  • try to set the hook by pulling the line

  • That looks fun! Its easier to land fish with wooly buggers though.

  • nice catch!!! i love fly fishing even when i just catch some small fish, a few weeks ago i caught my first good size bass on a fly, it was a 16 inch, 3 pound large mouth

  • hey! i love your videos and i'm jealous you're catching smallies all i have down here in Florida are Large mouths and Snakeheads :( i had a big bass on my fly rod it slammed my fly i don't know what type of fly it was it was green and looked like a big fluffy catapillar but wasnt a wooly bugger fly... need some help finding out what it was! it was a gift... by the way the bass snappen my line :(

  • The reason some people prefer fly fishing to conventional methods is the challenge. Just like some people prefer sailing to motor boating, the challenge. A stinkpot motor boat is easy to just point and go but sailing means using your brains. Same with fly fishing. You have to know how to spot the right place's to fish, also you make it look real, unlike baiting a hook and sitting there waiting for something to come along and eat it. Depends how much challenge you want. Like checkers or chess.

  • hehehehehe....yes! sir!

  • What bait are you using?

  • Gotta love that one moment whrn your lure dissapears and you feel that line go tight

  • Great action there! keep em comin

  • what kind of fly should you use for small mouth bass?

  • Your getting so many bites but they aren't staying on. Just wondering, should i invest in fly fishing because it looks fun and i heard it gets more results than normal rod fishing.

  • @AImosTskater44 The key to any fishing is that you having fun doing it. Fly fishing is not meant to replace other types of fishing, just another way to fish. I encourage to find someone that is willing to help and share some fly fishing knowledge with you. Once you hook your first fish on the long rod, you'll be hooked. This day I missed a few fish, but I'm having a blast doing it :) It's called fishing for reason and not catching :) Take care and tight lines!

  • @mnflyfishing oh thanks man my dad is going to help teach me and I am very excited. Can't wait to get out there! :)

  • @AImosTskater44 i was thinking the same thing then i baught a cheap one at walmart and im gonna start saving for a more expensive one its alot of fun catchin largemouth bass and 6 oz bluegill is amazing you should invest

  • He he he he he YES SIR!!!!

  • gotta l ve fly fishing

  • I have always fly fished for trout and would like to get into fly fishing for smallies. It doesnt seem as hard with all that room for casting and not needing to read pockets and currents as much like on a small trout stream. Any advice on how to get started?

  • I want to fish. Fuck ice

  • Wow great fish i love smallies. i am just getting into fly fishing this year because at my hometown we have the schuykill river and it is way underfished so there is plenty of nice smallmouth action. The reason i am getting into fly fishing is i have noticed in the spring that there are tanlike flies that are flying around and when they hit the water the bass destroy them so i am going to give fly fishing a try to see if i can fool some smallies this year in the spring.

  • @LandThatFish Yep, your right on. A 8wt line has more weight to help carry bigger flies. Poppers have a lot of wind resistance, so a heavier weight fly line (like an 8wt) will make poppers easier to cast. Of course you need to match the line weight with the correct rod weight (8wt line for a 8wt fly rod).

    Tightlines!

  • what kind of fly line are you using? and is the leader line wighted?

  • @hangbulavard I was using floating line for the popper, 9' leader. For the underwater fly I was using sink tip (first 7' of the fly line is clear and sinks with the rest of the line being floating). And a 3'' leader attached to this.

  • how many pounds is your leader

  • @flyfisher4life1 A lot of smallmouth rivers where I live have a stained color to them. I like to use 10, 12, 15 pound tippet, depending on the weight of the fly so it turns over correctly. Delicate presentations is for trout not smallmouth! Flouro for subsurface flies and regular mono for top water. Tight lines!

  • how do you make it pop

  • @flyfisher4life1 Some flies are designed to create more pop then others. Flat or cup faced poppers make good noise and move some water. I use a quick strip, plus a small twitch of the rod tip to make a hard chug. If you have slack in the line, then it's not going to pop very hard or loud, so make sure the slack is out of the line when you strip.

  • What kind of reel you used on the Predator??? I"ve got an 8wt predator and my Vosseler reel is overbalance the rod..... Its so annoying.

  • @RetardWarrior It's a Redington Rise 7/8.

