  • Insanely fast played! He also hits quite a few wrong keys. If one can play it in that speed, it would be great.

  • THIS IS THE BEST VERSION. FUCK ALL OF YOU

  • Very good pianist, but for me the piece is too fast. When I think of a tempest, it builds up a bit slower and more thoughtfully.

  • süpersin abi ya

  • genius turkish.. great music

  • mistake at 03:54 but it makes the piece even more beautiful

  • Fantastic!! I just heard his Mozart's piano concerto when driving, and it was phenomenal! I came home and googled him, this is an interesting musician, and genius!

  • what a talented young man

  • Darüber hinaus, lieber Fazil.

  • Höchst persönlich Beethoven

  • articulation great, but very fast, unnecessary, Kempff's version much better, besides, he commits some bumps....

  • @nusretcc, dogru fazil, akp'nin elemani degil!

  • This has long been a favourite of mine, and I grew up with the faster interpretation so I dont see what all the fuss is about. I also play it the faster was myself - to me the concept of a Tempest is storms and rolling seas, so it should be powerful and dynamic. I find Kempff’s interpretation too romantic and “moonlight-esque”.

This is just my personal opinion, but I find it strange that so many people believe there is a “right” or “wrong” interpretation. INTERPRETATION. The clue’s in the word

  • It sounds like Glenn Gould's version (althought Gould is much better, imho).

  • this is exactly how it should be played imho....@randomtwat you're a massive gay shit

  • AlleGRETTO

  • I love this piece of music! Interesting style; personally I don't like it as much as other versions I've encountered but it's still brilliantly played.

  • Phenomenal pianist!!He plays in a very unique style!!His own style!!!As for Kempff,he is also a very good pianist with a completely diffirent temperament!!I don' t think that we have to compare them!!Every great pianist has something to say!!

  • Anyway: Tempest is storm, tempest is Beethoven. Kempf, Barenboim and others play this like romance. Richter is closer to Say but nor he expresses the very nature of the composition. ... I think so.

(I understand if people dislike the Say´s style - they simply prefer more classical and smooth music. Maybe 386 other prefer tension, emotion, and good show :)

  • Eahc to there own...this guy is my idol...who cares wht u think nmbanana...wht a shitty name!!!!!!

  • What a sense is there to hear 'a wrong note in 1:43'? what does it have with hearing the internal energy of music?? Can you only speak with people who have all perfect straight teeths? what a silly waste of time

  • WILHELM KEMPF rocks!!!! there is visionary poetry, here is the energy of a rocket, but indulging in pubertary 'I want more, more...!' weird immature like a child with beart. What said Beethoven? 'read 'the Tempest by Shakespeare' - it is not Star Wars!!.

Another great, superb performance is by Juan Jose Chuquisengo!

  • I don't

  • new interpretation ppl u should try to give it a shot

  • Comment removed

  • yep definitely hear the wrong note at 1:43

  • @ManiIsVideo I have listened to this several times, and I am unable to hear the wrong note which you mention. Apparently my ears and musicianship are not equal to yours. Would you be so kind as to tell us all exactly which note is wrong?

It's easy to get the score by downloading a MIDI file and opening it in a notation app., so I eagerly await your reply.

  • I'm sad that people call this horrible. It's surely different but one can catch the flow of melody and appreciate how this man turns it into something completely fresh and original.

  • @elifistanb I think he plays it very fast. I like the WIlhelm Kempff`s version much more.

  • no more comments to say....

  • 1:43 he wrongs a note: he plays MI instead a FA

  • @MrSerpico87 when, where?

Ascolta bene...

  • @MrSerpico87 yeah, i guess you're right...

  • @MrSerpico87 Look at you, you don't even know the right name of the note.

  • I prefer wilhelm kempff interpretation depending on my mood

Gracias.

  • What a disaster!! He is out of TEMPO...

  • Beethoven did not write for the typewriter.

  • It's not Bach Fazıl.Sorry but this is a little bit robotic.

  • He seems to be raping the piano . . . nevertheless, with much success!

  • he reminds me of a bobble head :) but he is an amazing pianist.

  • Great technique but too fast and with absolutely no feeling.

  • Fazil say jouer toujours aussi bien ! Super !

