In which case may I put in a plea for Sir Humphrey Davy, who registered his patent in 1806, some 70 odd years before Edison! Also Joseph Swann who received a British patent for his light bulb in 1878, a year before Edison. Both gentlemen were English, of course.
Edison is a businessman hired 100s of inventors and claimed their inventions as his own including the light buld which is NOT and edison invention
Tesla is one of his hired INVENTORS who believed AC is the future of power generation

Edison just bought the patent of them.
