  • I don't like this idea that someone should not think they have "answers" as opposed to "the answer." Often the former get targeted as being the latter because the underlying assumption is that there is no intellectual hierarchy. This is post-modern bullshit devised by intellectuals to gain popularity, sell books and enhance their status by making people feel that they don't have to do anything specific, challenge their own priorities, or cope with basic scarcity issues in decision-making.

  • @Zhookov Oh damn... Yet another "velikosrpska zavera". If he would be saying Kosovo is Serbia, i guess he would be a hero. By the way, you are basically saying protestors are stupid, naive and incapable of thinking? That is kinda ignorant from your side, would you agree?

  • tations of what the ideal leader of the 21st century should be. What i am trying to say is we should Absorb his ideas and look for the person to embody those ideals. maybe avoid electing someone who creates the next government system because This man has started something that is very dangerous to the people in power right now, SLAVOJ ZIZEK has started the younger generation thinking about what type of government we would like to have in place.

  • but how many people in politics have preached one thing and done another he is only good for the ideas he is presenting to the world. You need to think about who would make a good leader. Someone who wouldn't be easily corrupted, young enough view point too make decisions based on the future, mature enough to except guidance from the people around him who would also have to be of this caliber. those are some of my thoughts about what a ;eader should be im sure all of you have your own expect

  • A global society would crumble unless you televised everything the figure heads did . Could the world live in peace or could we as creatures of survival destroy each other to stay alive? How can we solve the growing water shortage across the world and if we cant who gets precedence in a global society? These are all good questions and statements but Hitler started out the same way so did Obama. but sure start spreading your ideas about him being a world leader im sure the sheep of the world agree

  • @alienhacker51 I Cant entirely explain my views with 500 characters. but seeing as i compared SLAVOJ ZIZEK to Hitler and Obama i probably should.hitler gained power through his words of a new world. On November 8, 1923, Hitler held a rally at a Munich beer hall and proclaimed a revolution. Or how in 2009 Obama adopted the word "Change" as his fucking slogan, like how desperate does a nation have to be for them fall for that. I like SLAVOJ ZIZEK ! so far he is asking the real questions

  • If there's an occupy event in your town, please attend. The movement is what you make it. Solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and other Occupy events from Toledo, OH.

  • It was adopted from the mosques--big mosques, during khutba friday prayer where large crowds gathered without amplifiers and speakers, pockets of people automatically take on the responsibility of repeating the message the ones behind them.

  • Zizek finally found his zombies lol..

  • the religion part is confusing, i wouldn't dig, but the rest, well.. that's basically it!! powerful words.

  • He's trying to reclaim the language and apply it to a materialist referent. For him the universal social body, the whole community, is God or holy spirit. Reverse discourse...reappropriation.

  • Animal sex? Seriously? sure, no thanks, well just no...

  • @TorahOfMessiah613 He's trying to say that in a society where, as it were, "everything is permitted", nonetheless we are chained to the current form of market economy as if it were eternal and inviolable.

  • Ron Paul 2012. Cut corporate ties to government!

  • @Learningbyhearing electing someone to office in a corrupt system does little to change anything. Radical movements and organziations must be in place to force the system to move.

  • zizek <3

  • It not the end of communism , your country need install the north korean systema .

  • LOL We are Borg

  • 99% of those people wants to be extremly rich.

  • @dopeisnik nope

  • @dopeisnik That is just a reproach to the way schools teach us what to live for, forming and deforming the vulnerable and the young to suit current interests. The point is to give people fresh possibilities for life and its aims, that is the meaning of a new world.

  • listen to vehement borg repeating what le autority figure has spewed, especially that dude standing close to the camera. it's like he just heard god speaking. he's all hyped up and shit. also, question. what happens when you criticise communism? is that something like criticising capitalism or is there a difference? mic check? "mic check?". how do we feel? "how do we feel"?

  • @911reset That critique, if against our current movement, will be a problem for future revolutionaries. "is that something like" ... criticizing feudalism and its predecessors? The point is that he isn't talking about Soviet experiments etc., but the as yet unnamed politeia of the commons.

  • @ThewildRageofGordon

errrrm, yeah? wait. no. yeah. still, chanting is just silly. also, freedom to acadia NAO! cheers.

  • @911reset It isn't chanting. It is a method used in lieu of a microphone started in Egypt; to communicate to large crowds by way of a ripple effect.

