@andrewerdna100, I would love to say Mutombo, because he's the most thoroughly enjoyable and likeable guy in the history of the league. But in honesty, Mourning, because while Mutombo was the better defender, Mourning was much better on offense while still being a great defender.
@jdlund I figured Mutombo's offensive game would be limited considering his size and lack of speed. Mourning may be 6-10, but dude was beast and explosive inside and also KNEW how to block as well.
@unknownkingdom no i am from canada we have tsn, but i'm pretty sure that it was manute bol that died and ive looked everywhere and there is no proof that dikembe is dead
Mutombo is guaranteed to make the Hall of Fame in 2015. Great player, played until he was almost 43 years old, and did so much for people all over the world. That's why he's in, there should be a statue of him in the Congo!!
Dikembe Mutumbo was a very good college basketball and pro basketball player. He was a very good defensive player and could rebound with the best of them in his prime. Mutumbo is a great man not because of basketball but he will be known for his philanthropic and humanitarian efforts in the republic of Congo and throughout Africa. He is a great man helping build hospitals in third world countries. Those people will never forget what he did for them.
Eventhough hes been mentioned a lot as an exellent defender he had an aggressive offensive game as well in his younger years..and I love the finger;...No not in my house!!!!!
Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, AND Houston Rockets Should all retire # 55 Center Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo. A TRUE NBA HALL OF FAMER. COPY & PASTE
If you play bball at all, you gotta check out snipurl[dot]com/nbatraining. It’s a vertical training program that will help you start dunking and you don't even need to go to the gym (if you don't want to)!
@uberathlete there some myth about players not being as athletic in olders era (60-90) to today nba,and belive me it's not true brother, bill russel and wilt chamberlain were a world class jumpers
i went to see mutumbo in '97 when i was 9 years old. he played for the hawks. they played the lakers ...let me refrase that, they demolished the lakers.kobe didnt play yet nut it wouldnt have made a difference. we waited outside for an autograph, he showed up but the crowd was to big.
Mutumbo was one of my favorite players. I remember watching him when i was 6 when he was part of the 76ers. I just loved him. He better make the hall of fame, especially after what he has in college, NBA, and outside of basketball. He should be the role model of all of these kids, not kobe, who's a big shit.
I agree he was a helluva of a defensive player... but offensively he really couldn't do much. Isn't Mark Eaton like top 5 on the blocks list too? He's got no shot... why Mutombo? If Deke goes, then should Ben Wallace?
I really like Mutombo and have fond memories of the man, but I doubt he'll get in.
@Trinidadian125 deke is SECOND in block shots in a mile, ben wallace is no where near close. Besides, his career points are over 11000 which is which is not a bad number and his career rebound is outstanding too. Ben wallace stand no chance stats wise. Dam i hate how nba had turned into an offensive show where all that matters is points ignoring defensive stats
I agree with you about the NBA becoming an offensive-minded league. You really can't blame MJ either as he was an amazing defender. I think it's the ushering in of European players and players coming out of high school (therefore never getting a chance to play against and learn 'system' defenses).
When I was a kids I sent off to have his card autographed and I got it BACK! woo. Rookie card too. Any takers?