  • IT;s too fast.

  • white lang lang

  • @cisdolce lmao.

  • Actually Glenn Gloud plays this a lot fater. Fazil doesn't add the pedal. Maybe I prefer the "pedal tatse".

  • I can't possibly understand why he would do this. Too fast!! This is most certainly not Liszt, it's Beethoven...Kempff and Richter perform this piece properly. Beethoven put something magic in this piece, but this performance doesn't have that magical romanticism!

  • This video is most popular with:

    Male age 35-64

Being 15 and spending my weekend listening to stuff like this makes me feel kind of old.

Oh well. This is a brilliant performance and I honestly can't decide who I would rather listen to: Fazil Say or Wilhelm Kempff!

  • I wonder how long someone has to practice to play like Fazil?

  • W. Kempff almost fall asleep during the performance.. So weak!

As for me Fazil Say is much much better..

  • I am sorry but that was terrible..... Technique is just the way to comunicate an idea not the destiny itself, otherwise is just touch keys in the piano. No doubt he has alll the chops(hey is Fazil Say) but next time he wants to play this sonata in particular, he has to leave the piano for a while, listen and read.... and then try it again

  • Barbar!

  • Fazil Say will age like a good wino, as for all that body moment, if any one that commented about it knows anything about music and piano, if some don't move around and sit there like a brick-wall then one may get body tension and slowdown of playing.DOOOOOOOOOMeeeeeeeeee.

  • @1Zerotonine horowitz sat still "like a brick" and you don't see him with body tension and slow playing, now do you

  • like the way he shakes his head :)) hehe

  • Ok. Unless this guy is an idiot savant, there's no reason to by bobbing around like a parrot. Jesus that is annoying.

  • Tony Danza probably always gets asked if this is him playing the piano....

  • Flawless!

  • me too..I prefer this one, though Kempff is more famous, I think it is more passionate, and has a quicker tempo, more Beethovenian. Most versions on Youtube like the Kempff one is too romantic and slow, over-pedalled, although this movement has it's similarities with Für Elise, it should not be played like it...I like Say's style of rendition,

  • All pianists start quick then end up slowing down and maturing after a while .. compare Rubinstein etc ..

  • its better to listen to Barenboim, more soul

  • harika bir sanatçı.

  • Fazil is skilful but lacking in emotion. Also, It's Allegretto, not Allegro. But that's just my opinion.

  • Really horrible pearformance. Great technic but totally soulless!

  • great,I couldn't find ather word,,,

  • dont you know another pianist but wilheim kempf you people. expand your knowledge there are other pianists not just on youtube...kempff kempff kempff fuck him....

  • I don't like this preformance..... I prefer baremboim!

  • oh great another one that thinks playing it quick will make it better :/

  • Holy crap, its rocky on the piano.

  • I love this haha. This is how I play it. I actually kind of copied him...

  • This is wrong. Just plain wrong. He should listen to Richter, Kempf, or Barenboim, to maybe get an idea of what Beethoven was trying to express......

  • @Julienher I don't think he has to express the same feelings... He is himself... so he expresses himself through the music he makes... If he expressed something other than himself, it wouldn't have been genuine...

  • @Julienher

I absolutely agree with you! The guy is killing the essence of this piece, imho!

  • @Julienher ... Also you can listen Gould, and think about name ... "Tempest"

  • THis video much have mistakes.....

  • I prefer to wilhelm kempff because its perfect.... Wilhelm Kempff, cluadio arrau, elly ney, dame myra hess, horowitz plays this better and without mistakes..But Im really disaapointed with this video because its fast and more energetic and compared this with others.....

  • Love his sleeves :B

  • Beethoven's Tempest Sonata mvt. 3 -- Wilhelm Ke... KOOOOOOL!

  • Glenn Gould wannabe... >.<

  • by god this man is a human metronome, horrible horrible rendition

  • @nmbanana listen to glenn goulds rendition. Its the fastest and the best.

  • @fadethetrade Just because it's the fastest, does not mean it is the best. What if I played this song at 400% normal speed? Would you think it is the best?

