My logic pro only seems to have 15 different drum presets & they suck, while yours on the other hand has many. Mine dosen't have 'Ghost Town' or anything cool like that. Anyone know what I can do about this & get the presets I want?
Fantastic tutorial! I've just started using Logic in the past two days and your tutorials have helped me gain a better understanding of tools like Ultrabeat and ES2. Thanks a ton!!
I was wondering how you altered your Clap and Snare to be so short and 'snappy'. When I open up the default 'Ghost Town' drumkit, these two have a echo-ish sound to it. I'm quite a Logic noob so don't shoot me for posting a silly question.
Thanks in advance for getting back at me with this! Cheers and thanks for the tutorial!
Very helpful! Thanks alot for posting :) Im struggling with how to put it into the MIDI track as well as some of the others here though.. But thanks alot!
at the LEFT BOTTOM corner of Ultrabeat, you see the word 'Pattern'. Right next to the right of this word, there's a small grey rectangle with little dots in it. (On mouse over, these dots will appear red). When you like your pattern, simply drag this rectangle to your arrange window, in your drumtrack-lane, et voila!
Hi i was able to make a beat but I can't put it into the MIDI track and like stop it and start it any tips. Btw great tutorial, I'm just a beginner in logic still and this helped me alot!
Excellent tutorial!! I have been trawling youtube for weeks now looking for something super simple and properly user friendly. I am very impressed with this and will be using more of your tutorials in future. Thank you so much.
Really solid video, thanks. I was wondering if you can take a break loop, slice it up into hits and then import it into Ultrabeat keeping the original groove in tact.
Making it easy to re-program your deeply dug break keeping the original flavour but allowing you to making small changes here and there to the loop?
I know you can use the keyboard sampler for this but wondered if it was possible in Ultrabeat?
@DJAntiWack Hmm, interesting idea. It would be possible, as you can import EXS instruments into Ultrabeat. Do a Ctrl-Click on your loop region, go Convert > Convert to New Sampler Track and choose "Transient Markers." Save the resulting EXS instrument, and import it into an Ultrabeat. You might then have to glue the original loop back together, flex it and take a groove template, and apply it to your MIDI region playing the Ultrabeat. Complicated!
Please check out my tracks and follow us online as we build a fanbase during the making of Hallucinogen, our 4 disc debut album! Feel free to help us with the process by adding ur two cents and tips! ur in trouble if you think you know everything, right?
@soundsLogical, okay so if I try scanning for something I must have missed during installing and fix it, I will be able to select more different sounds, because that's what's missing; I can't choose any different sounds than a preset with a whole lot of voices and simple drum sounds.
When I open up the little list in ultrabeat I can only choose from 'Next Setting' to 'Delete Setting', it doesn't display any more options such as '2 step' and down. How come?
@Cyclone001315 Well, that 2 step one is a custom patch I made, but do you not have the folders like "Drum Kits" and "Drum Banks" below it? If not, it sounds like you installed the presets wrongly (or not at all). I can't remember exactly which disc you need (so long since I installed Logic), but look through your Logic discs and you should be able to install all the sounds/jampacks from one of them.
@jammyd33 I believe Logic Express has Ultrabeat, yes. Go to Logic Express on the Apple site, then look at the "Plugins and Sounds" tab, which tells you which synths Express 9 has.
you don't need to make different channels for different rates of the wobble. if you click on automation, click on volume control, scroll down to ES2, then LFOs, then LFO2 Rate and you can control the rate of your wobble without creating several channels. I find that much simpler anyway, you might not.
fantastic. i have watched all of your videos. thank you so much. i have a problem. everytime i load any of the drum kits in ultrabeat it says can't find DAT-dubstep kick1.aif can you help me?
Hi, the drums patterns appears horizontalyy for me m unable to proceed further... hw can I change the pattern to make it appear vertically so tat I can choose 11A#-1 ???? waiting for ur reply.... very informative video ;)
Not only is this very helpful, but its great to hear someone who knows what he's talking about! I only came here cause i've just got hold of ultrabeat on logic 9 and needed to get a hold of the basics and was very impressed with your wide musical thoery knowledge. Keep it up man!
cheers for the video. really well presented and helpful. one question though, would you advise doing each separate part of the drums on an ultrabeat of its own? i have this idea that it might give you more flexibility down the line to further mix the drums. thanks
@fleabags1971 You can achieve this by choosing the "Multiple Output" version of Ultrabeat. You can then assign different voices (i.e. drums) to different Aux channels. Then add those Aux channels in the mixer by pressing the little "+" button at the bottom of the Ultrabeat channel's fader.
Thanks, man! You're amazing! The best tutorial man out there by far. I've got a question though... I can make the bass on ES2 and I can make the beat on ultrabeat but how can I put it all together now?
if anyone is having trouble with placing the loop into the track try watching the Logic Pro Essentials Training Video it teaches you everything about logic and is very helpful and a great resource then you can come back to this vid
I just wanted to say thanks for these videos. You've been a big help in showing me my way around logic. I have plenty of musically creative ideas, the tricky part is getting them from my brain to my computer.
@SilentWeeks28 im having same props mate did you use the drag n drop sample settin in the ultrabeat setting ??? if ya no how to turn on please reply would be much apreiated ill do same if i find out cheers
