hi friends i m giving all of u online classes for new students or old students on skype if anyone want to learn tar shehnai esraj dilruba so plz add me on skype my id is arshadisrajplayer
I know the sarangi is supposed to have the best sound, but I really love the dilruba and esraj. I think most people would not be able to tell the difference between the three if given a blind test. No dishonor meant towards the sarangi, it is a beautiful instrument, I just think the dilruba and esraj deserve equal reverence.
@MrJuggalouk Yeah, I've been experimenting, a bit. I just got a Mandolin, and I'll soon be getting a fiddle and taking lessons. But, all of these East Indian and Turkish instruments, are just so incredible.
have a look on my profile , another guitarist, Mahamad Hadi aka Mad Sheer Khan ( guitarist of Nico from the band of "velvet Undergound" ) have a fascination of Dilruba and since 10-15 years , he plays dilruba like Hendrix played guitar ! it's amazing . I saw a concert in europe .
Higher amplitude? That just means "louder"! The sarangi is missing the warmth and especially the drone resonant strings of the dilruba. I think these alone make the dilruba one of the most amazing sounds on the planet - and these youtube recordings do not do it justice!
Actually a sarangi has many more sympathetic strings than a Dilruba, hence the huge cluster of tuning pegs along the side of it. You ever see a sarangi from the back view? Crazy how they are constructed to hold so many strings. Sarangi also uses gut strings instead of metal strings which is huge difference in sound, sarangi much more comparable sound to a cello or violin for that reason.
i would diagree when you say that it is not as moving as the sarangi - the esraj is very very moving. your own prefernce is sarangi but mine would be the esraj - it all comes down to how you play the instument
No but its the same instrument, and they also used a Sitar on that. I want a Dilruba and a Sitar so bad... what is the difference between a dilruba and an esraj?
Good question.. I could never really understand either. From what I know the dilruba has a wider neck and larger rectangular body and its sympathetic strings attach down through the neck like a sitar, whereas the esraj has a smaller pear-shaped body and the sympathetic strings attach directly to their tuning pegs. Other than that, is there any difference?
Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj gave his Sikh's permission to scale down the taus, which he made with his own hands, because the taus was to hard to carry on horse back.
thanks. but because i have not learnt this instrument ever so dont know the basics of practicing. can you explain the meaning of keeping my hand out.Thanks.

Beautifully played. The sound of this instrument is incredible.
I play guitar, but I'd love one of these purely because of the soul and compassion that goes into playing this and the beautiful sound.

to say that it is not as moving as the sarangi is correct. Quite litterally the Sarangi creats acoustic waves of higher amplitude.
But it is just as fantastic and wonderfull.

yes the dilruba is more of a cello or an indian gu zheng where as the dilruba is like 99% a sitar with a bow.
koolandy 3 years ago
I really fail to see how the dilruba is anything like a guzheng. The guzheng is more of a zither instrument.
vertigo001 3 years ago
The esraj is supposed to also be a bit more quiet than the dilruba...which is why they created the tar shehnai for it.
vertigo001 3 years ago
no it just close at the begining...lol he probably doesn't even know it
