@42Kougar Gwen is honest about her influences, at the very least. Art is so often the practice of breeding influences into some form of mutt that is so far removed from what informed it, it becomes "original". I don't fault Gaga for her image or her borrowing. That said, her music is bad and she doesn't have a band like this. AT. ALL.
Dammit, I was born the year Spring Session M came out. I wish I could go back in time to this concert; I would own that crowd! You can't listen to this group and not hear obvious similarities with multiple bands that came after them. And of course we all know about the obvious rip-offs of Dale Bozzio's fashion and singing styles by some of our "pioneering" "artists" of today. Nope. These are the true pioneers ladies and gentlemen.
@rottenparts yes i wish you could too !! I saw this tour and it was great ! There was no internet, so i would not know what Terry Bozzio was up to for long periods of time until reading a Modern Drummer. Heck now you can find out what he had for breakfast...lol
So at least you have youtube and many options to see videos :) If i find a time machine on Ebay, I will gladly take you to the concert I went to :)
What an awesome band! Is it safe to say that Lady GaGa existed 30 years ago? We need to let the world know that she is not an original concept. Walking in LA, Dest Unkown, Words, girls can kick so much ass when they are real!!!! Not like the commercial crap we have nowadays.
I was learning Morse Code during the time I listened to this album, "Spring Session M". The name of the group, "Missing Persons" was on the album, in Morse. But they'd made an error, and in Morse the name came out "Missing Wersons". (p=dit-dah-dah-dit; w- dit-dah-dah.) Am I the only person to have caught this error?
I just recently discovered Missing Persons while trying to find out who Lady Gaga was ripping off and I must say, wow I think I'm in love. The drumming and guitar riffs are superb and the vocals...Dale is crazy beautiful! I love the lyrics to this song. Nobody walks in LA, everyone just drives around in their cars! Thanks for sharin this awesome vid! <333
not sure if this posted. the guitar is made from a VOX Wah pedal shell with a lot of onboard electronics added to it made by zappas guitar tech. you can really see it on the vid for 'i cant think about dancin'. the missing link was a guitar warrne invented. it is a double neck and can be seen in the vid for 'give'
Thanks for posting this! What guitar is Warren playing??? Looks like a Steinberger, but it has a "normal" headstock. Doesn't look like a Kramer Duke, either [that's also a headless neck.] Anyone got an idea?
I remember reading something about Warren "inventing"/designing a guitar he called "the missing link" in the 80s.. I have no idea, but it might be that one..
it is a custom built one made out of partially a shell of a VOX WAH pedal....with LOTS of electronics added to it. there is a much better view of a white one in the vid for 'i can't think about dancin' the missing link mentioned below was a double neck you can see in the video for 'give'
@kittenluve68 very correct, in fact its a business, and in other countries they are still huge, so Warren toured and toured with them...NOW he is retired with them and making his own music to what he wants. And believe me what he is doing now is unreal !! and extremely zappa'ish
I think if I am correct what you are saying is with missing persons talent was held back. When I was younger and listening to UK live with bozzio, then from that a HUGE transition to Missing persons it threw me off. In those days without internet like today, it was hard to keep up with what someone was doing. Anyway I was thrown off, until I really listened to missing persons and took the time to hear the BRILLIANCE of taking rock and punk and new wave and mixing it together.
@italianman2112 Simplicity is just as difficult as complexity. Technically, perhaps not - but in a creative sense, I'd argue that these guys did a fantastic job a.) restraining what they CAN do and b.) writing songs where everyone's parts are bang on. Listen to "Right On" and listen to the counterpoint between the bass and Warren's skunked guitar riff. I eat, breathe and shit jazz, but I'm the first to chime in and tell you this is genius pop music.
Lady Gaga gargul is crap. She tried to steal Missing Persons Dale, Gaga is a rip off like most artists today. Cant catch the 80s. Name a 2009 artist who hasent ripped off another artist????
In Dale's day no one wore clear pink hair and clear plastic better. Lady gaga is a better singer and misusing who writes songs. Dale and Gaga are both Italian American girls. Sadly Dale was recently kicked out of her home for back rent, and was arrested early in May for Animal abuse. She left town and her 12 cats, supposedly in the care of a friend, who did not care of them apparently? A few died. Ohoops.
