  • Can't help but feel that Novation is a company that quickly lost it's way....it really has been downhill ever since the supernova/nova series...and FFS don't get me started on that hunk of plastic Ultranova!

  • does this work with garageband?

  • i love how all of this can be done in software for free.

  • @Goldbloodeddragon But this is also a very cheap midi controller with a wealth of controls and decent (for a budget) keys, and sound card. Say what you like, it's still at least a bit better than using the A-L row of your laptop.

  • @Docipede No, I use a midi keyboard. This is a more expensive synth.

  • @Goldbloodeddragon there is a differnece between soft wear and hard wear

softwear is not nearly as tactile

hardwear you can have your hands moving and doing maipulations

i used softwear for yars and after getting my first synth i feel like the musicality is so much more

  • has this got a step-sequencer?

  • @V19torrent No it just has an arpeggiator

  • My portamento know isn't being responsive and the little screen says "No Control" whenever I twist it. Anybody know how to fix this?

  • Hi,please help me!! With which software i can open the patches of xio dowloaded by internet??

    Thnak you

  • it's so easy a caveman can do it

  • hi!

can you make (program) your own arpeggio presets on X-Station? If yes, then please explain how can I do this? Thanks ;)

  • which is better? xstation or roland sh 201? i am torn which to get

  • @lisamp7 I've got a Xstation and I love it! are you beggining on synth or are you experienced. Do you use Midi, softsynths, DAWs ect? Xstation is more versitle as it is a very detailed midi controller and an awsome synth, that serves as a USB audio I/O, However, if its just for the synth, and ur just beggining, sh 201 is made to be easy to use. I would say Xstation, but I dont have any hands on expenience with it. Questions?

  • I am just beginning, but I learn fast and i have people around me that can help me if i get stuck, so i am looking for the best for under 1000. I've been considering the xiosynth too, mainly cause of the gator it has, and being cheaper doesnt hurt either, but im pretty torn now between the xio and the x station. Really don't know which way to go. Being able to plug in vocals and get delay effects and such is a plus, does anyone know if you can do that with the xio? thanks!

  • If you're just looking at the synth aspect the xio is as good as the x-station, but also has a step sequencer, however, the xio does not have the amount of control that the x-station has, and if like me, and a lot of VA/A synth enthusiasts you like to constantly tweak the sound till you get it just right the x-station is the right way to go. the X-station also has a better set of conections on the back, and with regards to the case, novation to gig bags, ive got one for my x-station and it fine.

  • @lisamp7

I bought the SH201 about a year ago. It felt a bit cheap but sounded really cool! 'Supersaw' is the tits! And because it was all layed out in front of me my workflow was better.

But the X station had a synth as well as being an audio interface/ DAW controller and a had a superior feeling keyboard so I made the switch. I have regretted it ever since. The synth is much harder to find you way around and the mic pre amps sound cheap and rubbish...and 4get about novation's automap.

  • May I ask. Is there some James Bond in these different "samples" your playing??

    Did u play a 007 theme??

  • The Chord Progression of the 007 theme, yes.

  • :D :D

  • can i use this on reason some way? some 1 plz answa thanks!

  • You can use it to control knobs and sliders in Reason. Reason however can't record the audio made from the synth - you'd need to use Reason with Record to do that.

  • @mastgrr

You can record it with Reason, can't you?

I was about to get this or the Alesis Micron, and am totally stuck between the two. I use Reason and hope to record songs. Which would you recommend?

    Thanks

  • To control the synths and other things in Reason you need a keyboard controller. The main difference between a Synth and a controller is the synth actually has the sounds in it, a controller will control the sounds and other knobs, etc, in your Reason program. Reason doesnt record, though so you'll need a recording program like Record. A synth like this can also be used as a controller. This one also has an audio interface built in so you can use a mic and record into your computer with it.

  • Reason can record?

    I've made songs

  • Have you recorded audio into Reason like vocals or an acoustic instrument mic'd? I think Reason sequences midi data and plays it back via softsynths and effects.

  • what kind of music do you produce

  • yes

  • Are those filters at :57 to 1:11 built in to this thing or are they external software? And if its external software is it included and is it compatible with Logic/Mac?

    Thanks

  • He has lovely hands. Really strong looking...

  • how many sounds does it come wit

  • with 3 oscillators it is limited only by your imagination

  • the x station is a synth as well as a controller..! also can be used as your audio interface too..

it has amazing sounds..great peice of kit..!

  • is x station playable without a pc? plz help

  • yes you can use it without a pc.

  • my bad, didnt do my research.;)

  • yes!

