  • YES! YOU ARE LISTENING TO THE WOOD BROTHERS!

  • you must be smoking a lot of cigars...

  • Hey all. For a slightly different approach but a great bass sound check out my STOMP BOX BOOT as an alternative option...

  • I want to steal my wife Jewelry box and do this, I have an thought that older wood sounds better.

  • Everything I tried to build one failed, until I saw this video. Now I'm up and running, thanks to you, Fresh!

  • @65doyle Glad I could help!

  • Nice one. Well done.

  • Great, just ordered the same trigger !! Thanks.

  • @toremainn where did you find it...can´t find one :(

  • @svanurmg found it on eBay (ddrum Drum Triggers Red Shot Bass Drum Kick Trigger)

  • cigar box recycling wow that is one hell of an idea why i not think of that rofl

  • Snapping Awesome!!

  • Snap!!

  • nice peavy i got the same one

  • very helpful, well inspired to make one but I can't find those pick ups anywhere, what they really called? Bass drum trigger or something?

  • you must smoke a lot of cigars

  • I got this electronic drum kit, right after watching your movie i hooked a drum tru a multieffect device to my amp! Really amazing sounds, especially with lots of reverb, never thought about it before! Maby I should post a video about it and get 25.000 views! Keep it up!

  • Ah, you put the finish on AFTER fretting the fretboard? Hmmm. Makes it tough to sand.

  • hey yeah, thanks for this, i made one out of my paint box, have used it in recording and live it's so useful, i bought a behringer bass eq for it to get rid of the boxy mids, works a treat

  • 23000 views!!!!!

  • I KNOW, its crazy! I didn't think it was going to be my most viewed video. I've made some improvements to it...I should make another video

  • @freshprogression you seem to like scigar boxes haha

  • What kind of mic are you using?

I made a CB stomper recently using a 4ohm speaker instead of a contact mic (you can get these speakers out of any old stereo system) and wired it directly to a standard guitar cable. There's slightly more bass to the sound (I like your sound too though) but you can have loads of fun running them through FX pedals - especially delays or loops.

    Thanks for uploading dude

  • Thats neat as hell!

  • what kind of a mic is that?

i tried using a piezo and its not working real well. what am i doing wrong?

  • if you put something soft like really low quality thin carpet underneath then it stops it bouncing and can give a richer tone quality. I am just messing around with making one atm. :)

  • thanks. thanks for sharing. I think you could have rolled the bass on the amp and made it have a little more bottom for demo purposes.

  • sounds like a snare. lol. just put a regular mic in a small brief case

  • Bad ass man! Everyone I have ever seen only gets a really low bass sound. This one actually seems to have some punch! Does it get even more high end if you hit it with something tin or metal?

  • Thanks, I need to make another video of this stomp box. The sound really didn't come out like I wanted it to (I was in my Garage). But you can get a wide range of sounds out of it. I was thinking about making another one with a volume and tone control on it. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to post them. Thanks!

  • Inventive and effective as a last resort type thing to have on stand-by. But it sounds too weak and hollow to pass as something recordable or something that you could perform with. It's a pretty box though. Kudos.

  • Is that Wood Brothers playing in the background?

  • Yes it is...

  • just dont stomp to hard . that wood is thin and not the strongest in the world

  • If you're interested, you can hear my stomp box as backing percussion on the track "Stained Glass Windows" by The Dobson Units at:

    myspace(dot)com/thedobsonunits

  • I based my own stomp box on a few designs, including this one and glued/duct taped a piece of dense (about 5mm thick) carpet on the top of my stomp box (made out of a wooden gift box which had a metal shot glass, a metal flask and a bottle opener in it.. anyway, very similar to a cigar box)

  • Oh yeah, I had to cover the entire surface carpet with duct tape because the tiny fibres/hairs on the surface of the carpet sort of stuck to my foot just a little bit when I pulled my foot away from the surface of the stomp box after a good ol' thump. :) Anyhoo, the duct tape made an even and glossy surface which eliminated the "sucking" sound (life removing tape from a surface) after each hit.

  • correction: "LIKE removing tape from a surface", not "LIFE removing" :DD

  • what did u use as a pickup?thx

  • It's a Ddrum "Red Shot" drum trigger (pretty easy to get a hold of) :)

  • cool, but i already got a piezo

  • did the piezo do a good job? im thinking of going that way myself. i also saw a guy who used a pair of old stereo speakers

  • yeah not bad

  • be good hearing it in a track..that carpet ideas probably a good un.

    cool-nice work bro.

  • hey hollowbelly! yeah, I'm going to make a video of the box "in action" soon. How's it going? I'm a fan of your music...keep it up!

  • Awsome mate

  • yeah, I didn't add anything but the cigar box itself. All the electronics come with the drum trigger.....good idea on the carpet. I'm going to try that out. Thanks

  • That was very cool! Does the 1/4' jack come connected with the drum trigger (I don't know anything about drum mics :D). By the way, you might want to put just a bit of carpet on the surface to muffle the sharp tap and create a bass drum-ish sound.
