I'm Asian and a filipino, most filipinos celebrate it more than and joyful than anyone who celebrates it in the world. Also Christmas is the day of birth of Christ under the Christian religion.

right because coca cola was invented in the late 1800's and people have been celebrating christmas for about 1000 years now.

Christmas is a celebration originating from the Roman Empire, were the many feasts held in December were clashed together to one big feast. The date was set because of the low amount of work in the agriculture, so that people could actually have the time to have a great feast, and also beacuase it is around solstice, and it used to be a feast to celebrate the coming of the sun. Because there were no place in the New Testament saying when Jesus was born, this day was chosen.

As for the name, Christmas originates from Scandinavia, were there already was a celebration in December called Yule. (Look Yule up in a dictionary, it's a synonym for Christmas) Christians later tried to rename the celebration into "kristmesse" (translate into: Christian mass). But we still call it Jul (originating from Yule) in Denmark at least, though we are also celebrating the birth of Jesus. So when you call it Christmastide we call it Juletid.
