  • Excellent. Thanks

  • Quite a ridiculous method. If you want to learn these chords, simply take the time to learn the major and minor scales. THEN, these chords are simple the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes of those scales.

  • @56dlp . Everyone's entitled to their opinion. These videos have helped many beginners get to grips with learning chords. Why don't you make a couple of videos if you want to help

  • Excellent!

  • I like your way of teaching :) Thanks for your uploads!!!

  • You count every black and white note after the root note.

  • You count every black and white note after the root note.

  • You count every black and white note. If you watch my fingers you can see me counting the black notes

  • You count every black and white note. If you watch my fingers you can see me counting the black notes

  • root +4+3 at the (3) you don't count the black notes only the white's Right

  • WOW! never new that!! Thx a lot, more pleeeeze

  • Well, plexus008, sometimes the truth hurts. It's not attitude, it's calling it like i see it.

  • This is fantastic! Thank you so much! Helped me heaps :-D Keep it up!

  • This video does not teach the beginner that chords are based upon intervals of their respective major/minor scales. This instructor is trying to teach a "short cut" method that has no theoretical value to it. I would never recommend this method to anyone. Learn your C major scale and it's root/third/fifth components, transpose into all 12 keys, and you will not only learn to play these triads, but how they are constructed. Forget all this counting to 7, up 4, up 3 crap. This method sucks!

  • @tmg1968 . I bet you're a music teacher or someone who paid lots of money for long-winded, expensive music lessons. This guy is simple trying to make it easier for the amateur who wants to play a few tunes as quickly as possible. If they want loads of music theory they'll go see a music teacher. Hopefully not someone with your attitude.

  • You Sir Just Helped me Allot Thanks Very Much .

  • i play guitar and i use the same system... this is VERY helpful...

i find it way more pedagogical then any form of by heart learning. for basics at least ( i dont frown upon theory)

  • nice work fula...

  • very good i realy liked

  • thanx I appreciate the tips a lot :-)

  • Thanks. This is very useful information.

  • My friend gave me their old keyboard for free, since they were just gonna throw it away... and I feel like I'm already learning so much from watching this. I used to play the trumpet and violin in High school.. been about 6 years since I picked up an instrument... n_n; Thank you sir!! Good voice, very clear unlike some other tutorials.

  • thx i like your way, very easy way. ;)

  • I'm a 72 year old (Yorkshire) guitar / mandolin / ukulele / harmonica player of many years experience, and I have never come across this 'formula' before - it works on all the above instruments. I am now learning to play some melodica (mostly 'by ear') - and this is very useful for me when working out the chord shapes to accompany the melody. Thank you very much. I will look for more of your lessons.

  • All these years, my music teachers have been full of shit!

  • Comment removed

  • holy shit dude!!

  • I printed out your guide and it's marvelous how simple it is, very well done.

  • It's the inversions that drive me crazy. It's like doing hard gymnastics with your mind.

  • Thank you good sir! Really good stuff.Just was wondering can you apply this on guitar and if how?Thank you once again.Respect :)

  • @mmkengur I'm no guitar player but it shouldn't be too difficult. Just find the root note to each chord and count the steps up the strings as you would when playing a scale.

  • Most videos on youtube do not help at all. This one actually does :) thank you!

  • Thanks, I'll give it a try, I've been playing guitar for like 35 years & now working on learning the piano.

  • LEGEND !!

  • I recognized the same thing but without the numbers I recognized the shape of the chords and some guitar chords that sound good on piano and have never taken lessons, this video just helped me understand what I'm subconsciously doing when i play on my keyboard without knowing what i'm doing xD

  • Awesome video. Very much respect.

Does anyone else think this chap's voice sounds like the husband in "When the wind blows?"

    (No offence intended.)

  • @Breadfan222 None taken but I don't know you you are talking about.

  • Excellent Formula !.thank you very much.got to think in a new way.

  • Thank you!! Please check out my attempt on keyboard! Why didn't I discover this before?

  • omg How did you figure that out?

  • @iSpeakKonglish . It simply jumped out at me.

  • @maurellis You're a genius! Thank you so much for sharing your video =)

  • @maurellis You're brilliant because the same thing jumped out at me but I've never considered making a video to show people because I just assumed it was common knowledge for some reason. There's another quick way to learn chords. Maybe I should share that.

  • @Popadibs Hi. Thanks for your comments. Please try to make a video to show your system. Anything we can do to help people - especially those who cannot afford lessons - would always be gratefully received. If you don't have video facilities, such as a camera phone, simply reply to comments with your ideas. Good luck to you.

  • @maurellis Even though I already happened to have known this thank you for at least taking the time to help us either learn or get better at the piano. Thank you for also acknowledging your subscribers existence and for treating us with politeness. I have much respect for you.

  • Way to simplify things for those of us who can't afford lessons. Thanks.

  • i am confused very, but i nigerian

  • Thanks, very helpful.

  • thank you for posting this! it helps! but my question is, how about the base note (the left hand)?

  • @marby. Chords are nearly always played with the left hand

  • You should do voice work

  • @thecooltactition81 . I wouldn't know how to go about it.

  • Very clear and informative video, perfect for a beginner like me. Thanks ever so much for posting this.

