Those that bitch about using trees for art just aren't seeing the big picture. Most carvers use wood from recycled sources- i.e. tree service companies.

Each year tens of thousands of trees from tree service companies end up in the landfill. Most mills wont accept "yard trees."

So what's better, letting trees rot in the dump and take up landfill space, or doing something cool with them?

If I was starting out, I'd make a big block of foam (that canned Stuff foam) and practice! If you mad a mistake, fill in with more foam and wait till it cures!
