  • But, Cass Ole's markings are different from the movie The Black Stallion, does he have a brother? Or Computer Graphics?

  • @LillyTheLeapord745 Cass Ole used extension for the long "krin" (neck hair sorry don't know hot it is said in english) and it was painted in some small parts like legs and forehead... or at least that's what I read... Still Cass Ole is one of the most beautiful horses I've ever seen...

  • Cass Ole was used for all scenes except water and racing scenes.

  • Did they have to dye his leg markings? I forgot when he died, but he was a beautiful horse. I still love the first "Black Stallion." I wish he could've lived to go through the entire book series by Walter Farley.

  • This movie was a huge part of my childhood, it forged the love of horses I have today.

  • I was reading about this magnifecent creature. Amazing montage.

  • my new horse i got last week is named cass ole beau and he is the grandson of cass ole hes a baby horse hes so sweet

  • He's father was white? I love Cass Olé, he was such an amazing and stunning horse!

  • Cass Ole, a champion Arabian stallion, was featured in most of the movie's scenes, with Fae Jur, another black Arabian stallion, being his main double. Fae Jur's main scene is the one where Alec is trying to gain the trust of the Black on the beach. Two other stunt doubles were used for running, fighting and swimming scenes.

  • I enjoyed your video, but most of this video is of a horse named Fae Jur, not Cass Ole. All of the beach and water scenes were done with him, not Cass Ole. We should all remember the beautiful horses used fo this role, not just Cass.

  • Somehow I find the black horses that were used for the race at the end of the movie, more beautiful (exciting etc) than cass ole. I wished I knew who "played" the black racing horses at the race, and more infos about them. Does anybody know?

  • There were four horses used in the movie. Used to own ASA Onyx Sheik, a brother to Fae Jur. Nice vid :)

  • Hearing that there is more than one horse used kinda gives me that...'Sorry kid, but santa aint real' feeling ;)

  • If it's at all possible, could you tell me where you found the picture used at 1:28 in your video? I simply adore that picture and would be greatly appreciative.

  • can somebody tell what happend to francesca cuello the owner of cass olé?

is she still living in san antonio? and is she still working with horses?

  • a quarter horse named Doc's Keepin' Time was in the racing scenes-he later played Pilgrim in The Horse Whisperer

  • @downhomesunset

Doc´s keepin Time also played the black in the tv series and Black Beauty ( 1994)

he is even a beautiful stallion. :)

  • @downhomesunset No, the horse that played Ginger in Black Beauty was Pilgrim. Jeez they're completely different colors!

Doc was in The Horse Whisperer too, but he was the horse that was run over.

  • @downhomesunset Sorry - Doc's Keepin' TIme was not born until 8 years AFTER this film as made. He was in the television series - but not the movie....

  • What an absolutly gorgeous horse. He started my career in horses as a small child! Amazing...that you for this. :) I love the black stallion and always will.

  • I thought 'Black' didn't have any white markings! Or they cover them up??? Like the star and socks???

  • @miazhorsecrazy yes, they covered the markings up for the movie, thats why you see some pics totally black, and some with white socks and a star. If you look closely in some of th epics, his forehead looks kinda brownish, and so do his feet, which is the makeup wearing off.

  • The song is Beautiful Life - Cari Cole

  • Nice gelding

  • Actually Cass Ole was the star of film, however his owners requested that he would not be used for the swimming and running scenes, so they used other horses for those scenes. They had to put hair extensions in his mane, as well as paint over the white markings he had, so he would really fit the role perfectly. He also sired over 130 foals. Cass Ole died in 1993, from colic, he had to be euthanized.

  • Yes it is Cas Ole at 1:27...he had socks and had a white star on his head.

  • 1:27 that isn't cass ole cass ole didn't have socks

  • Yes they used 3 other horses too. Cass ole was the "star" and he was very loving and gentle and used in all the scenes when he and Kelly is 'cuddling'. They also had an arabian stallion named Fae-Jur who was very lively and two other horses, one for the racing scenes and one for the "wild side" of the Black. Kelly Reno did almost all of the stunts himself :)

  • @Shecharchoret they didn't do stunts there were 4 one died of colic the raing double you can look it up if you don't beleive me the other was found and in the first one they had one for when he was wild

  • Great video! I am lucky enough to live down the street from Cass' breeder's grandson. You captured him well!

