Mars Hill Bible Church in Michigan was launched after Mars Hill Church in Seattle, but Mars Hill in Seattle was so small at the time that I would be surprised if Rob Bell knew about it. From what I understand, they are are so different in personality and theology and practice that I would suspect they would avoid association.

The Puritans were much, much, MUCH more intense with their sexual language than any modern person could ever be. I can recall one Puritan pastor talking about Christ "making love" to his church. That's how deep the love is. Sinful man's interpretation of this is what is evil, no the content. The trinity is a deeper union than anything a man and woman could ever have sexually. Having said that, allgegorizing the Bible (as seen with Song of Solomon) is something we should have ZERO tolerance for.
