  • I'm learning this song with my choir at the minute for a competition next month and trust me it's a lot harder than it sounds some of the intervals are extremely awkward and it is incredibly difficult to sing this song note for note

  • It was just okay. I feel like it felt somewhat rushed in the best parts. This song is so great because it's so simple, and I don't think you all captured that all too well, though lots of great things happening as well!

  • oh, p.s. if you want a difficult version look up westminster chorus version!

  • let's just say "It's easy to sing, difficult to sing well!"

  • Music cannot be determined by "easy" or "hard", but by how the director, and the performer interprets, and then by how well he or she masters it. I have seen many extremely talented a performer take beautiful music and devalue, degrade, and demean it for their own ego. When done properly, you walk away changed, better, uplifted and it lives on inside you forever. Kudos to the NH allstate!!! As a choir director myself, I loved it. Thank you.

  • I sang this in my high school choir sophomore year. It's been four years and the song is still my favorite. Not an easy piece, but when done correctly it's absolutely beautiful. Amazing job!

  • the men's section is to die for

  • not a fan of the 'ha-ha-ha-ha-ining night" but its realllyyyyy goooodddd other than that

  • Beautifully conducted and sung. Love the slow tempo and beautiful ritardandos....hauntingly beautiful music by James Agee.

  • @kathryncolantonio The text is by Agee - music by Lauridsen.

  • this piece is so beautiful, my choir is singing this for our winter concert and i am so excited(:

  • I'm excited! Its one of the all state audition songs and I love it(:

  • Lovely diction for a lovely piece, sung expressively by wonderful young voices.

  • No just saying that the choir I was in I'm more partial to and enjoyed the feel of our interpretation more. Our director showed us this recording when we picked it so it's not that this isn't a moving interpretation. Just different than our. Not bad, just different.

  • Not to discredit what this group has done with this live but my high school chamber choir did this song for state contest and I personally believe the interpretation we had on it was much better and more moving than this one

  • @superduperbeans1234

    your point?

  • @superduperbeans1234

Do you base what you say on any sort of evidence?

I know Dr. Galvan personally through my college work with her, I bet you wouldn't say that to her face, heh.

  • You guys sound amazing! Thanks for the great music!

  • One thing i really like about this choir is that you can hear all of the parts.. Good job this song is a difficulty piece were doing at my school ..but very nice sound :)

  • I wouldn't call this song an easy piece. I was in this choir, and it took some work.

  • @motdt81 It's Lauridsen. He doesn't write the easiest stuff, but he writes some damn great stuff. We sung this at AYC this year, and it turned out really well.

  • why would such a prestigious choir perform such an easy piece?

  • @mightymasher19

this Is NOT an easy piece. it was premiered by a professional choir.

  • We had Dr. Janet Galvan the year before for NY All State Choir. She is really a treat to work with and she taught us so many things. All in 3 days!

  • You should hear Texas' All State choir!

  • This was another of my favorites! i was in this group last spring, and Dr galvan was beyond incredibly good. :)

  • with the hel they put you through, how does someone in the guys not have this memorized, i just got it last week, and have it memorized, and thats just cuz its so beautiful, but thats not even for allstate or all county, its for school xD

  • thats an allstate pianist????

  • a poem about what lies beyond this Earth and realm.

It's about longing for a place that must certainly eclipse the seemingly insurmountable beauty and light of this life.

In this poem, Agee is weeping for that place...

"On this night, when the stars are so bright as to leave shadows on the ground, Fate (or maybe a Guardian Angel) had better keep a close eye on me."

"Because, though all is warm and happy around me here on Earth, I long for what lies beyond this life."

  • I have to say that I think Dr. Galvan has one of the better interpretations of this piece

  • Nice job! This piece is sneaky difficult. The opening men's part is almost impossible to get just right. We did this piece this year with Pennsylvania's all-state chorus.

  • Yeah I was in this group too, learned a lot about vocal technique

  • I love this piece so much, it's so beautiful

  • This is great for a high school group!

  • @CDRphoenix it is an all state group though hahahaa

  • Thanks, for a wonderful recording of this piece. You have an incredible conductor. Kudos to Dr. Galvan.

  • @mattjude371 I was actually in this group and she was an amazing instructor. I've never learned so much from a vocal teacher in such little time

  • @okeydokeyjones27 same here
