by the way I also think the jew should be studied from a biological point of view I mean there is no other "race" of people who has managed to infiltrate any society, showing themselves apparently innofensive, but bringing down culture and society while weakening, sickening and festing over it. I mean not trying to be "racist" but what other group or tribe of people has done so for centuries? they want to reproduce like in thousands (abraham's story), and they are sneaky. and blood sucking.

"Препарирование мёртвых гусениц показало, что в теле пядениц остаются одно или два яйца, которые, судя по всему, и управляют хозяевами в период окукливания остальных особей."
The poor caterpillar having the wasp parasites feels them as endless painful tumors and even a slight nudge can provoke mega electric shocks through its tiny nervous system. The behavior is just natural!
think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, they are not real, it's all in my head, yes it must be...MOTHER DON"T OPEN THAT WINDOW.
I LOVE Youtubers : Scientists can't tell why but 15 yo kids all have the answer. I mean why do we hire guys with 10 years of university to make nuclear or AIDS research when you can simply ask on youtube....
Many Scientist tested a hypothesis named "Usurpation Hypothesis", in which parasitized host larvae try to protect the larvae of parasitoid from potential secondary predator or hyperparasitoids
Many Scientist tested a hypothesis named "Usurpation Hypothesis", in which parasitized host larvae try to protect the larvae of parasitoid from potential secondary predator or hyperparasitoids
why does it die right after the wasp baby births? do the babies kill it? and does it need to be a female caterpillar? thats some nasty jedi-mind tricks that the wasp has.
@realistromeo They don't know why, or what mechanism. But essentially, the babies no longer need the catarpillar for survival, and therefore his/her usefulness is done, which means the new parasitised catarpillar dies, as it no longer serves any function. It isn't the babies "kill it," it just dies. (It's not so much of starvation as the NatGeo vid suggests). But what is interesting, is that a couple larvae stay behind in the catarpillar, scientists think they may have something to do with it.
and the flat worm that gets eaten by a snail, comes out in the slime, gets eaten by an ant controlles the and and then gets eaten by a cow and becomes a tape worm.
This is not the first time such thing happen in nature ..
.. there is a bird species which lays eggs in other bird's nest so that its offspring will be taken care by the other bird (which mistakes it to be its own offspring) when it hatches. I can't remember what bird but I saw it before..
Some animals are quite clever, evolution makes some species think of clever tactics to survive, albeit cruel tactics ..
I think in all likelihood the caterpillar is confused into thinking it that the wasp larvae that emerged from its skin is the caterpillar's own offsprings, thats why it treats them like its own babies protecting them ..
@kkdkk7 I would doubt this very much, and the reason is - the catarpillar stops eating completely. It doesn't just defend the larvae, it ceases any function OTHER than defending the larvae. In addition, it defends the larvae only for the duration they need it, no longer. After which it dies.
The few catarpillar that do not defend the larvae (2 out of 19), find themselves in a catatonic like state. So it really is a form of mind control.
Wow, u do know a lot about this thing .. assuming what u said is true (which I hope u r not making things up) - there's a few statements which I think u r "over-concluding" ..
(1) the fact that the caterpillar ceases most functions does not imply anything about whether or not its defending the larvae as offsprings. It could be that its normal instincts to eat is affected badly by the larvae while they were inside its body
@lorenzvc THANK YOU!!! Even here in Europe, when I first heard that "joke" , I thought it was stupid even though I didnt know where it came from. Now that I know its origins, I still think its stupid, and anyone who says it, has a 1 dimensional view of comedy. Thank you for having intelligence and class.
I love insects! Great video - thanks for sharing it! The only time I don't like wasps is when they are flying around the deck in my yard or swarming around my kids. I found this inexpensive trap that eliminates wasps safely. Just google Fatal Funnel Traps and you will see what I'm talking about.
My theory is that perhaps the catterpillar's skin becomes sensitive to touch due to enzymes secreted by the larvae before they emerged from the caterpillar's body. If that were the case, then the catterpillar would be thrashing about to prevent painful contact. Just a thought.
that could also explain the fact that it wont move. it may make the body sensitive is some parts. if it were to move, that would cause more pain. either that, or the wasp larvae end up crippling it.
@falcoperegrinus82 On the contrary, it is actually a theory as it is merely contemplation or speculation. A hypothesis is step one in the scientific process one would utilize in an attempt to prove a theory.
@elteescat What you said is a hypothesis because it was an educated guess posited to explain an observation. A (scientific) theory is a hypothesis that has stood up to the rigors of scientific experimentation and scrutiny and has been verified to be the best explanation for a phenomenon among competing hypotheses. A scientific theory is in no way "contemplation or speculation". BTW "proof" means nothing in science.
@falcoperegrinus82 Actually it was an uneducated wild idea. LOL And Dictionary Dotcomdid, indeed, say in definition 6 of theory that it was contemplation and speculation! I know nothing about animals and enzymes, I'm a beginning bio-medical engineering student with little knowledge as of yet! =D
@elteescat Dude, what does definition #1 in dictionary dotcom say? And synonyms section of that same page? You're confusing the common usage definition of the word with it's meaning in scientific context; the distinction here is critical. It is common for people mix up the two (i.e. creationists saying "evolution is only a theory" which is very often deliberate sophistry.). It doesn't matter how uneducated your guess was, however good or bad, it was a hypothesis nonetheless.
@AntiPsychopath Yes, but you don't realize *pulls out a blackboard* you see, parisitic wasps inject not only eggs, but a special virus that takes over the physical being(basically, mind control) of the host the host becomes basically a brainless slave to the things inside it (or, if the wasp decides to take it to the hive for food or something, the wasp controls the host to walk to the hive) no scientist can explain what makes it happen, but it surely is awesome!