  • please tell me the dod and where he is at rest i want to pay my respect and i watch the show and the movie alot i would like to know more about the the horse who played in the best show

  • cass olé et apollo ne l'oublions pas

  • il etait deux chevaux pour jouer le role Cass Ole et apollo

  • There were other stunt horses for this...he was not to be very close to the water...I read that somewhere.

  • @shellpen10 there were 4 cass ole did do the water scenes

    Cass Ole - cuddling,water,Island scenes

Stunt double 1 - racing scenes ( he died of colic and the found stunt double 2)

    Stunt double 2 - racing

Stunt double 3 - wild side of the black

  • Does anyone know who is singing the song here for this video?

  • taylor swift

  • @nclunatic Cari Cole

  • I met the Cass Ole double in California.

  • A black Quarter horse was used for the scene in which he does approach/avoid on the beach with Alec offering him food.

  • What year did he die? And how old was he?

  • He was equine perfection !!!1

  • i Love Cass Ole he is my second fav. horse. he comes right after War Admiral.

  • If you are a fan of The Black Stallion, please check out our stallions video, search "Ravenwood Royalty"! He is also starting a career in show business, posing for RalphLauren ads and starring in a western movie in 2009!

  • i love cass ole! i have his great granddaughter...she is jet black like him :)

  • when did he die

  • we own his grandson!

  • is cass ole the horse that played the black stallion? or is he the real horse?

  • cass ole played the black stallion

  • it was said (or written somewhere) cant remember but was there another horse used aside from cass that they used for the film, i cant tell from the film too much but i can see small distinctions in scenes or it could be the shade due to lighting, sunlight ect. do you know if this was true?

  • i don't know, but it would make sence that cass ole would have a "stunt double", he was a show horse, not just an actor, so it would make sence that his owners would put limits on what he could do and such, and so he wouldn't get tired, but i don't know for certain

  • @hersheyluva Another horse was used in some (not all) of the race scene. You can tell by watching the horse's tail. Cass, being an Arab, carries his tail in a natural arch. Look at the scenes on the island and you will see that in every scene the natural tail carriage is quite evident.

  • @hersheyluva cass ole did have a stunt double for the racing but one night they were done filming and the racing hiorse developed colic and twisted his guts up and it killed him they had to find another one

  • @hersheyluva His owners stipulated that he was not to be used in the running or swimming scenes, so three other horses were obtained for use in those shots, as well as for stunts.

  • @hersheyluva His owners stipulated that he was not to be used in the running or swimming scenes, so three other horses were obtained for use in those shots, as well as for stunts.

  • @hersheyluva He does have a stunt double for the swimming and running scenes, but otherwise its him!

  • He had 3 stunt doubles. One of them (retired) was boarded at the stables where my horse was boarded.

  • Yes, there was another horse whom they originally wanted to play the role. His name is El Mokhtar. However they were able to aquire him to play the role in the return. Sadly enough he suffered a bout with colic while filming in Morroco and had to be euthanized. Cass ole returned for the rest of filming.

  • cass was used as the main horse, but El Mokhtar did the running/racing scenes. =)

  • only in The Black Stallion Returns as far as I recall. I know El Mokhtar died from colic from the desert scene in the second movie. RIP. Both, beautiful horses, and beautiful job on this. Thanks for posting.

  • ye they are beautiful! =)

  • @vizeck I believe they had a few other horses. Fae Jur was the main "double" for Cass Ole and then I believe there were one or two others for the running and swimming scenes.

  • @vizeck El Mokhtar, an Egyptian Arabian racehorse, was the producers' first choice to portray the Black, but they were unable to secure his services for the film from his owners, who declined any offers. He does appear in The Black Stallion Returns, alongside Cass Ole, by which time the studio bought out the syndicate of owners in order to secure El Mokhtar's services.

  • @mikyroxsox

He is the real stallion that played the role.

  • @mikyroxsox The Black Stallion is a fiction story written by a man Named Walter Farley Cass Ole is the Arab stallion chosen to play the part in the movie....

  • @mikyroxsox

cass ole played the black stallion in the movies

  • @mikyroxsox Cass Ole played all the Black Stallion parts except in the desert race in The Black Stallion Returns. El Mokhtar was used for the desert race.

  • Beautifu video! Excellent music choice. I'm 64 and loved Walter Farley's books about Alec and The Black, Satan, etc. Movies were so good. Nice to read of comments by people who actually knew this terrific horse, Cass-Ole.

