I sure would like to request a recipe for your Airhorn combination to put on my 379 Peterbilt. It sure would come in handy at a noisy grain terminal when signaling a grain elevator attendant to shut off the corn loadout when I got a 80,000 gross readout on the scale.
Pretty neat what you did with that truck and the horns. However, if you know of anyone or any videos of with train horns on a used Yugo, then I think I'll laugh 'til my side aches.
How exactly do you 'Retune' an air horn? I heard that it all has to do with lengthening or shortening the bell. Is this true? I am a welder and fabricator and would like to try this.
@deerepuller02 The train horn you here here is actually,3 to 5 horns, and the can range from A D# F# or any combination, and a few others, depends on what sound your going for but yes that is how you Tune the horn. I cannot remember the site, but it tells you how to figure the tones.
Ed....that sounds like the one on your website sound library that was old recording...the one that came off an old B&O E unit. Same type? If this is the case you must record this thing somewhere with some excellent echos!!
That's the Prettiest train horn I ever heard; a perfect chord; no dissonance; I wish all train horns sounded that pretty instead of the usual "give-you-nightmares" whaling.
no. first off, K3LAs sound absolutely nothing like this. secondly, this horn is custom built. third it has 6 chimes not 3 like a K3LA, and lastly it would be 25 more years after leslie's A chord was offered before the K3LA would even come out.
thats a nice horn

What Leslie horn is this a RS5D?
xxxDeath9572xxx 3 years ago
It's a Leslie horn that was re-tuned to play this chord. I'd think that S-5T horns could be re-tuned like this (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Cchrisbud813 3 years ago
you should do this to an RS power chamber-equipped unit, then you'll have created an RS5D.

I'd like to operate a senic railroad with NREX built SD40-2s and those leslies and Nathan P-5s would be great for them!

awesome vid...but i jus dont like the idea of a famous Leslie S5 sounding like a well tuned M5. it jus aint right.
6V92TA 3 years ago
Sounds a lot like a Nathan M-5. Nice re-tuning!!!
fanoseagrave 4 years ago
Becuse this is retuned to play the same chord as the M5 is intended to play, A Maj. 6th. :)
lt1caprice57l 4 years ago
what would a normal S5 play?
tipdrip215 3 years ago
Standard S-5T plays B Major 9th.
Earlier S5, the S-5D, plays (supposedly) A Maj. 7th, though it doesn't sound quite right.
lt1caprice57l 3 years ago
ohh ok thanks....ive never heard of an S5D til now tho. and also im assuming the S3L plays a major 9th as well because it sounds so similar to an S5T
tipdrip215 3 years ago
b major 9th i mean
tipdrip215 3 years ago
S-5D was only offered in 1951, replaced in 1952 by the S-5T. Not many around.
