pos bov. The better quality bov the less air it will leak = the more boost you maintain. You can loose a lot of horsepower by loosing boost pressure.

@MetroidSavior ah i see: what you mean with 'bpv' is a recirculated bov;) what does bpv stands for? but if you don't have a recirculated system with integrated bov, you can install an open bov valve cause the sensor for the air.intake, it does not care about air which 'pops' out by the bov, fact: there is NOT to less air;)

just out of curiosity...is the dump sound from the wastegate unique to Supra's only...with that "flutter" sound? Because you never hear that sound...EVER on any other car that has an aftermarket wastegate

@akotr3mor I didn't hear the flutter, but if you can hear it only on this supra then it may be compression surge from a poorly tuned wastegate. I didn't hear it myself, but usually thats what it means.

lol ya i know too.. maybe u can hear it if u have a silent exhaust and ur turbo doesn't spool loud.. but unless u have an open dump off an external gate.. which i have, and i STILL cant hear it over the turbo and exh.....it goes back into the same pipe and u wont really b able to hear it ...it doesn't open all the way at full boost or you'd loose it all lol .. it just keeps boost w/e its set at.... and the only noise in this video besides the exh/turbo sound is the bov when he lets off
