Trop touchant ce lacrymosa, tout comme ceux de Mozart, Dvorak ou Salieri. Karajan est vraiment une légende pour nous faire revivre quasi parfaitement chaque mésure de ce merveilleux requiem de Verdi!
HVK's cue at 4:08 is precisely why he is among the greatest conductors. Such a slight motion, but the orchestra knew precisely what he meant, to "drop" the sound in behind the soloists. Tremendous recording!
I wish that they would come out with a CD recording of this performance. The soloists are just perfect and I sense much emotionality in the reading. Price is in top form. I noticed that there is an old CD of this available that has poor sound quality. Pity.
Ms. Price is always fantastic. God bless her!!!!!!
I want to know how Miss Price had such lovely white teeth in those days! I am a dentist and this recording was long before tooth whitening was common and porcelain veneers were a long way off - especially in that shade! Fabulous!
No doubt this is the best Verdi Requiem recording/performance ever. All-stars. The greatest singers and the best conductor there was. It's beyond divine.
The video is not of the actual recording -- you can see that easily in the Confutatis, where they have inserted a sequence in the middle with Ghiaurov singing in front of something that looks like a clothesline where the choir is supposed to be. So the men here could quite easily have been filmed in an extra video session.
@AllThat77 So, try to sing it... lot of soloist are using notes, because they more sing opera then sacral music. And Ghiaurov was excellent opera singer...
Then, you infer that male singers are idiots, isn'it?. Explanation is easy, even for male singers (or female writers). The ladies must have sang 50 times that part. The others did not. Pavarotti was almost beginning...
@AllThat77 Any idiot can do the Verdi Requiem from memory with some risk of misremembering a note or a cue. Far better to have the music and a flawless performance.
@AllThat77 Yah, well Karajan has all the parts memorized. He knows the cues for each section of the orchestra, and you can see him almost mouthing the words with the singers. He knows their notes, rhythms, and Latin lyrics. Karajan=Legend
This is the late, great Herbert von Karajan, one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century. The orchestra is probably the Berlin Philharmonic, but someone feel free to correct me because I don't know that for sure.
Existe uma versão melhor, o nome do video está como: "Verdi - Messa da Requiem - Lacrymosa Dies Illa.avi "

I haven't the faintest idea how this is supposed to sound. But I do know a heavenly voice when I hear it.

My favorite Verdi Requiem; however, it needs Bjorling. The best interpretation and singing I've ever heard and I'm extremely picky!!

It's the music, just the music and only the music!
And the music is excellent.