  • lovely shots.

unfortunately, the shots where he is running or swimming arent ole. they are Fae Jur.

  • I LOVE CASS OLE!! HE WILL BE MISSED! =[

  • As a huge fan of The Black Stallion I'm greatful to have experienced a connection with Cass Ole when I was a kid. What an honor it was to have met the owners and to have attended The Blacks' weekend displayed perfromances. I pass by their residents all the time since I live here in San Antonio wondering if they would remember me because I sure do. It's been 30yrs so I may post pic(s) of me & The Legendary Black in recognition and in memory of such a beautiful horse I will forever cherish.

  • i have a pic of him back in the day....do u recall the other horse who did the "race" in the second movie? He was El Moktar (sp?) He died from colic after the scene....he was beautiful 2.

  • I love this and I would like to know where you got that rainbow shot, that is so cool.

  • Ive been very lucky to have been raised by the lady who toured the country with Cass Ole. My mother Margo was the horse trainer for San Antonio Arabians. She went all over doing PR for the movie. She has some great stories of traveling with Kelly and Cass. Im glad to see that people today are still in love with the horse that i grew up with.

  • Two things. One my family was lucky enough to be allowed to see Cass Ole in his stall at SA Arabians. To this day I think he was the most beautiful horse ever. Second, my four-year-old daughter LOVES the Black. Every toy horse she has is even named Black and she always talks about him being in Heaven.

  • When Cass Ole was brought to Arlington Park (near Chicago) on his PR trip for the movie, I rented an 8mm movie camera (no vid cams back then) and went to see him. I was able to get by the paddock fence and he actually came by me and I gave him a good scratch; he was drop dead gorgeous! Eventually, 11yrs. later, I got my own very handsome Arab gelding. Mine isn't black but is what they call a black bay (his sire was a black). His winter coat gets extra dark and looks almost black.

  • this movie is great for all ages! i love arabian horses i want one just like this one cass ole the owners of him were very lucky to have such a amazing horse! i even have his breyer model

  • i love cass ole too!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • I have watched this movie thousands times..We are so lucky to have in common a great dream..Cass Olè, for us "BLACK"!!! I'm Italian boy 24 years old..I was so young the first time, but I watch it still now...I LOVE YOU BLACK!!!

  • cassole was a beautiful horse! we fans will never forget him! thanks! 5 stars !

  • 2:35: that pic is so cute

  • what's the song?

  • Stay Beautiful by Taylor Swift

  • A TRUE Gentleman and a Magical Stallyn.Wild Stallyns RULE!!!!!!!

  • he wasn't wild but other than that i agree

  • Cass Ole was a faboules and strong horse! I like him so much .... but I have a question to you .. where do you get all the good photos from him ???

  • i just googled Cass Ole and i got some from googling the black stallion it took forever to find all of them

  • oh ic good to know

  • Whats going on with the pics some show him with four white socks and a spot on his forehead, but others with just 2 back sock,or none,

  • the ones were he has no socks are when he was wearing makeup for the black stallion movies. And the ones with markings are how he actually looked

  • Whats going on with the pics some show him with four white socks and a spot on his forehead, but others with just 2 back sock,or non,

  • I met Cass Ole and Corkey Randal when I was 8 years old when Corkey was at the Santa Anita Race track for a horse show...in 1980. It was very early that saturday morning and nobody was at the show yet, Cass and Corkey were standing out in the middle of the track, I walked right up to Corkey and said...."Mr. Randall may I pet Cass Ole" Corkey said "Make it quick kid" I walked up to Cass and layed my hand on that black silky neck he turned and nuzzled my hand..what a dream come true for me!

  • aww you r sooooo lucky!!! I would've killed to have been able to meet him he was such a beautiful boy RIP cass ole

  • I would have loved to meet him too. I even lived in San Antonio, just 20 miles from him, I just never knew it.

  • awesome!!

  • I was very lucky to see Cass Ole at the International Arabian Horse Fair in Madison, WI when I was young. My father and I were able to talk to Corky at the stall, which was all decked out in black and red. Corky even let my best friend and I in the stall, and put us on his back for pictures. We also got to help spray his legs with lady clairol black hairspray to get him ready for his demo in the ring. It is a moment in time that I will never forget.