  • @Th3R3M1nd3r sorry, but I agree with a concert pianist and a PHD musicologist who both agree that many beethoven sonatas are performed too slow by too many people because the music publishing companies somehow interpret beethovens works that way. This movement should not be performed Allegretto, this must be vivace..as well as Rondo cappriciossa and the moonlight first movement should be performed a bit faster then most interpret it.The walstein, appassionata, etc. Most pianists are incorrect!

  • @Th3R3M1nd3r Believe me,beethoven would have agreed. Most performances are a bit too slow.

  • @nmbanana I cant send you message lock for friends only, yes I like this one to, I play piano for long years and 1st leson was never get stif! and my teacher did told me that I was like a metronome but then he was wrong as I got older I put my own feeling in to what I played, I did use to play fugs in C by JSB like a computer would but that changed to his young give him time and I'm sure he will make you guys happy lol.

  • @1Zerotonine still and stiff are two different things, and keeping your torso still won't cause your arms to become stiff

  • @nmbanana

    you are absolutely correct!

This is broken and without feeling

    Robert

  • @nmbanana clearly you have no idea of "music"!

  • @nmbanana Coming from a person who probably listens to pop songs like Friday.

  • His piano face sometimes looks like rocky v.

  • A little fast for me personally, but geez guys it's still played brilliantly.

  • @Gunz42069 Beethoven usually set his tempo rather high,- and sometimes lower, - depending on his mood that day. Freedom of speed.

  • And wihtout any traces of classicism?

  • Like a modern high-speed train on the brink of losing control? Fortunately, it didn't.

  • 26 people don't think a Fazil should be able to use facial expressions while playing an instrument he spent his entire life MASTERING.

(Looks like pleasure depending on if you interpret his face as painful or an orgasm)

  • @TheSakeOfGod 27, now 28 people have a pair of functional ears and knowledge of much much better renditions

  • What's with all the criticism and ridicule? I thought this is actually VERY well played.

  • @mike11022

Everything for this song was great actually. What ruined it (in my opinion) was the speed he played it at. (not his funky moving around on the bench, that was actually entertaining)

  • It's the "tempest" sonata, you're not actually being tossed about on the bench by gale-force winds...

  • Okay playing, but this guy looks more like a rockstar who is having a merry time playing the drums or an electric keyboard. Odd, I need to see more of this guy's videos.

  • He plays this like he has to use the restroom.......... Like Crap....

  • @Atlantis2184

No, he looks like he's going to have a baby................

    SOMEONE CALL THE PARAMEDICS!!! XD

He played a bit too fast for this song once again. :(

  • @Prestothemusic lol,this guy plays everything fast

  • @harry781012

I've noticed that on his other videos. Frankly, it's not ok to speed up classical music. The songs are designed that if that they are speed up, they don't sound too great.

  • @Prestothemusic That is not true. Some pieces of music can sound good faster than the written tempo provided the pianist has the skill to keep that tempo and deliver a convincing interpretation.

  • @OriginalBasaliskos

Oops, I forgot that. That is definitely true. Beethoven played a lot of Baroque and Classical exercises way too fast for his teacher or peers, but actually sounded great to real musicians.

  • te hai qualche problema

  • Everybody wants to have a brain like this. Of course he is not retard. not at all.

  • He looks like he's mentally retarded, someone had to say

  • Over-the-top funny-looking eccentric musicians are the best..

I do prefer this at a slower tempo, but hey, he's the expert, not me.

  • I prefer kempffs version

  • Beethoven is well known for his romantizism and for communication great feelings through his music. I can detect these elements within here. ... Fazil is a great technician - but compared to other interpretations (like Wilhelm Kempff did) this one is more weak. Sry Fazil.

  • Don't you have some curtains to vacuum? We know you're the boss, but now's not the time to pursue a musical career.

  • well i really like the way he plays, but Wilhelm is sooo much better

  • amazing seemingly Italian taste or influence.

  • Impressive, talented and unique

  • He is amazing, and looks a bit like Sylvester Stallone.

  • @Edarjany looks like Stallone has just smashed the piano with tempest...

  • He looks like a douchebag but he is good at the piano.

  • Did he misread the Tempo text? Its AllegRETTO not Allegro vivace

  • I guess this was Tony Danza's fallback from acting.

