the 8800 ultra's held their own through the 9000 series (will beat most of them) and can still compete with a gtx 260! the 8800's were some of the best cards nvidia ever made! I still have two 8800 gtx watercooled cards and they will smash any 9000 series card and will easily beat (but not smash) a gtx 260.

I'll take you on with that any day of the week... the 9800gtx+ is nowhere near a gtx280 (not to mention the new gtx285 which draws less power and performs better than the gtx280). you should check tom's hardware video charts for 2009(google it)... You'll see that your 9800gtx+ is ranked 17th and a gtx 280 is ranked 10th (in 3dmark06.) and in f.e.a.r. 2 it drops to 18th while the gtx 280 drops to 13th (about equal drop). not to mention that overclocked gtx 295 which just smashes everything!

though the gx2 and gtx 280 barley beat the 8800 ultra it was a biased test

people that buy these cards also buy a 30 inch monitor and turn up the AA

on a 2560x1600 resolution and 16xAA the 280 and gx2 began to buckle under the intense resolution and the 8800 ultra came out on top

8800 ultra is only 200$ now so if you got one its cheaper to buy another 2

actually that's where you would be wrong, an 8800gtx still owns most of 9 series cards except the new 2xxseries . 8800gtx>9800gtx, in price performance, vram, and the most important aspect, card bandwidth the 8800gtx dominates the 9800gtx.

Don't be deceived and think just because 9 is greater than 8 that it is a better card.

I interned at IBM incorporating linux kernels into the new cell based gpu's that you find in say the PS3's, so please take my word that Know a little bit about this subject. g92 is nice, but it is in no way faster, it only produces less heat, which I guess by transverse means it is faster, but only in the even that both cards were overclocked to the point that they were unusable. 8800gtx/ultra>9800gtx end of story.

the processor is newer yes, but do even know what they changed? all they did was miniaturized the g80 architecture, it is not faster, and it is definitely not better at utilizing vram, and even if it was brilliman, what does it matter what it can do with the memory if it has to go through a 256bit memory interface to get there, its like saying my ferrari can beat your lambo, but the catch is the ferrari is going to be towing a trailer, it just doesn't work that way.

I owned 2 x Ultra special editions XT's the best G80 silicon ever made then OC'ed them past anything sensible. And until my GTX 280 XXX SLi arrives nothing, I mean nothing came close to those units at 1920x1200 or XHD (2560x1600). The GTX 280 is the true hier to the G80 ultra.

Geek is 100% correct, please view my 1920x1200 DX10 crysis benchmark form months ago and no 9800 Sli users could beat it.

Well, first you don't need the Galaxy PSU to be 100% modular...They don't think you will need the PSU without the mobo connectors...

Also, you can't run 6 monitors on your rig...not even dual monitor (multi-monitor NOT supported on nVidia SLI technologies)
