you might not be so giddy when the snake gets bit or even killed by the prey i speak from experience one of my snakes out of 8 i was feeding just like you do and the snake got the rat by the side and the face was free and in front of a coil so the rat bit down and held till he died after that i never did live and a year or 2 after that i got rid of all my snakes cause it wasnt the same all i gotta say is i recommend you kill it right before feeding hold the neck and grab the tail and pull done

Snakes squeeze so hard (90psi, in one test featured on YouTube), that most if not all the body fluids get pushed to either end, the front and rear. Since nerve impulses are deadened with even modest pressure (removal of fluid), I'm wondering how long it takes for a rat to stop feeling its rear end after constriction starts. (Once my hand was "gone" for two days after I slept on it.)

Is the kicking voluntary or just "nerves" as in a beheaded chicken? Does it feel anything down there?

The rat will also have its internal organs crushed, which are fatal. The kicking is most likely nerve reactions, simply reflexes.

Drake is a beautiful python and I'm sure you are a fantastic owner.

That said this video is a perfect example of why you should always feed F/T mice, if the option is available to you.

That "kicking" was scratching at your snakes scales, while Drake was fine, sometimes the snake is not so lucky and can end up loosing scales. Those lost scales can result in a costly trip to the vet and just be very unpleasant to the snake.

Let this be a warning, f/t = best choice.

you should get a stick and hold their back legs back because even though the mouse is incapable of biting it it could still claw the snake with its back legs.Cool snake I would love to have a pastel if it was under 100 bucks but I might get a ball python I can't wait!

Only snake I ever had was a copperhead ... but he never would eat for me. I tried everything ...even made him a bologna sandwich ... dumb ass thing wanted to die too bad .. but he was gorgeous copper and gold colors. He ate the day I bought him and died 3 months later. He was an awesome coiler and striker ... shook his tail like a rattlesnake. Your snake really makes me want to get one ... but the Mrs. would never go for it ... she raised mice when she was little.
