@kateekamm Thanks for your comment, we were so happy as he had just had his cancer checkup and he was still in remmision, then we were hit with the alz diagnosis. I'm just recovering from a 3rd stroke so I was feeling a bit low, so thanks for your prayers, it helps knowing that there are other people out there who know what you are going through. When we were told we kind of felt alone for a while, but I guess its a case of taking each day as it comes and looking for the silver lining, thanks x
@lucyebejer hi my dad has alzheimer's disease.. i am 16 and he has had it for a little over 10 years, he is 53 now. i dont know who my dad is even though he is here. i will keep you and your family in my prayers, just be strong and you will get thru this
i know that somewhere in there you can remember those days.
i know that you recognise me, your eldest grandaughter, you know how much i hurt for you. i know somewhere, deep down, you know how much i wish i could make you better. Things are different, but those memories will last forever. i now cherish those times you look at me and i know that you know i'm there.
@PERRYOL you are the kind of person who deserves to try and live a day with alzheimers! or better still, think of someone close to you, imagine what it would be like for them to look at you with no recognition, imagine what it's like for them to forget what you mean to them, who you are. that is what so many people have to cope with everyday, and unless you experience that, you'll never understand the pain it causes. grow up and think about the bigger picture before posting childish comments!!
My grandpa died of Alzheimer's when I was just a little girl. I miss him so much and wish he was still here to hold me. My name was the last thing he remembered to say. I wish you were still here, Grandpa, just without Alzheimer's.
This song brought tears to my eyes. My sweet mama never forgot me, although she didn't recognize me sometimes. Our hearts were always together, and my love will continue forever. She passed last year, but thank God, I took the "Long Goodbye" journey with her. My life feels so empty without her now. . . .
Im a carer in a dementia unit, one thing that broke my heart the other week was some relatives came in to visit their mother. They hadnt been for some time maybe longer than 6 months, and they were not too happy with the staff because they asked "Whats wrong with my mother, she dosnt know who I am". She was quite accusing, our nurse in charge told her, "you do realise your mother has dementia". She knows us. Please, you may think they forget, they dont if you dont x
Thanks for this beautiful song. My mother passed away from AD last year. Unless you've experienced a loved one being ravaged by this disease, it's impossible to imagine the heartache.
OMGTears are in my eyes. My wife suffers from Lewy Body Dementia. God I miss her. She is alive but I no longer have hugs, kisses or much of a mate It is not the woman I married 47 years ago. God please find a cure for us for all these diseases.
My Grandma has dementia it is such a heartbreaking illness. She just is not the woman she once was. She has inspired me to use my skills to help work with dementia sufferers and I am currently doing a placement with dementia sufferers helping to aid their memory via the use of song, drama, etc :) I love it!
Beautiful song!! My dad who is now 58 was diagnosed with Early Onset Alheimer's Disease 2 years ago. It breaks my heart to think about him forgetting me and my family, but it's comforting to know that even when he gets to the point where his mind doesn't remember us - at least his heart will. Thank you for this song. It's very touching!!
