@cruisereg The coolest part is that you get to drive an awesome car and the back portion of the track where you can finally get up some speed. Get ready for brakes though.
The rest of the course is just plain boring. Maybe those guys will loosen up a bit after a while and give people what they paid for.
I go to Talladega once a year to drive and those instructors ROCK! 165 mph and the instructors aren't afraid to let you do it!
I drove the Ferrari 458 last Friday. Bummer to hear that some folks weren't able to push it. I have some SCCA and PCA racing experience and I think the instructor was comfortable with letting me push it. Even still, I only drove it to what I was capable of; nowhere what the car was capable of. Turned a couple of 1:00 laps once I was comfortable. The instructor did a 0:57 in a ride-along in the black Lamborghini.
Bottom line is that you go as fast as the instructor thinks you can, and no faster.
The instructor expects you to go 20mph or less on the road course, Those cars are more than capable of higher speeds through the turns.
After I finished coming out of the boring road course and decided to give it some gas and go! The instructor slowed me down to about 45 mph and said maintain...I paid $430+ to drive a Ferrari so I ignored him a little. He responded by saying MAINTAIN a little louder.
I finally got the the section of the track where I co
@Shanman310 Your problem was ignoring the instructor. If you do everything they say and follow their instructions, they will let you do more with the car in the later laps. But if you immediately come out of the gate with your foot slammed on the gas, they will throttle you down, assuming you are dangerous. You have to earn their trust. They don't know you or your abilities. Show them you can handle it little by little and they'll let you. Disrespect them and they'll limit you for their safety.
Is it just me or does this look *really* slow? I saw another split window video with the speed/RPMs and it was super slow (never above 65-70 mph). I've got this scheduled for May and possibly may go weekend after next - if the speeds are this slow, it's going to suck :(
@cruisereg I was able to do this last week as part of a training program for the travel agency I work for. I rode in the Porshe. We didn't drive, just did ride alongs. The car pulled at least 130. It was a blast! I'm booking it for my husband as a birthday gift for a trip in November :)
@cruisereg It does look slower in the video than it is in real life, but it's not all about speed. It's also about driving, maneuvering, and handling. If you're looking for a drag race, this isn't for you. This is about the experience of driving an expensive car around a course designed to showcase all of its abilities. If you prove you can handle the car well, you can push it well over 100mph.
@InsideTheMagic Trust me I understand what real driving is about, I could care less about a drag race (or a Nascar experience). That being said, I have had cars where I know I could close to the speeds I've seen in some of the videos, in the road course. The road course is THE reason I'm doing this in May.

Continued . I finally got to the portion of the track where I could open it up and by the time I got up some speed,it was time for brakes.
I've been around Talladega at 165mph and it was much more fun with them telling you to slow down.
The top speed I got with this was 110mph and the short straight and then it was time to hit the brakes.
To sum it up...slow boring turns and not much usable track for high speed!
I wish there was a satisfaction guarantee...I'd be asking for my money back!

Cool! How much does it cost for the Ferrari experience?
lensmaker1 1 month ago
@lensmaker1 The 6-lap driving experience in a Ferrari currently costs $389. Add another $100 or so if you want video of your drive.
