  • @Zeldara109: Orbital Station is one reason I hate the float timer- I'll definitely be getting rid of that :p

    But yes, if this level were condensed and didn't rely on rote memorization, it would fit nicely in some late-game map.

  • I think this gimmick might still be usable in a SMW hack level without being unfair...

    I'd suggest only using leftward Torpedo Teds though-- the rightward ones move so fast that it becomes basically memorization, especially capeless. (remembers TSRPR's Orbital Station...)

  • Hey, Did you know you can edit larrys room veery easily? theres a prog named Iggy/larry(i think) room editor on SMW central, its easy and makes more fun bossfights :D

  • How did you control the speed of the torpedo teds? Cause, some went slow, others went fast. How'd u do that?

  • @shadowthehedgehog937 It depends on the direction in which they launch, if I remember correctly. Right = fast, left = slow. I assume it was done this way so the torpedos would catch up to the player in underwater levels when the player passes the launcher.

  • Very creative, but I think it could have done with more variety throughout rather than doing the same thing three rooms in a row then having something new come up. Just a thought.

  • @DuneBelle Yep, I came to think the same after posting this version- the whole level can be consolidated into a few rooms, which would make the level easier, shorter, more varied, and probably more fun. I think I actually made the same mistake for some levels in Rise to the Challenge, but hey, it was a learning experience. But yeah, in this case it was so bad I ended up not including the level in RttC. I might return to the idea sometime, though.

  • This level is very old. If you're interested in what I've been up to in the meantime, look up Rise to the Challenge :p. A hard game, but not something that requires all spinjumps like this level.

  • Awesome as hell man. Kept me in suspense too - I haven't played the game in a minute but when you twist on fireballs/thwomps does it actually just bounce you up? Or was that a hack too?

  • No, that's actually part of the original game itself. If you can't defeat an enemy, you can bounce off of it with a spinjump. With a few exceptions.

  • You are correct sir. Too bad that thread had to be locked, funny how it wasn't noticed at all after six months. Maybe they thought it would die on it's own.

    Funny how scary true our predictions were in that thread, hahaha.

  • If I am correct, it was ZSNES. The Rom, he owns the altered copy and you'd have to find some way to pry it out of his cold dead hands.

    Unless the hack was finished, but I don't know.

  • A nice castle level, with lots of nice ideas. I will say, though, that bouncing off of Torpedo Teds over and over again gets boring. I recommend that you remove the second area and merge and shorten the third and fourth areas, and mabye have Mario spin-jump off of some other enemies.

    4.5/5, great job!

  • Jumping flames wouldn't have done anything difficulty-wise, since you're already spinjumping, they spawn below you, and you're constantly on the move. It would be nigh impossible to make fireballs come up at exactly the right spots, and pointless too.

  • After looking through all of these ratings, I actually think you should play most of these levels too before rating them. Or is it just me?...What does everyone else think of these?

  • You'd probably get much lower ratings than what you are getting now, and be left with tons of "ARGH STUPID [EXPLETIVE] LEVEL!" messages if we played them first.

  • I never thought of Grinder as a safe spot before.

    Also, I think if the Nazis were to have ever designed Mario levels to put prisoners through, they would be as sadistic as this one, lol.

  • When the set is finished, yes. I have no idea when that will be, but I'll try to work on it as consistently often as possible.

  • This is actually one of those levels where it's better to be small, because it's harder for Mario to get hit (less area/hitbox). Of course, I put mushrooms in anyway, because it's very hard (though not impossible) to be 100% consistent on this stage. Don't worry though, by the time you get to this stage you will be well-trained in spinjump bouncing *evil laugh*

    It'd probably be better as a secret castle, or World 7's Castle.

  • Lol. If I knew how to change boss battles, I would. I don't even know if it's possible for all of them. I'm planning on following in FPIs footsteps a little though- I'll try to make some creative "Big Boo" bosses.

    If only I could make the boss ride on a Torpedo Ted...

  • I liked the creativeness of the torpedo ted at the beginning. But I think you should add another one when you get on the platfrom with the pirahna plants, at the end. Just in case it gets too far ahead of them.

  • Nah, that's the point of interrupting the bouncing with a platform in the first place. Besides, the Spitting Piranha Plants actually keep you in sync with the Torpedo Ted, making it very hard to screw up that particular part.

  • well you cant combine torpedo teds with castle enimes there only meant for watere so you must have used hex to make the torpedo teds worke with the castle enimes

  • Actually, I just used ExGFX to swap in Torpedo Teds. You'll notice that there are no magikoopas, bony beetles, or bone-throwing dry bones. That's because the Torpedo GFX replaced them, making those three incompatible with the castle sprite set.

  • Aww man, I spoke too soon about the initial vid's length being fine.

    Ah well, a very nice stage. Looks painfully difficult, though, and those long jumps with the 2X2 blocks with spikes surrounding it seem more annoying than anything. Glad new ideas were presented to keep it from becoming stale.

  • OMG! And I thought TSRP's "Orbital Station"-level was hard. It contained a similar idea. But besides that, well done! I'm sure it needed a lot of testing to make sure that everything works. I think a lot of people will have problems with a level like that, but I prefer it more on the hard side anyway. I was surprised to see Iggy at the end. So it is supposed to be the first castle in the hack? If yes, it's REALLY hard.

  • Lol no, of course it's not going to be the first Castle in the game, I'll be switching the bosses around later when I'm done with all the castles. You're right, I did have to test a lot and make minor changes here and there, but it eventually worked out. This level is a little easier than most people think; it's just that since very few levels require spinbounce control, it has a high learning curve. Thanks for the comment.