  • @ThewildRageofGordon

yeah i kno. but still. it does look like jesus camp.

  • @911reset The spirit of prejudice is strong in this one... :P

  • @ThewildRageofGordon

of course. "of course". off with his head. "off with his head". how do we feel? "how do we feel?". mic check. "mic check". (jazz hands). still, chanting looks and feels like jesus camp. sorry. fact. cheers.

  • @911reset You're a deeply invested "Jesus camp" man, whatever that is I don't know, but it's nothing to do with the explosively revolutionary ferment.

  • @ThewildRageofGordon

but it has to do with sheeple chanting. lol. google "jesus camp". and laugh. then watch this. and laugh. cheers.

  • @911reset Very true, it does follow the form of christian (and other) fundamentalist group chants. However, I believe Lacan said something like "the truth has the symbolic structure of a lie" (zizek's phd equivalent degree is in psychoanalysis; he would know). We see that here: The truth of OWS has the same structure of religious fundamentalist chants

  • @pimpinpan

yes, it's a psyop. the organisers, fake authority figures (klein, zizek, moore etc) and the inner circle know it's a psyop. that's why this "revolution" needs pr, chanting and that's why it has no goals and that's why it's being spinned as "oh, we're 99 pct we don't have leaders". pfffff. yeah, right. also, the timing is also highly suspicious. right after fake arab spring? really? no, seriously. you'd have to be pretty mighty stupid to take this ows bs at face value.

  • @911reset

I would recommend making yourself heard at an event near you. What does democracy look like to you? Is it a two-party monopoly on power? An army of corporate lobbyists? I'll take ordinary people trying to sort out differences and agreements in a park over (spectating upon) the official circus of American politics any day. Regarding the people's mic: many events have been denied the use of amplification. I think it's clever.

  • @hothohoafysd

democracy is not having 350 borg idiots repeating what some false authority figure has to say. on anything. also, why don't you check some of the ows protests, go there and criticise it. then come back here and tell how it went. you'll soon see that 99 pct is hardly 9 pct. and that even "leaderless" thingies have leaders. that's why you have the flock and chanting in the first place. duh! anywho, cheers.

  • @911reset Why don't you shut the fuck up. Just to see what happens?

    Geez...

  • @IZn0g0uDatAll

    roger, roger, sir.

  • Wise words indeed!

A message to the 'self appointed guardians of the status quo'.

    Change is coming!

  • Profound, from a master.

  • You can doo'iiiit!!

  • What we are, what they are, what we are not, what they are not, blah blah blah clever fortune cookie lines that deconstruct that this and that. Don't be afraid to suggest one specific concrete thing one could do to improve society!

  • @JonathanAcademic I guess, the point is in the fact, that all of us need t ostart thinking how to make this change. And one saying, he has the answer is bullshit. Some deeper changes needs to be done and his role is to make all these "smart people" start thinking to find a way. Zizek wants to take the philosophy role in society to lets say higher level of influence, where philospohers would make us think. I think that is great, and quite needed.

  • Do you notice how there are 2 dislikes to the 198 likes. Those two dislikes are 1 percenters.

  • Zizek, who edited books on Mao and Trotsky, said he is not a communist. Yeah, because he's a rank opportunist. I'm a Marxist, and I'm not going to deny it. Wish he wouldn't.

  • @criticizeafterdinner Thanks for your honesty.

  • ne preveč sm ti dau IQ ja se opravičujem Jack ti ga maš 8

  • @Jaackk90, Žižek ima redna predavanja v Sloveniji. Poleg tega on ni komunist. Se pa vidi da si ti zelo neumen in sploh neveš zakaj se gre, morda je tvoj izgovor da si EMO. Ima pa on vsaj 20 krat večji IQ kot ti. (ti 30 on 160). On dobr ve kaj govori in zmeri pove vse tako kot je.

  • ZIZEEEEEEK !!!!!!!!

  • right on! ... the living ethical world IS spirit in its truth ... the people's mic came across really well there too.

Izguba časa zate gledat take zadeve. Zakaj se mučiš človek?

  • I am a libertarian socialist who came to my beliefs by reading people like zizek, I cried a little seeing him speak at Occupy Wall Street.

  • The transcript for Zizek's talk is on the occupywallst [dot] org blog page.

  • October 15th Worldwide Revolution

  • @mike93345 well thats gonna need some sort of terrorist attack

  • This is much more than just a speech about communism and capitalism. Don't let these big words blind you from the main essence of all that he said.