ive got a question for you, you see I have this problem
that in all these tutorial movies (including yours) there are always
"logic's standard kits", but i haven't got any of these! For example this ghost town kit,
It really isnt there! When I go to presets, it says load preset save preset, that kind of stuff, maybe some stuff i put together myself but no logic presets! Would you know why i am missing these presets? And where I can find them? Thanks in advance!
there isn't any problem with getting logic through torrents, it just depends on what version you're torrenting. Most people go for the bare bones 7Gb file so they're missing a ton of presets and software instruments. Personally I went for the 50Gb studio version. Took way longer to download but it has everything.
You can right click where you change your velocity for the hits and choose random velocity too, also randomize the gate. It may be ctrl click or right click...
i'm very unexperienced as the following question will no doubt reveal: once i've made a pattern how do i transfer it into the project/ put it into the track? Any answers would be much appreciated, thanks.
Thanks, I have been looking for something like this for a while. I was wondering if it was possible to use the keyboard/ MIDI trigger in real time to put in the beats/ noises rather than the computer keyboard?
how do I create a loop of just that drum pattern and place it into the track? I understand the building process, however when I play the track it just goes on forever. How do I create a loop of the beat so I can place it into the track and not have to worry about when it ends in the song?
@enickgoku At the bottom right of the Ultrabeat window you will see the word "pattern". Directly to the right of that is a textured rectangular button. You can drag this into the arrange window onto the the track, and then mess with the MIDI file in the piano roll like any other MIDI region.
This is quite funny because it's exactly what @MissingAmongPeople was ranting about yesterday :D
far too many people don't put enough effort into it, in my opinion. this video is good but people want to learn everything from youtube "the easy way". i've been reading the comments and many people don't even know how to get the pattern into the arrange?
how lazy, stupid or serious are you? do something for yourself and people will want to help you more, nobody likes spoon-feeding people, show a little enthusiasm by reading the manual instead of just looking for an easy way.
Just before you programme the cymbals, you brought up a little menu, with every downbeat and upbeat on it? What did you press to bring that up? Thanks
@beep192 come on? you can't be serious? you want to be spoonfed every little detail? logic is a professional program and as such, requires a little effort to learn..
you right-click on the sequencer area of ultrabeat. now do you realise the silliness and utter laziness of such a question?
Hi, just before you programme the cymbals, you get up a little window menu with every upbeat and downbeat on it? What are you pressing to bring that up?
@sebrug Because if you switch Ultrabeat into "pattern mode" the different patterns you program can be triggered by playing that MIDI note - in other words, if you hit C or A#, the pattern associated with that note will play.
@wib333 right under the "swing" knob in the lower left corner, there's something that says "drag onto track" or something like that. Just drag that onto the track. If you're using different drumbeats throughout the song, be sure to power off the ultrabeat or you'll get overlapping drum tracks. Have fun!
@wib333 i figured it out. on the bottom left of the ultrabeat window, theres a button inbetween a drop down menu and the word "pattern", just drag that into the main view
@wib333 at the bottom left of the ultrabeat window you will see the word 'Pattern'... then to the right of it is a rectangle with [11(A#-1) sq] in it. all you have to do is drag the little button to the left of that to the arrangement window to include it into the track. also remember to turn ultrabeat off once you have done this otherwise ulrabeat will play aswell as the copied section when you hit the space bar (or the play button of your new to logic)
@wib333 Drag the little textured square next to the "pattern" dropdown in the very bottom left of the window. This will drag a MIDI file out into the arrange page. Don't forget to turn off Ultrabeat's sequencer, or the loop will be playing twice.
1) Turn on pattern mode (bottom middle of the Ultrabeat window) and trigger different patterns with MIDI notes. The pattern storage menu is very bottom left of Ultrabeat, a drop-down menu.
2) (My favourite) Use the little textured button next to the word "pattern", bottom left of Ultrabeat, to drag the pattern into the arrange view. From here you can make copies and edit them in the piano roll.
Hi mate, can i say, your tutorials are excellent man. you sound like a proper sound guy.
Ive recently made the switch to Logic, ive been producing music for a year or so now man. I opened up my ultrabeat and looked for the logic drum kits, but it was empty - i would really appreciate if you could tell me how to get them there.
Many thanks, and i hope to see more vids! Peace. Naj.

There's a couple of ways to do this:
1) Turn on pattern mode (bottom middle of the Ultrabeat window) and trigger different patterns with MIDI notes. The pattern storage menu is very bottom left of Ultrabeat, a drop-down menu.
2) (My favourite) Use the little textured button next to the word "pattern", bottom left of Ultrabeat, to drag the pattern into the arrange view. From here you can make copies and edit them in the piano roll.

Ive recently made the switch to Logic, ive been producing music for a year or so now man. I opened up my ultrabeat and looked for the logic drum kits, but it was empty - i would really appreciate if you could tell me how to get them there.
Many thanks, and i hope to see more vids! Peace. Naj.

Sounds to me like you didn't install the Logic extra content correctly. Try putting in your Logic install DVD and making sure all the content is checked on the installer.