  • genius, this helped a lot , thanks !

  • thankyou so much man this was very helpful

  • My God, man, your voice is magical.

  • This is brilliant! I...I'm just so thankful for you putting this up!

  • this absoulutely amazing now its so simple to play major minor and seventh chords

    TRULY BRILLIANT!

  • to me, the fastest way is to learn one pattern, discern the other patterns from there, then memorize them! You should be able to memorize them through 'imaging' (the way they look.) Next, learn to play a song that uses a triad of chords, then, transpose it to all keys. i bet you, you'll learn the chords in a jiffy.

this one's free consultation to all watching. :) In a month, i taught kids to be independent and to have and apply the idea of transposing in order to accompany.

  • its so confusing -_- i need to learn!

  • Thank alto man, for teaching other

  • Thank you sooooo much :)

  • ds lesson is clear ,n simple ..thanks

  • Yes. It's a PSR-295

  • That's a Yamaha, isn't it?

  • Can we count like this in the stage

    Instant knowledge VERY IMPORTANT!

  • @Adsamgideon . I don't understand your question

  • how can anyone dislike this video is super informative! basically i know all the chords using his formula and im pretty new to the piano this really has helped me alot thank you so much

  • Thank you for this. It is the clearest of instruction.

  • im just gonna use some diffrent colours stickers on the white keys. In time it will not be a problem anymore. Im making it as easy as possible for myself so I get more out of my time behind the keys.

  • thankyou very much for that!!

i'm a total beginner and memorizing the chords positions had taken me to a bore! but i'll practice more though..

one question: is it normal if my pinky finger on my left hand hurts after playing a few chords?? 'cause i'm afraid if it might get broken or something... lol

    nice voice btw! =))

  • this seems a lot more complex than by just memorizing the chords.

  • uncle

can i ask you for a favor?

because i want to learn the organ chords A to G-minor/major chords,

can you help me for this plsss ...........

  • Thanks for that video! I am a beginner trying to learn and this is exactly what I needed to know. And your booklet is superb!!!

  • ...but....dominant 7th.....but.... major 7th? but... 4+3+4.

  • thank you very much sir

  • wow this dude has an amazing voice

  • FANTASTIC!!! Thankyou !!!!

  • As explained in the video there are formulas for scales. Have you downloaded the booklet? It is also explained there.

  • Hello Maurellis, I visited your site and downloaded some very useful things, your formula is something that a friend who plays piano told me and I came to youtube to find tutorials to follow along with and found you saying the same thing. It makes perfect sense now, easy stuff however I have a feeling that there is more in the woodwork than just the 4+3/3+4 style formula, what is bugging me at the moment is if there is a formula for scales? Thanks for all the help, keep it up!!!

  • thanks this sure makes sense to me I play guitar I for years I just bought a piano this a a HUGE help with this and basic triads im on my way!

  • Great video.

  • haha your accent is incredible. Wish we could talk and play music brother. peace

  • thanks to generous talented people like you for giving your time and effort for others! great tips thank you!

  • Never heard it explained this way. Solid work man, just solid!

  • very helpful thanks sososoososososososososososososossosos much

  • I'm learning keyboard and this method is Awesome!

  • You are the man!!!

  • very very good video:D

ive been playing for a few years but never really thought about a formula

    keep on making good videos

  • your so confusing!!! im a BEGINNER..... i cant read notes..... thats kinda what i thought ud help with...

  • @MissMeggieJ Thats the easy part. I figured that out my first day. There are patterns of 2 and 3 black keys on the piano. The note directly to the left of the 2 black keys is a C note. Then the white keys go up in order like CDEFGABC. The black ones are the sharps of the note to the left of it. They are also the flat of the note to the right of it. So the black key directly in front of the C note would be a C# said C sharp

  • Wow, coming from a guitar player, this is very interesting. Never heard it explained this way. Very easy to follow. Thank You !!

  • @sms8668 . There are many videos on Youtube on learning to read music and plenty of sites with free music reading lessons. Do a search.

  • thanks for the lesson I CAN PLAY ALL SONG NOW but quite question why Major 7th is root +4+3+3 but is actually ROOT+4+3+4 C major 7 is C+4+3+4 AND C7 IS C+4+3+3 SO WHAT IS THIS MAJOR STAND FOR

  • @soroto01

    Dominant 7th = Root + 4+3+3. Dominant seventh construction is based on these notes of the scale.: 1 – 3 – 5 – b7

    Major 7th.= Root +4+3+4. Major seventh constructionis based on these notes of the scale.: 1 – 3 – 5 – 7

  • great tip! thanks

  • was hoping you mite do a DVD :) Great tutorial

  • @deanbedford . I'm thinking about it.

  • @maurellis dont think about it ,just do it !!! your teaching is so simple you are brilliant. thank you for your time.

  • Your better then the rest. Good tutorial

  • this is great, makes learning chords 10x easier especially if your new to it all

  • this is pretty interesting..i like learning this way..if i need to find a chord I look at the keyboard, count and then i know. And my mind makes the effort to remember cos i would hate to keep counting.Im a beginner and i play some music thru remembering too cos i hate to look at music scores.thanks!!
