  • I agree with the post earlier about how WONDERFUL it is to see skaters with curvier shapes. It's awful to see these skeletal girls on the ice today and I am CERTAIN that it's part of the reason why figure skating has been losing popularity. Emily Hughes (sometimes) is a throwback to the days when skaters were shapelier. I only recently discovered Lisa Ervin and every performance I've seen, I've enjoyed. Who cares about jumps? Lisa's skating style is truly beautiful and she's absolutely gorgeous.

  • A 'great' many people agree wholehartedly with you!!!! Many would prefer to see an artistically worthwhile performance, rather than an 'obstacle' course as it is now. best wishes

  • Great vid!

But when are we gonna see Magnussen's 1973 World-title winning LP? :)

  • I only have an audio of it, but perhaps I will post that soon. The holidays and jury duty have cut into my YOUTUBE time!!! SHOCKING!

  • Isn't Pewter such an ugly color for a medal!! for such a prestigious accomplishment,. Maybe they should take a lead from the Jewelry Channel and call it the "Tanzanite" medal or something. Seems like "Diamond Pendant" medal falls off your lips pretty easy!!! Anything but pewter, how common and base!

  • I remember her from sectionals (midwesterns) a long time ago. She was a nice girl and was always battling weight (as so many 14/15/16 year old skating girls do).

  • I don't think it should be such a BATTLE!! I kind of enjoy seeing the skaters from the 60's and 70's with their more realistic shapes. Maybe if we outlawed triple jumps, it would force them back into artistic skating. All the triples are just cheated illusions anyway...who needs em! Let's go back to a strong GUS LUSSI technique with big, high exciting jumps........

  • Thanks for writing this...I agree. Perhaps this is why I find todays competitive skating so boring to watch. By and large the jumps(as well as most of the programs) are dull, flat, small, uninspired and uninteresting. Gimmie a program with some skating in it, not all this busy little gymnastic garbage. Gimmie a languid slow section, then big, powerful, high solo jumps done by lovely ladies. ,

BTW...I don't mean to offend anyone with my rant, it's just one layman's armchair opinion.

  • AA-men!!! from the choir!!!

  • roz sumners says having a triple does not make the better skater

  • So true....but they won't let you be champion these days without quite an arsenal....I don't mind the new rules in the short program.....but why not make the long program an exclusively 'artistic' effort!!! (the wilder the costumes the better!! lol) thanks for commenting.

  • Actually, she did medal in seniors. She won the 4th place (pewter) medal with this performance in 92, and won the silver medal behind Nancy Kerrigan in 93.

  • Yes, you are right! with my bad vision, I looked right over the second in 93 on my history list here. I think I was distracted by the listing of NO winner in 1994. I am also 'old school' and did not know there was a pewter medal. 4th place at US is certainly a place of honor and I am glad they commemorate it now!! best wishes
