  • I haven't the faintest idea how this is supposed to sound. But I do know a heavenly voice when I hear it.

  • Go to listen to "le streghe di gabry ponte" he copy this music!!!!!!

  • J'ai déjà entendu meilleure interprétation du Lacrimosa, quand même.

  • @Sisyanor

  • Leontyne Price = Perfection

  • somehow this main melody reminds me of griegs solveig's song.

  • Feminist Pig

  • I always come back to this, to hear Verdi at his most sublime, and to hear Leontyne Price in her exquisite prime.

  • @lundilar I visit this regularly, too. It's such an incredible performance! What could be better?

  • HVK's cue at 4:08 is precisely why he is among the greatest conductors. Such a slight motion, but the orchestra knew precisely what he meant, to "drop" the sound in behind the soloists. Tremendous recording!

  • The mezzo's sound is so back and her diction horrible....the soprano is lovely though!

  • I wish that they would come out with a CD recording of this performance. The soloists are just perfect and I sense much emotionality in the reading. Price is in top form. I noticed that there is an old CD of this available that has poor sound quality. Pity.

Ms. Price is always fantastic. God bless her!!!!!!

  • My favorite Verdi Requiem; however, it needs Bjorling. The best interpretation and singing I've ever heard and I'm extremely picky!!

    xD

  • @untioguaydeoviedo è chiaramente identica, ma è voluto ?

  • @fenis07 penso che si

  • It's unbelievable that someone is talking about the teeth!

It's the music, just the music and only the music!

    And the music is excellent.

  • It's unbelievable that someone is talking about the the teeth!

It's the music, just the music and only the music!

  • Que la mezzo se mouche!!

  • I want to know how Miss Price had such lovely white teeth in those days! I am a dentist and this recording was long before tooth whitening was common and porcelain veneers were a long way off - especially in that shade! Fabulous!

  • Gives me goosebumps!! I really love Verdi's Requiem... one of my very favourites!

  • Ouch!!! I'm crying...Forgive us our sins God!!!Verdi and Karajan.......!!! Just DIVINE!

  • This is even more moving than the later one with Baltsa/Carreras.

  • pretty cool... a bit too overbearing with the camera angle on the conductor's hands.

  • Maestro Karajan!

  • I guess that would make sense, as this was filmed in Teatro alla Scala.

  • Un ajoya. TODOS maravillosos. Yo resaltaría a Fiorenza Cossotto.

  • this recording is just fabulous love it Lyontine is just wonderful love them all but My Lord she is just wonderful

  • thank you so much for posting this. it is simply the best

  • Once I sang this beautiful Requiem in the choir, but this recording is beyond heaven. Wonderful!!!

  • No doubt this is the best Verdi Requiem recording/performance ever. All-stars. The greatest singers and the best conductor there was. It's beyond divine.

  • And he makes no show off... at all. Everything he does is because it is necessary in pure service of the music. In service of the orchestra.

  • I absolutely LOVE him!!!! Oh what a soul! Waht an insight! what a totality

  • i think its funny how the women have the WHOLE thing memorized and the men need to use music. lol.

  • The video is not of the actual recording -- you can see that easily in the Confutatis, where they have inserted a sequence in the middle with Ghiaurov singing in front of something that looks like a clothesline where the choir is supposed to be. So the men here could quite easily have been filmed in an extra video session.

  • @AllThat77 true that!!

  • @AllThat77, maybe its because tenor and bass lines are more difficult to read than soprano and mezzo

  • @AllThat77

So, try to sing it... lot of soloist are using notes, because they more sing opera then sacral music. And Ghiaurov was excellent opera singer...

  • Then, you infer that male singers are idiots, isn'it?. Explanation is easy, even for male singers (or female writers). The ladies must have sang 50 times that part. The others did not. Pavarotti was almost beginning...

  • @AllThat77 But listen to the beauty and interpretation.

  • @AllThat77 Any idiot can do the Verdi Requiem from memory with some risk of misremembering a note or a cue. Far better to have the music and a flawless performance.

  • @AllThat77 Yah, well Karajan has all the parts memorized. He knows the cues for each section of the orchestra, and you can see him almost mouthing the words with the singers. He knows their notes, rhythms, and Latin lyrics. Karajan=Legend

  • @AllThat77 RIP to all the men in this video and well (Pavarotti, Karajan, and Ghiaurov)

  • Simply flawless...

  • agreed but total mastery in his last recording of the requim

  • wow, is that a young Pavarotti

  • the conducter is the top-selling classical music recording artist of all time, with record sales estimated at 200 million.

he died in 1989, so can someone please tell me when was this filmed

  • 1967

  • of course i know Price the soprano

  • ok i who r the bass, tenor, soprano, and mezzo, i think i know but not sure

  • s: Leontine Price; M: Fiorenza Cossotto; T: Luciano Pavarotti; B: Nicolai Ghiaurov

    Fantastico !!!!

  • This is absolutely fantastic.

  • who conducts and which orchestra plays?

  • This is the late, great Herbert von Karajan, one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century. The orchestra is probably the Berlin Philharmonic, but someone feel free to correct me because I don't know that for sure.

  • grazie, grazie, grazie!!!! l'ho ristrovata questa versione... mi mancava davvero.

  • The dazzling mezzo is Fiorenza Cossotto

  • Franc un gent toc... Jo pènso que Verdi sêt lo melyor....

  • la plus belle version bravo

  • bravi bravi bravi bravi braviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • la danza delle stregheeee
