He's here not asking for money, not even telling you to do something (though he does imply it) but instead is THANKING US for what we've done already, and is showing how Africa is already getting (slowly, very slowly) better. And people still say he's self absorbed? He never once mentions what HE did but much more what the rest of the world did, and is thanking us for that.
All this to say, who cares if he spends a little extra money on nice clothes and nice things? He was worked hard and can afford it. He has also realized that he can use his fame and stature in the world to meet with the people who can make a difference in Africa.

Poverty and HIV/AIDS will never go away. One can advocate and donate until the end of time but a "class system" will dominate where certain people will be part of. Maybe if the truth is told that wars, despotism, exploitation, and geopolitics on this continent prevents progress. Bono and U2 pay plenty of taxes in Ireland, which if you knew anything at all, Ireland is one of the highest taxed country, and don't lie to me and tell me that everyone who pays taxes doesn't look for any loophole to pay less. Their royalties were only tax free, and that ended last year. They still have to pay taxes on their other income and property. The only taxes they moved were the royalties from their Albums. I really wish you people would learn the faxes before you post.

4 billion people around the world are robbed of the chance to better their lives & climb out of poverty, because they are excluded from the rule of law. Whether living below or slightly above the poverty line, these men, women, and children lack the protections & rights afforded by the law. They may be citizens of the country in which they live, but their resources, modest at best, can neither be properly protected nor leveraged.

Bah, that exaggerated optimism is horrible and makes me sick, there is no quick fix for all the issues that plague africa, like it's our fault or the politician's fault that the way things are the way they are. And throwing money around will not solve the problems, cheap medicine is a step in the right direction, but means nothing if you don't change people's misguided believes about aids and sex. Bono needs to tone down the utopianism and be more realistic.

He's here not asking for money, not even telling you to do something (though he does imply it) but instead is THANKING US for what we've done already, and is showing how Africa is already getting (slowly, very slowly) better. And people still say he's self absorbed? He never once mentions what HE did but much more what the rest of the world did, and is thanking us for that.

All this to say, who cares if he spends a little extra money on nice clothes and nice things? He was worked hard and can afford it. He has also realized that he can use his fame and stature in the world to meet with the people who can make a difference in Africa.
I bet he is doing exponentially more to help the poor of the world then myself or his critics are. At least he is doing something, which is more than I can say for myself, as well as the people I come across that criticize him.

If you read about the problems in those nations, they stem mainly from debts to nations and the IMF that are crippling these nations and not making them able to fix the problems that need to be fixed.
This all goes back to the teach a man to fish analogy. Relief is not going to solve the problems in Africa. They run much deeper than that.

I wish people realized that throwing money at Africa isn't going to solve anything. He has partnerships with Bill Gates and other rich people of the world. If money could solve the problem they would just write the check. All the money the original Live Aid raised was blown in a matter of weeks if not sooner. I don't like Bush, but i don't see why Bono is wrong for giving him an ipod. He sucks up to Bush so he will give more money to Africa, which has worked. He's been making speeches and convincing politicians to help for 20 years, so he's not doing it to look good. Plus, what proof do you have that he avoids paying taxes? He does have property, and Ireland has the highest property taxes in Europe. The only taxes they moved were the royalty taxes, which they didn'yt have to pay

im glad bono is doing this, hes doing the right thing and should be appluaded for it, more people should do it too but some of theses comments are right when you preach about making a differecne while wearing rockstart glass and rocktstar shirts it makes people question his sincerity, as it did me. it is good what he is doing but he still has some to learn about giving and caring.