  • Awesome! where do you guys launch? I've been meaning to get down there. I have a kayak though so I fly up and down the river. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • @BensBold54 Check out the Minnesota Canoe Route Map for the St. Louis River, multiple access points to the river. The entire river has a lot of bass. A kayak is a perfect way to explore and fish the river. Good luck!

  • any help what does it mean when ur hook breaks from the the liter my not is good and some times my hook randomly breaks

  • nice fish :p

  • ok, this is what i dont get, how does that thick ass line can fish on a popper? how does that fit the iron u shape on the popper? is it specially made for fly fishing lines? and wouldnt the bass be afraid also? the line is like, WHOA, its THICK.. wouldnt they had seen it?

  • @43405555 At the end of the thick colored fly line you would tie on a piece of mono line (same clear line used in conventional fishing spinning reels) from 3' to 10' long. Then attach your fly to that. In fly fishing this section is called the "leader" as others referenced in other posts. Good question!

  • @43405555 got a question also. is that leader also called the "tippet" because I watched other vids on here that says that mono line is different because it becomes smaller at the end where you tie the fly to; but other vids they said to 'tie' the lines together from thickess to thin like 6x-4x-2x something like that. I don't get this. I bought a beginners pack and the line already came 'thick to thin'(no knots), i'm really confused. btw, every fly fishing rods shud have drag system right?

  • How long was your leader that you were using?

  • @ViolistXK 3-4 feet on the subsurface flies, but also was using intermediate clear sink tip line (the first 7' of fly line is clear and sinks, i believe it's called streamer tip by RIO). For top water I had a 7' leader with floating line, 1 to turn the big popper over and 2 to get the fly to turn over quicker for shooting under the trees. Tight lines!

  • i"ve been fishing science i was 3, and i've never had time to learn a fly fishing like i have learned casting like normal, would you say fly fishing is funer then like, a open bell, or pushbuton?

  • @halo5549 - Personally, most of my fishing is done with the fly rod. Not that it's any better or worse then spin fishing. It's just that I enjoy it more then other types of fishing. Fly fishing really comes down to the individual person, some will think it's more fun then other forms of fishing and some people won't like it at all. Get out and try it and just have fun with it while you learn.

  • @halo5549 i personally think fly fishing is more fun cause you have more"feel" if you know what i mean. fly fishing is more like an art.. at least thats how i think about it

  • Hey, I'm new to fly fishing and I'm trying to order some wooly buggers. I have a 9 FT 7 weight rod and reel outfit and I was wondering what size hooks I need. I want a size that i can use both on Trout and Largemouth Bass.. Thanks in advance.

  • @WINNIETHEGUINEAPIG I use size 8's mainly for trout and size 4 for bass. Good all around sizes. Can't go wrong with a Black BH Wooly bugger!

  • their is a house in new Orleans. . .

  • Don't ever get involved in a link swap deal with these arseholes, they are dishonest as hell.

  • awesome video, man.

  • Fished that stretch many times. I cant believe how many people fish smallmouth on the river now. Back in the day you rarely saw anybody fishing for bass. Now many of those spawning areas get hit over and over everyday.

  • @howell55812 Yeah your right. I'm trying to get a trophy regulation in place for the St. Louis River. I put a lot of time on the river, but only hit the community areas, these let me know how others areas are fishing. There are lots spawning areas that I have never seen anyone fishing, some where there are a steady stream of boats going right by, funny to see. The river has so many hidden features, that's why I love fishing it.

  • How many fish are you going to miss Set the hook you freaking me out man!!!! LOL NEVER pull a fish into your boat with your fly rod Ive seen dozens of tips break like that.

  • oh btw i subscribed

  • thats fantastic good fishing. I agree with lolrobin the second smallie was an absolute tank great fishing keep it up

  • Thats awesome, man. Well done. Smallies are my favorite species on the fly. It's a shame you didn't hook-up with those first few. It seemed like you did everything right as far as the hook set goes....

  • Where on the river were you guys approximately?

  • That second fish was a true lunker! What rod weight where you using on that Predator?

  • 8wt Redington Predator. Makes a great topwater rod.

  • Awesome!!! Just got my first smallie in Hawaii out of all places. Smallmouths are a very feisty bunch to say the least. I can only imagine the fight with those pigs. Can't wait to catch smallies as big as those. Thanks for sharing!

  • ottimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
