Awesome! Thanks for cranking the Marshall and playing. Nice to see a video without all the incessant commentary that plagues some of the other postings. Cheers mate!
Hey!If you jumper the inputs the amp will get plenty dirty lower in the volume. it's the classic trick/secret to the 'holy Grail" Classic Marshall sound. To get the full power tube distortion, you will need an attenuator. The Power break is decent, though some say it robs high end. On a vintage type Marshall, that's not always bad. On mine I've used a Hotplate at our rehearsal space, as well as a Weber. The The Weber is IMHO the best choice.
I'am on an outlook for this model, but i've gotten an offer to buy an 2550 Jubilee Head, not that the jubilee model is bad but i really like the sound of this amp, i haven't owned an tube amp before but really want the classic sound like this one gives, should i go for the same amp or choose the jubilee? Both amps are good afterall but the Plexi is my dream , just wondered if the Jubilee is an better beginners amp and since u can switch from 25 watt to 50 when u like e.t.c, any advice? Good amp!
@Eddiemotor Yeah, if it's your first tube amp try something a little less than an actualy vintage amp. But why not try a reissue of a plexi? Something a bit more reasonable.
I don't know, but for me, when i listen to an vintage amp like this and an reissue, the vintage sounds naturaly more ''better'', i don't know, the reissues, regardless of most mods, just don't seem to cut it, but some feels very close, it depends on how you mean ''better'' ofcourse, but treat Vintage amps with care, they are more fragile than most reissue amps, play them, but with respect =)
They sound better because a lot of the components available in the 60's aren't available now or they don't come with original spec parts. I bought a JTM45 Mk.2 1962 reissue and they come with Sovtek 5881 power amp valves and chinese ECC83 preamps and a chinese made rectifier. They're cheap and they sound it. I wish Marshall would build them like they used to, but I guess its due to cost and everyone wants their amps cheap cheap cheap. I had all my valves changed to JJ's.
@lostlemming Yeah alot of stuff is made in china nowadays, even when you are suposed to get ''Made in USA/England-e.t.c'' ..
If i had to choose, that i want a new head, and want it to sound Exactly like the older ones but want the garrantee that it doesnt break when i crank it or anything, i don't care if it's gonna be expensive, if Marshall or an replica maker can replicate ''the sound'', i don't think the price should be an issue if they really can capture the sound. Check out Metropoulus :)
hey man, i looked up this power break and is there a knob or somthin' on it to control the volume? im trying to figure out whether or not to buy it. I have the same amp.
USE a powerbrake, i expolded a glass vase , on the first cord to VOODO CHILD SLIGHT RETURN , so now i use the powerbrake. The plexi 100 is loud on 2. These are amps made for stadiums , playing in your room can break windows and other glass items. But its so sweet.
What kind of cable is connected to the powerbrake to the cabinet ? I was using a regular guitar cable, and heard it could fry up. some one said to only use very heavy guage speaker wire for this connection.
@1952kid Yeah it wants to be a speaker cable into and out of the power brake. I've got a couple of marshall leads, which should be perfect. No doubt someone will tell me my leads cold kill my amp, or my amp could kill my powerbrake.... Nevermind I'll keep using them, cos they sound good. If they break, so be it. That's rock'n'roll!
@LewisGuitarMan both do different things EL34s have a thick body of sound like a sledge hammer hitting you in the face 6L6s have a sharp pinchy sound like a sharp knife rather 6CA7s are in between the 6L6s and EL34s and EL84s are the smaller brother of the 34s which are usually reserved for boutique amps fender and such and KT66s and 88s are usually thicker in bass than EL34s which is not good or bad although i cant make a full on judgement on them cause i havent spent enough time with them
I had the Hotplate for a month and after trying the Powerbrake i decided to sell the Hotplate...believe, both are good, but the PB sounds more transparent to me!
Anw, i get mine on Ebay! Marshall ended up with those...so you only can get one used (maybe on ebay). If you buy one, search on the Metroamp for the Ralle Mod...it will make the PB even better.

Great Amp. Just got myself a 1959hw. I better by me a soak because my ears cant handle anything over vol. 4, and the sound still stays clean??
I nomaly play with a treblebooster directly into a JTM45 wich is loud but this is beyond believe. (your powerbreak is on, right?)

The Power Brake is good if you can get it modded by Ralle at The metroamps forum!
But if you want a absolutely transparent
Attenuator you must try the
Aracom Power Rox PRX150-Pro attenuator!
The only one done RIGHT!
Its really awesome! Worth every $.
NASA build quality for just 649$ !
lidesnowi 2 years ago
Never heard about that Aracom.
It sounds interesting, but i'm with out cash at the moment
Can you tell me what is that mod? I could make it myselft...looks like i'm gonna make a little search about it.
5klash5 2 years ago
Go to the Metroamps forum and search for Ralle!
Greatest forum on the WEB if you are into TONE! Seriously!!!

I know that forum...i've searched some things about slash afd tone. thanks dude ;)

Have you tested that amp with the Hotplate Attenutator? I had one, but the Powerbrake sounds more transparent to me
5klash5 2 years ago
i've got the hotplate for my slp... like it a lot. makes that amp a garage amp or an arena amp!
jakefortwice 2 years ago
have you tried the PowerBrake yet?
5klash5 2 years ago
trying attenuators is not easy without buying. how much is the power break? 500? heard good things about it though...