  • "We know what we do not want. But what do we want? What social organization can replace Capitalism?" A RESOURCE BASED ECONOMY!!! If you haven't seen "Zeitgeist Moving Forward" please youtube it, and get your mind blown.

  • Thumbs up for Slavoj Žižek - best Slovenian philosopher!! :D

  • transcript of this talk is posted at the website :occupywallst . (it's .org not .com or .net)

  • Great to see Zizek supporting youth!

    I wish I was there. :)

  • Communism = Capitalism. Rule by a privileged Elite.

Mr. Zizek has made the best speech I've heard in decades!

  • @cyberspore00 Well, communism as in Leninism is the same as capitalism. But council communism, like that written by Antonie Pannekoek is radically different.

  • @spartan2600 indeed in both capitalism and leninist states, the priveleged few rule over the majority. what we need is real democracy where the majority, 99%, rule over the 1%. last time i checked 99% over 1% is a democracy, but 1% over the 99% is not a democracy it is a dictatorship, whether you have a real dictatorship or an illusion democracy it is still a dictatorship. give power the people, workers councils, workers run the shops factories workplace and share the profits, peoples democracy!

  • @cyberspore00 Did you listen to the same speech as I? Yeah Zizek is awesome but he did'nt say that communism = capitalism. Listen oooone more time :)

  • Compiled the transcript at bit.ly /otPYjx

  • ZIZEK for president of the world!

  • @PersonalSpaceInvdr fuck that

  • ZIZEK is THE MAN

  • thanks so much for the transcription. i doubt if zizek himself could have the patience to watch his own mic checked speech.

  • transcription [1/8]:

or to buy a starbucks cappuccino

where one percent goes to the worlds starving children

is enough to make us feel good.

    after outsourcing work and torture,

after marriage[?] agencies are outsourcing our love life, dating,

    [mic check]

we can see that for a long time

we allowed our political engagement also to be outsourced.

    we want it back.

  • transcription [2/8]: [we are not communists, if communism means the system which collapsed in 1990. remember that today that communists are the most efficient, ruthless capitalists. in china today, we have capitalism which is even more dynamic than your american capitalism, but doesn't need democracy, which means when you criticize capitalism, don't allow yourself to be black mailed that you are against democracy. the marriage between democracy and capitalism is over!
  • transcription [3/8]:

    [puts away paper]

    the change is possible.

what do we consider today possible?

    just follow the media.

on the one hand, in technology and sexuality, everything seems to be possible.

you can travel to the moon,

you can become immortal by bio genetics,

you can have sex with animals or whatever,

  • transcription [4/8]:

ibut look at the fields of society and economy.

there almost everything is considered impossible.

you want to raise taxes a little bit for the rich.

    they tell you it's impossible,

    we lose competitivity.[sic]

you want more money for health care.

    they tell you, "impossible,

    this means totalitarian state."

  • transcription [5/8]:

is something wrong in the world

where you are promised to be immortal

but you cannot spend a little bit more for health care?

maybe that will set our priorities straight here.

    we don't want higher standards of living;

we want better standards of living.

  • transcription [6/8]:

the only sense in which are communists

is that we care for the commons.

    the commons of nature;

    the commons of what is privatized by intellectual property;

    the commons of bio genetics.

for this and only for this we should fight.

    communism failed absolutely.

but the problems of the commons are here.

they are telling you we are not americans here.

  • transcription [7/8]: but the conservative fundamentalists who claim they are really american. have to be reminded of something. what is christianity? it's the holy spirit. what is the holy spirit? it's an egalitarian community of believers who are linked by love for each other, and who only have their freedom and responsibility to do it in this sense, the holy spirit is here now and down there on wall street there are pagans worshiping blasphemous idols. so all we need is patience.
  • transcription [8/8]: the only thing I'm afraid of is that we will someday just go home and then we will meet only once year, drink a beer, and nostalgically remembering what a nice time we had time here. promise ourselves that this will not be the case. [applause] we know we will often desire something but do not really want it don't really be afraid to really want what you desire. thank you very much.
  • hmm...what was up with zizek's 'sex with animals' joke? for me, that's uncomfortably close to Rick Santorum saying "gay marriage = bestiality and incest"

  • what does his shirt say?

  • rock my world

  • "you can have sex with animals or whatever..." god i love Zizek.

  • @Orchard6773 You're so dumb, you're actually kind of adorable.

  • Comment removed