  • I am proud of him, that we are both Türkish.

  • @Fischer34 Fazil sayin yavsak meselesi var, Bence cok talihsiz bir aciklama. bence hic soylenmemeliydi. benim nice muhendis arkadaslarim var arebesk dinleyen. bir kere arabesk dinlemek sence geri kafalilik midir ? bence boyle dusunmek ya geri kafalik yada sasirmisliktir. Fazil sayi kimse tanimiyordu simdi herkes piyanist fazil say diye biliyor. bence Reklam icin yapmis kendini bir tarafda yere vurdu bir tarafda ununu yukseltti.

  • @m3hm3tirl

  • @kolraob Sen Ben bile dinlesem iyi demis detikten artik banada soyleyecek birsey kalmaz. Belki su denebilir, seni isirmiyorsa sana ne elalemin begendigi muzikten, begendigi renkten, sevdigi kokudan, tutttugu partiten, begendigi yemekten vesaire uzar gider.

  • I love his approach to this song, the only thing i would change is when the music changes (after the repeat) he should have done something different, like mysterious and slower.. but this dudes so cool..no lie i feel the energy from this performance.. i wanna go sky diving

  • retard head

  • lol if he plays all the songs faster like this one, than his concerts last 15 minutes ;)

  • Fazil looks absolutely retarted when he's playing, but I love his emotions that he expresses when playing. Fazil>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wilhelm by a landslide. Love his work!!!

  • Harika caliyorsun Fazil abi. Bende piano ogreniyorum , seni ornek aliyorum, fakat 12 eylul de evet diyecem :)

  • @m3hm3tirl neden evet diyeceksin birader? Görmüyor musun adamlar yargiyi ele gecirip iyice kök saliyorlar memlekete...

  • @Fischer34 Birader secimlerde akp ye EVET demiyorum, Referandumda Evet diyorum. Adamlar seciliyorsa kim seciyor ? halk

  • @Fischer34 simdi demissin sunu bunu ele gecirecekler ordu birsey yapamiyacak. oyle sey mi olur. Ordu muzun darbe yapacagi bir ortam olussa kagitta ne yaziyor diye mi bakar sence. tabiki bakmaz yemisim anasayi der :) AKP nin korkulacak hic birseyi yok. CHP ve diger partiler size durmadan korku saliyorlar isin garibi avam takimi da bunu yiyor. adamlarin 8 senede yaptiklari isleri goz ardi edip bunlari boyle ocu gibi gormek cok gariptir. Yur disinda yasanlarin serefi bu adamlar sayesinde arrti.

  • FANTASTICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fazil Bey, sizinle gurur duyuyorum. Selamlar.

  • SLOW DOOWN!!!

  • sometimes i think "no feeling" is used to validate people's preferences for slower renditions. speed does not equal lack of feeling. watch the dude perform and tell me he has no feeling. beethoven sonatas have feeling written into them. nostalgia's cool, and genuine appreciation for past musicians over current musicians is also cool, but making statements like that could be taken as a sign of ignorance.

  • he is sooo goood..

  • Enjoy it, zum genießen ein Traum wunderbar,i love it.

  • Bitchin!

  • If one should compare Kempf and Say, they are two different worlds. Both reflect their personality in their performance. Say is an agile impresionist, whereas Kempf is a lyric poet.

  • no feelings

  • Not feeling....Wilhelm Kempff...he has very very feelin in his playing...he looks like a metronome...

  • he reached the acme of perfection as a Pianiste

  • parece q imita a GLenn GOuld

  • i like listening to both this and wilheim's one. U cant compare the sunrise and sunset can you now?

  • @mubeensgh you are truely right... sunRISE and the sunSET

  • magnifique!

  • iyi iş çıkardın...

  • you cant compare him with kempff

    but I also prefer this1

  • hes playing like he wrote the song

  • very modern way of playing. good job fazil!

  • i prefer kempff's interpretation only because i like the fact that he plays it at a slower tempo and i feel more emotion from him....fazil plays it well also but his playing style is a bit agressive to me...i did enjoy the stocatto sections of the piece for some reason lol

  • @kaaniarmani

aahah wat does that even mean

i doubt my mom knows it