  • Yes it is.

  • nope

  • can you use the knobs and sliders to control audio editing programs too?

  • that guys arm is hot.

  • The xstation is good to init yourself in the synths world and as controller, but if you have some more money spend it... It's too weak and the sounds of the oscillators are not very good...

    However, enjoy it!!

  • I use mine only as a controller for my soft synths and modular. In that capacity, it's only drawback is the 25 keys. Other than that, it's a dream to play. The sounds it makes are OK....but a Virus TI sits right next to it in my rig. GAME OVER.

  • game over is a massive understatement....GAME NULLIFIED

  • Hah....game SPAGHETTIFIED.

  • LOTSA SPAGHETTI !

  • You should see the carpet behind my keyboard stands. San Giorgio has threatened a lawsuit.

  • now i want to see you're carpet behind the keyboard stands......

  • can this be used with abelton and such programs??

  • yeah i run it with ableton!

  • The X Station is not only an awesome 300-voice synthesizer - it is a great MIDI controller for Ableton Live too. The faders and knobs and buttons are all CC "learn" assignable. Also has an awesome stereo audio interface with XLR and 1/4" jacks, AND digital effects. They are selling used for like $300.00 in some cases.

  • What's the preset at 0:43 ?

  • cheers m8

  • hi

fantastic synth, im after either this or the k station, which of the 2 is best to go for

  • X-station, I think.

  • Roland SH-201 or this??

  • An Sh-201 is almost certainly the more powerful synthesizer, it's VA capabilities are awesome.

What the Novation can do better is the fact that it covers a wider range of sounds and is a powerful MIDI controller as well - ideal for something like Reason.

  • who's better? x-station or xiosynth?

  • then please, show us how its done!

  • xiosynth or X-STATION who is better

  • x-station, I would also think about the older k-station.

  • The x station is savage great build quality the support is superb cannot reccomend it more the synth is great as well really good for trance techno .

  • K or X station??

  • is the 25 a good synth to make industrial music on? i own an alesis micron but its too clean sounding, how are the raw sounds on this?

  • x-station is a good midi keyboard :)

do not look at this bird whistle as on a synthesizer!))

    sorry for my bad english)

  • is this thing cheaper than a microkorg ? anyone

  • it is around the same price than a microkorg.

it has not the vocoder directly integrated but it has an audio interfaceand it can be use as a midi interface and controller.

if you want a cheaper version, you have the xiosynth

  • Nice IDM pad!

I'm seriously considering selling my microKORG (as it makes me look like a tool), and buying one of these!

  • Airchecks suck!

  • Can you play both keyboards without a computer? (I Remembered the question mark this time).

  • How well do both the X-station and the XioSynth play standard instrument sounds - piano, trumpet, violin, etc... - without effects added.

  • it comes with 200 presets, more than 300 additional patches are available on Novation website. more can be found in a Novation/X-Station Yahoo! group, and XioSynth patches seem to be compatible.

  • does this come with any beats??

  • No percussion patches, you can create your own from scratch but it's very, very basic, don't expect much.

  • does the xstation come with any preset sounds?

  • yes quite a few

  • so, what's the major difference between the xio synth and the x station? besides the shape and controls.

are the voices and patches all that different?

  • btw, good demo

  • Sound level sucks, next time have the volume of the keyboard louder than the clicking of the keys.

  • Bought one 2nd hand today.

Only experimented with teh synth, so-far sounds great!

  • is there a way to turn off the aftertouch if you just naturally play hard?

  • yup, there's an Aftertouch/Breath menu for each patch, containing 5 pages for the aftertouch. setting all of them to 0 would disable aftertouch for the current patch.

  • There's an aftertouch/breath menu (F2/AT-BR) for each patch, containing five aftertouch page (for various filters/mod settings). Setting these five pages to 0 disables aftertouch for the current patch. Velocity can also be altered with the last fader, as well as the velocity curve (globally, via the Template Common menu, first page starting from the bottom page, in synth mode).

  • sorry for the number of replies, i've just noticed that you can globally disable the aftertouch (in the "Template Common" menu). hope this helps.

  • Thanks! :)

  • I don't feel right

  • is it better than a roland sh-201??

  • Much better!

  • does that produce its own cound or do you have to hook it to a computer

  • it's a stand alone synthesizer and a midi controller for soft synth + audiocard. so answer is: yes! it sounds by itself. bye

  • And I have to add it sounds better than software.

  • @nevahard wow

  • I want an X-Station SOOO BADLY!! i hope i can get one this december :D

  • yea make more

  • make more videos about X-Station please :)
