@Tubevalvemaniac BULLSHIT!!! OLD GEARS ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK WELL WITH TAPE!! NOT WITH YOUR REGULAR AUDIO INTERFACE. THESE PLUGINS ARE TOTALLY GREAT SO SHUT THE FUCK UP!!
Am I the only one who thinks it's funny we're A/Bing compressors on a squashed you tube video? I get the characteristics portion, but I'm missing the dynamic range either way.
This guy knows how to explain compression - i never seen someone that knows how to explain better then this guy - you are great - good energy - thanks for sharing your knowledge .
@Mysticalman68 Have you seen the inside of an LA-2A? There's virtually nothing inside that thing! They're not hard to build yourself, but then, it wouldn't have the label to bring up the price.
@composertimbeek thats true ... if you wanna buy especially hardwares of these plugins, but in this times there are a lot of hardware that costs not too much .... for example VLA by Art is great compressor for price ..
I really would like to see videos like this of him working on something more... interesting... from a musical perspective:/ I guess, though, if you're demonstrating compression, pop really is the easiest choice since EVERYTHING gets compressed w/i an inch of its life:P:)
Ive used all the compressor / limiters he is discussing. I use them religiously in plug in form and real form. I wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for these staples.
I'm not sure its that close to over compression. Plus you have to remember, he's working on a lot of modern and alternative rock these days, which just eats compression for breakfast.
He obviously overcompressed the room, but who doesnt? I love overcompressed room mics.
Also I have to say, whoever recorded those tracks did a stellar job at mic placement. For one room, it sounded awesome.
Its nice to see, but I personally dont care what others do. Others arent mixing my songs so my rule is to use my ears. I generally dont compress overheads, just sucks the life out of the drums. I do about 15 db of compression on the kick and snare tracks though, easy....
Same for bass and acoustic guitars, close to 20 db of compression on some A GTRs.

I didn't like CLA's plugin, like most of other compressor based plugins.
It can't compete with high-end hardware.
Still. it might work for younger engineers and musicians.
Hardware analogue rules and whenever possible I prefer to use it.

So this guy is sitting in the studio full with hardware comps and saying we should buy plug ins ?!?!?!?
This world is really getting strange ....

@MultiGodzila If actual 1176s and LA2s were cheap and easy to find, that would be totally strange, but how many people can afford the real thing?

It's very easy to mix something if the recording is already great, just compress the crap out everything with good compressors.

it's nice to see some of the settings, and where they're placed, like 1176s on overheads... interesting