So sad, but not Sad Enough for YOU to pass-up on the opportunity to make yourself appear to be an informed person; is that right, ford-prop-stewardess-1999 ?
Tell us your internet source; I want to check it. I remember hearing about the cats. Every Single source, were All of the Trash-Gossip type. As all things go with news sources, especially Trash-Gossip; they'll put thier own Spin on it which often includes a lie or two or...
Does anyone know what happened with their love story? I think someone should spill the beans and it should be made into a film... at least they someone should write a biography/autobiography of this time, very compelling and I can't find much online about it :(
hey wega, The best I can do is back in like 88?? its late right now cant remember...I was in Chicago at one of his first clinics..He was bummed about the band and divorce..He had not played his drums for sometime cause he thought he would write and do a Phil Collins thing. I remember him saying its better to beat these drums than someones face...ouch !!! he said it in a soft sad way..not really boldly..Also when the reunion came up..he left early stating " I had to leave the weirdness "
Love the little yelp that Dale does after the first line of chorus. A real awesome singer Somehow missed this band in 80s butobviously big in U.S. Thanks for this clip
awesome '80s :) except for the camera guy right out on stage at the beginning, how terrible to watch them perform with a camera guy all up in her business
Thanks for sharing! Missing Persons will always be one of my favorite bands for the innovative way they fused rock and new wave and for just being so fucking awesome!!!!
I love how they combine Hard Rock with New Wave/New Romantic synth tones! Every member is talented, especially Terry Bozio on the drums. It is cool how he is currently drumming for Korn.
They reformed in July, 2001 for 3 shows only...I was lucky enough to be at the Fourth of July show under the Arch in St. Louis...it was UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Dale's vocals were as pure and strong as ever...and she was still totally hot! ;) They completely rocked the St. Louis Riverfront! :)
I've been watching all these live performances by Missing Persons. It brings back memories when I saw them live in the early 80s in San Francisco. I really wish Dale and Terry would make peace so that they can do a reunion tour.
Yes that would be nice...I remember a while ago they tried to get things going and it fell apart and on terry's webpage he said the weirdness started up again so he had to bolt and was very sad cause he loved that band...I believe the rehearsals are on youtube that originally came from warrens sight.
I am trying to sell my band on making this one of our VERY rare covers. Sure, we will "modernize" it a tab, but perfection in songwriting is perfection in song writing. Sounds are fatter now, change "record" to "Cd" in the lyrics, but yeah - I have to do this song.
oh don't even worry about it..i was just curious..being a canadian and growing up in the 80's, I had always wanted to see MISSING PERSONS live..never got the chance, sadly..so any live in concert stuff is beyond precious and interesting to me..
I was very lucky...I live in WI and the concert was going to be at a place called the palms..it over sold out and had to be the next night at a place called the eagles club wich is now the rave...I was able to go on that night and saw an awesome concert..terry bozzio was unreal :)
which concert was it..one for their very first album...or second? I am happy to know that you got to see them live, happy yet TOTALLY JEALOUS..lol...I am sure it was really good...
Yeah it was the first ..actually their first release was a mini album and the second was spring session M which was their first full album...and that was the concert I saw..it was great..I remember I had a really bad cold and I was so pumped the next day it was gone.
Drummer is Terry Bozzio - started with Zappa in '75 until '79. Met Dale at a rehearsal(she was a zappahead) and they started dating. After Bozzio left zappa / UK and sessions with the Brecker Brothers they formed MP. They broke up in the late 80's - she still uses his last name. I agree, bozzio rocks, you should check him out on YouTube - he does solo pieces with a 48 piece drumset. Insane.
exatly right eskimo :) and yes he is STILL insane on the drums and for just about 60 years old he looks great and stays in shape..you know how depressing it is to see rockers fat when they are older
This drummer is very good!!!

I always thought they must of had a very strong relationship and interesting life experience starting when they played for Frank.
It looks to me that they threw away their record contract to inform us of the Truth, found in their albums, especially the 2nd and 3rd one.
The Truth we're all learning about these days, and a lil' late, too.

I was very lucky...I live in WI and the concert was going to be at a place called the palms..it over sold out and had to be the next night at a place called the eagles club wich is now the rave...I was able to go on that night and saw an awesome concert..terry bozzio was unreal :)
italianman2112 3 years ago
which concert was it..one for their very first album...or second?
